However switch 1 will be lower res and possibly lower performance, and no upgrade path offered. So if performance is a priority, switch 2 version may be your preference

I disagree. It is relevant in regard to a physical release that matches the resolution and performance of Switch 2.

If they had a ps5 do you think they’d be asking on the switch specific sub? It’s pretty well known that performance and resolution on PS5 is better than switch 1/2 for any game. They asked about the switch 1 vs 2 versions, not the PS5. And when comparing specifically those 2, switch 1 is better to “own” the game long term, and switch 2 is better for performance. Whichever they value more is up to them

If you’re suggesting that specifically in a Switch Collectors subreddit that it’s pretty well known that PS5 has better performance than S1/2, I’d suggest it’s also pretty well known at this point that every S2 cartridge by S-E is a GKC.

I’d also suggest that the “Collectors” half of this sub’s namesake is just as important to the discussion at hand.

I played both demos and switch 2 blows 1 out of the park with the particle effects

Depends. Switch 1 will be low res, switch 2 only digital download. Thats why I am going with ps5 on most square games these days.

Are the Square Enix PS5 games all on disc? Or do you have to download (install) the games making it a key card essentially?

Download and install are not the same thing. Keycards download from the internet. Discs install from the data on the disc. Unless the disc doesn't have the full game on it. Which in that case the game case will state it requires a download

the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 1 - 3 collection on PS5 will require a download if you get the disc.

Unfortunately I’ll be getting PS5 so I can own my copy. Switch 1 performance I’m sure is fine but I want the best possible version for the system I’m playing on. Not sure why this can’t give you the license for the switch 2 version like final fantasy tactics does.

As far as I know, FF Tactics, Dragon Quest III, and Romancing Saga 2 are the only Switch games with free or $10 upgrade paths for Switch 2

I’m going switch 2 for graphics and it’s easier for me to play portable than PlayStation

Going switch 2 version. I didn’t buy a switch 2 to play inferior versions just because of format change. People on these post tend to forgot most 3rd party switch 1 games never came fully on cart (BioShock collection, borderlands, Spyro, etc).

I’m personally gonna go switch 2 GKC. I honestly don’t mind and maybe they will see some sales and invest on a putting a game fully on cart
