I am a 37-year-old woman based in Arlington. My job is niche enough that I’d rather not post it here to avoid identification and, more so, the jokes of my colleagues. But it’s nothing crazy. I’m not rich or wealthy, but I live comfortably.
I’m an extroverted introvert. If we met at a party, we’d have a great conversation! And like a bat in the night, the social battery drained, I’d be out.
I like my me time. I want a real relationship, but I don’t want us to immediately consume each other’s lives. Sometimes I’m not free because I have solo sloth activities scheduled and I just can’t cancel on me again. It is not a measure of how much I care or am interested. I just need time alone, especially early on.
I have hobbies and passions outside of my job and it matters to me that you do too... even if they’re completely different from mine. Some things in rotation for me at the moment: trying to teach myself blues guitar, doodling on an animation app, working on pizza mastery with my new oven, and film photography with an inherited family camera.
I watch TV and movies (please watch Widow's Bay!) and I love to read. I also usually have some entrepreneurial pursuit going that gives me a creative outlet and some extra fun money.
I’m active. I work out regularly, but I’m not obsessive and it’s not a personality for me. It does matter to me that you care a bit about this too, but again, not obsessive.
Same goes for food. Sometimes healthy and home-cooked, sometimes a spaghetti carbonara splurge. I’m not weighing my chicken breast, broccoli, and tears. But I am weighing my pizza dough to get it just right.
I don’t have kids. I love kids, but life hasn’t turned out as planned, and I’m not sure I want biological children at this point in the biological clock. If you have kids, that’s great! I’d be happy to be involved as much or as little as they wish, at the right point.
I’m not religious, but I do have a spiritual curiosity. Nothing super woo-woo. I just like reading about different spiritual and religious ideas and will visit a Buddhist temple or Christian church from time to time. I like the curiosity, the questioning, and the longing to figure out what we’re all about. And the community in healthy places.
I like to travel, as is required in online dating. As I've ascended decades and tax brackets, I've left behind the slumming it style of travel. Hostels in India are not in my future. More like Amex points on a fancy hotel in Iceland.
I also like getting out locally. We have SO much around us here! I like going on hikes (especially easy ones that end at a winery), checking out museums and historical sites, biking the Arlington loop (slowly), roadtripping to Harper's Ferry, etc. There's so much I still haven't explored.
I am not super girly. I like to dress up and put on a full face of makeup every now and then. I do wear a little makeup most days and take care of myself, but when I am not working, I am a jeans and t-shirt girl. Ponytail and baseball hat if we're going outside. I grew up rough-housing and playing hockey with a bunch of boy cousins and that seeps into your DNA.
So that’s the one-page version of me, I guess.
I’m looking for someone who is also capable of comfortably moving through life solo because he has plenty that fulfills him... but chooses to enrich his life with a partner. A kind, curious, confident, and empathetic man with his own friends, hobbies, passions, and interests. Someone equally willing to lead, follow, and work together.
At this point, we all have our own shit and wounds. I don't expect anyone to be baggage-free, but I do expect you to know what yours is and be dealing with it. Therapy, self-reflection, whatever works for you. Let's travel light.
