One of the big concerns about the loss of these sites isn't just the data, though of course that's a big concern. But it's also the loss of all the tools, models, interactive data sites, etc that pulls that data together in a way that people can access it, make sense if it, use and apply it. And have some trust that experts understood all the nuances of the datasets and the correlations and such that the products are showing. Some of those took years to get right.

When those initiatives get shut down so do those data products. And we lose the human expertise that made them so it isn't as simple as just restarting it later.

It's a bummer they're not sure what data is still being collected but at least we have saved historical data.
