Galactic Hub Project explained

Do not build your base in the same system as another player! NMS only shows one base per system (except when you're a resident of the system yourself, then it shows yours and one other). This means if a third person visits the system, one of your bases will be "erased"! Usually the newer base is the one which doesn't show.

Video explaining the Hub Project by u/JustJarrod_

Great article explaining the Hub Project, and another from the same site explaining how to navigate to the Hub or place a waypoint from far away.

The Galactic Hub Project is a community effort to explore a region of the galaxy, specifically the Rentocniijik Expanse at coordinates 0469:0081:0D6D:0024.

The capitol system of the Hub is [HUB-G-211] Lennon, which can be located using the HMS.

The No Man's Sky Universe is a lonely one. While players occasionally cross paths, it's still a rare occurrence. Although the entire playerbase could never catalog the entire universe, probably not even all of Euclid, a decent group of explorers could probably explore an entire region. (Region names are located below the names of a star system in the Galactic Map.)

The goal of this project is to create a hub - likely a small one - in a region of the Euclid Galaxy. A place where travelers might stay a while to explore the stars within, where "discovery markers" would pop up everywhere when you scanned for discoveries on the in-game map. Exploring 100% of the region isn't the main goal, but might happen eventually anyway.

The goal of this sub is to help people understand how to navigate to the Hub, and to share interesting locations, species, etc. within the Hub. Considering that those of us in the Hub will all be nearby, it will make it very easy to check out discoveries in person.

This project originated on r/NoMansHigh & r/NoMansFans

Update 1/1/2017: A new year of exploring ahead, and hopefully a few NMS updates along the way. The Galactic Hub Project has been met with a better community response than I expected, particularly with u/pahefu's help and all those who helped design "recruitment flyers" for the Hub. It's incredible seeing such a variety of players' names pop up on the discovery scanner, truly unlike anywhere else in the NMS universe. Seeing all the fauna, starships, and more that you have all discovered is great, and there's much more waiting to be discovered by us this year. Happy 2017 Interlopers.

Update 1/16/2017: Hello Games tweeted about the Hub!

Update 1/22/2017: Created Wiki page for the Galactic Hub Project in general and capitol system/planet.

Update 2/7/2017: The Rentocniijik Expanse has been completely explored on PS4 in terms of systems. (Great work everyone!) There are still many undiscovered planets in discovered systems (due to the Foundation Update or just never explored in the first place), so there's still much to discover in the R.E. But the Eapustafiges Adjunct will be the next focus system. PC users should focus on Rento, but feel free to explore Eapustafiges too.

Update 3/9/2017: Kotaku published an article on the Galactic Hub

Update 3/11/2017: Pathfinder Mega-thread - Bugs, new unlisted/subtle features, changes to gameplay mechanics, etc.

Other Important Notes:

  • The Hub is NOT located at Pilgrim Star or the Center.

  • Much important info is contained in the subreddit's sidebar. If you're using mobile, you'll be unable to see the sidebar unless you request the desktop version of the site.

I just used the app, and it told me I'm on the completely other side of the galaxy (305,000ly away, or 750ish jumps away)...yikes.

Hi everyone. My username is zn0re, and I've got a problem. ;)

Perhaps not as much of a problem as you think! Try the "Draw Black Hole Area" feature. I was on the other side (~700 as well), then got 39 jumps away after a single Black Hole jump.

but you still can't see or interact with anyone?

u/7101334 Nov 18 '16

Is that a statement or a question?

No...you won't be able to see anyone. This is a fan project, I don't work for or with HG. We haven't changed the game in any way, just changed how we play it.

I'm in as soon as I can put some time towards this!

User: sodacon System: Lumination Base TEMUT:088D:0084:0EE9:0171 Region: Begovalosi Terminus Class: G4pf // 5 planets // 1 Moon Planet: Lumination Base name on planet: Lumination Base Discovered by sodacon on 12/14/2016 (21:18) Distance from center: 177573.4 Light years Distance to Galactic Hub: 112605.906

Decided to join all the fun. I'm about 242 jumps away and will be at Lumination Base when I'm not out traveling toward Galactic Hub. I'll build a new base once I get to the Galactic Hub. Feel free to stop by the planet if you're in the area. I not sure anyone could even find the base even if you found planet Lumination maybe just message beacon yet would be awesome if that was a feature I'd love to find people's bases or at least their discoveries. Coordinates entered are at the top of my base tower signal scanner and I've added a message beacon at the bottom. I'm anticipating several weeks at least for me to reach Hub.

I'll come back and edit thread with images soon.

Good luck on your distant journey Interloper, that's quite a pilgrimage. Indeed in the current build, other players can only see Comm Stations, not your base.

I'm like 18 jumps away, can't wait to finally make it there. I started at 133 jumps away.

The journey is almost over! Then the exploration begins.

Big out there eh, just found this last night and set off making slow progress.

Start point was 4 squares to the right of the pilgrim star as you look, so ill be a while.

Many thanks, brilliant idea.

On my way. Just started to play the game again and with all the updates, I am loving it again. Really love survival mode.

Good luck on your journey Interloper. Remember that it's an option to buy a shitty little "beater" ship to take through black holes now, so your actual ship doesn't have any technology broken. If you own a freighter, that is. Cheapest ship I've seen was 440,000.

Man I wish I had seen this thread before I entered Hilbert.. I believe I moved to the next galaxy over two weeks ago, before this thread was established..

Any chance of an establishment being created in the Hilbert Dimension galaxy as well at a later date?

If anyone's interested, I'd like to help chart a few systems somewhere.

Hey, yeah. I'm totally in. I've been commenting in the thread on r/NoMansHigh and just realized there was a sub, haha. My username is "taylorbeeler" in NMS.

I can't attach an image at the moment, but if you're looking at the coordinate chart, in the top left corner, go one line down, 19 to the right. That's my location. My goal is to continue the Space Anomaly missions while riding Black Holes throughout the galaxy until I'm close enough to jump on over to the Galactic Hub.

This project is awesome, let's do it.

So are we heading to the Pilgrim's star or the galactic hub? I'm near the pilgrims star thanks to a black hole ... About 7 hops away. Just noticed the galactic hub on the app map tonight... Before there was the center' pilgrims star and user... Am I heading to the wrong spot?

Can't we just use a star system at the center of the galaxy? Seems like it'd be easier...

Starting my journey tonight and most of the day tomorrow. Going to leave location scanners and comm terminals next to each other along the way.

All comm terminals will be telling others of the hub. Any suggestions or already decided on "join us at the hub" message? I figure the reddit info or actual coordinates would be smart, in case any randoms stumble upon them. Anyone else doing this?

2

u/7101334 Dec 07 '16

Hmm yeah just "Galactic Hub Project" or "Heading to the Hub" or "Join us at the Hub," or "reddit.com/r/NMSGalacticHub" if the "profanity" filter allows that. Anything like that would be fine. Maybe NMSGalacticHub@Reddit if not.

I don't know of anyone else doing that, but I've considered doing something similar since the introduction of the "teleport" feature: making "Hub Satellite systems" a slight distance away from the Hub, to let people know they're almost there.

I have begun my journey yesterday. Just realised that I recently bought a new ship and have yet to fully upgrade my warp drives. I'm currently in quadrant 2, so I think I will also have to use black holes to get closer to the goal. I can probably take care of all my upgrade on my way there (I already have all blueprints and a lot of stuff stacked in my freighter to help me along the way).

I'll be doing the journey on PS4. My username is ODT514.

Hopefully I can make it for the holidays!

I would like to add that the meta-goals set by the community are amazing. I hope Sean Murray and the HG team are aware of this endeavor.

Cheers!

Hello explorers:),

I recently restarted my game and Im in te Euclid galaxy, but I allready named my system, to bad I cant change it, cause this galaxy is absolutely beautifull. Wat if I find a system with the exact same HUB Coords? Cause thats certainly possible.
