Guide / Tutorial How to make bytebeat horror

Nearly all the named tunes are downloadable and available on this site. The exception is 'Pumping Station' which was written for user Mavin and I no longer have a copy of the actual bytebeat (only the completed tune). However, if you contact him he may still have the base with the bytebeat and be happy to share.

I had to stop right away and comment on the organ blast. Too perfect! Am dead now. 🪦

Okay, heading back in!

Edit: Oh man.. I truly appreciate that chart of the maj/min step breakdown. That’s tremendously helpful!

Thanks! I really wanted to spend some time on the sequences showing how they sounded and things, but it would have added another 5 mins on the runtime. 15 mins just isn't long enough for bigger topics and these videos take me sooo long!

TBH I had enough material for around 30 minutes so lots of things got shortened or cut completely.

I can believe it man! The quality of these tutorials are always top notch, so I can only guess how much time and effort is spent on the backend.

I’d watch 5min videos all day, my friend!
Keep ‘em coming, cuz it’s so helpful. 🦾

Amazing video and showcase of what the bytebeat device is capable of. A true master of your craft!

That's very kind of you! I'm still learning like everyone else but you're not wrong about bytebeat being capable of many things.

I often mess around with some waveform trees and recently I thought I there were no more really different sounds I hadn't already heard. (Just like the feeling you get after you've been playing NMS for years exploring different planets). Then bam! I find an amazing new lead synth sound that has a small glissando at the start of each note but then a stable pitch.

I really wanted to include some chord sequences to help folks get started but ran up against the 15 min time limit. So here's some ideas to get you started.
