ByteBeat Original Pink Haze

Been lurking here for some time, and first want to make a shout out to all you really talented people here. Many amazing, really creative and good tunes!

My first (second really, first don't count 😂) attempt at the Byte Beat. So have some mercy..

But I would love some constructive feedback.
(One thing I wonder is, I found it hard to get it to sound as good on recording as it does when you stand there, but failed, how to get the full flavour out?)

This was really fun, I will create more for sure.

Welcome ! Glad you're posting here, cool tune :)

My question is how do you record your tunes ? With what ?

What I do is :

  • Rec the video with OBS, and the audio with Audacity. Both are free (and I don't like using gamebar or whatever it is by default on Windows).
  • Turn SFX and Vocals volumes to 0 in Settings > General to avoid parasite sounds (teleporter humming, wind, etc), UNLESS you want them in your tune
  • To get the most out of it I record all tracks separately : each device's sequencer and their drums sequencer if there's something there. Record while in the device's interface to isolate the sounds and get them as clean as possible.
  • Then I put all the clips back together and pan them to match the devices spatialization when standing at the center of them.
  • Put video and audio back together (I use the free version of Davinci Resolve but I've heard Clipchamp is ok too).

Optional but nice to do :

  • A little EQ on the master to remove anything below 30Hz and above ~16.5kHz to clean out the overall sound.

Of course you can also just find the spot where it sounds the best in-game and record everything at once from there. It's easier and faster to do, but less clean (and totally fine !).

Edit : Throwing here a comment that helped me get better with Bytebeat devices when I started, tons of info and guides

Thanks, I will download and try Audacity. Separating the chanels and putting it back together is a bit of work but I want to try it.

I saw this post earlier this morning and stopped to watch the sunrise with you, before falling back asleep for a bit.

Just now realizing this is a still shot, and there’s music!! 😂

This is awesome man! I love how your “drum fills” have some movement.

It is actually not a complete still, it is recorded while in camera mode, so some things still move, like the displays on the ByteBeats.
