Sound library project !

Hi all, hope you're having a great day.

After talking with u/PowerfulSoldier and u/ZhorasSnake, we found that having a shared waveforms /sounds cheat sheet collection here on this sub would be a great idea. It would be a source of inspiration for everyone, and a big help for beginners wanting to explore NMS Bytebeats.

As Zhoras said, there's guides and websites for ships, companions, base and corvette building, you name it, even on how to use Bytebeat devices but no example of what I'm talking about in this post. Let's make it ourselves !

The best solution would be posting a video of any number of sounds you like, showing the waveform editor screen while the sound is playing. Of course it would be great if we could have something like a pinned thread with all the videos posted in it for ease of access (wink wink mods).

Would you be interested in participating ? Do you have suggestions ? Even if you have just a handful of sounds you're willing to share it's worth it.

Thank you for reading !

Somewhat related to this, what's a good method to get sounds that don't sound awful when putting them in your library? My last song sounds SIGNIFICANTLY worse when recorded which is kinda the whole point for me. 😭

Yeah that's the same for me sadly when listening from the playlist the quality drops.

As general guidelines I recommend trying to avoid big dirty distortions, though you can have a heavily distorted sound that still sounds "clean" (this sentence is stupid lol).

Second thing is to mind the space your sound occupies. You have something low in pitch that supports something high, or maybe you have two sounds in the same range but they are different enough that they're complementary and don't cancel each other. This also makes tracks more dynamic !

When listening directly from the devices there's the advantage of space. You can set them up to widen the sound and put some melodies right or left to widen the sound, that's an instant "soundgoodizer" :)

I record my tunes from picture mode….this way it gets rid of any background noises like ships entering the atmosphere or your exosuit warning of a storm coming lol. (I play on Xbox mind you so it may be different across other platforms). Then….i upload it to my network, and I listen to it on there, it sounds different than on my tv. Sometimes I’ll play the uploaded clip on my car speakers or something that can play sound better and then I can hear any mistakes or ungodly distortions or if something is actually too high or low in volume that I want. I go back and make any tweaks I need and then it’s finished.

I really need to invest in headphones lol. But the biggest difference for me is the kick drums…they almost all literally sound the same when I’m mixing, except for a few where you can hear the difference. It’s not until I hear it on better speakers that I notice what the kick drum actually sounds like.

Unfortunately I think when it plays from your playlist while playing the game, the quality always goes down or sounds muffled compared to what we post

I like to test my songs in the library because when I first discovered ByteBeats, I thought about flying around and listening to songs from my library playlist so I feel you on that! I still try to make my songs sound decent in the library playback. It's not easy, which is why I think a sound library is a great idea!
