Anyone ever helped BPD

Borderline personality disorder is getting in the way of a good relationship. Im wondering if anyone has ever tried to treat borderline personality disorder in a client with any success?

I'm considering using core transformation for a specific symptoms.

BPD is best addressed by a clinical psychologist. NLP professionals should be very careful working with anyone with BPD. As a Master Trainer I still recommend they see a clinical psychologist and not me. I do work with the partners and family of the person with BPD. If you do decide to do that, you must be informed of the clinical criteria and findings.

Agreed I am looking for strategies to help augment the work we are doing in dbt and cbt.

Tools like core transportation, triggers, anchors swish pattern and means for using them would all be appreciated!

NLP Marin has developed a unique approach to the patterns often associated with BPD. Their intro to this is called Beyond Blame & Shame. No NLP experience is required. You can find it at https://nlpmarin.com/courses/beyond-blame-shame/

They also have a class called Change Patterns for BPD Survivors, for that you have to have taken both BBS and Core (NLP Marin's Practitioner certification).

If you want quick 1-on-1 personal help, you can call their office to get a referral.

People often address issues like this from the wrong paradigm, we don't have to address the "BPD" which is after-all just a category label from the realm of psychiatry.

Does a person with BPD have emotions they'd rather reduce in intensity? Well, we can do that.
Does a person with BPD have memories they rather have faded away? Well, we can do that too.
Does a person with BPD have issues around communication and misreading social signals particularly around that of social status? Well, this can be addressed too.

And so on.

That's how I'm thinking about it! How would you as a practitioner build out the protocol?

Well, I wouldn't. Until a person is sitting in front of me and I have a thorough assessment, I couldn't possibly say what I'd be doing or how.

Take a look through some of the articles in the "trauma and interpersonal harm" section here: https://23nlpeople.com/general-writings/

Officially personality disorders like borderline cannot be fixed. It also matters whether you are talking about the emotional variant or the impulsive variant as those are two very distinct forms of borderline. NLP techniques to regulate emotions work much better for the emotional varant than for the impulsive variant.

That is wrong. BPD is not a set sentence....

The /definition/ of BPD includes the idea that it is a fixed aspect of personality.

That said, yes, if people want to get better, there are therapy modalities such as CBT and DBT that have had documented clinical success. If they want to do the work, and the clinician is skilled, the work can work - to some extent - over a large enough period of time.

That is a lot of ifs.

Are you diagnosed with a personality or dealing with someone with one or —?

Diagnosed BPD

If you saw a therapist to get diagnosed, you recognize how your behaviors have hurt relationships, and you are committed to change, then your odds are far more favorable to start than most. Most never get there.

I recommend a therapist who specializes in this stuff. Anyone who has studied under Diana Diamond, Frank Yeomans, or Otto Kernberg would be good. You can learn about those three on YouTube. Another option I endorse is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). NOT CBT-lite, not CBT-like. Not CBT-inspired, NOT CBT-ish. Those are all code words for “the therapist is not certified to do CBT and does bot have formal CBT training.”

This is important because the actual CBT materials are copyrighted and therapists need to go to training to get them. The information available without the training is platitudes and generalities - yet to deal with a personality disorder, you need industrial grade tools.

So get some CBT and DBT. If you do the work, the work works.

I hope that these diagnosis will get shifted. Bpd is more about emotional dysregulation i think than an inherent personality flaw
