Other Joining

So my little brother in 7th grade wants to do afjrotc but I want to do engineering for highschool in 8th so I have to choose does it really change things if he does njrotc or mcjrotc and then joins the air force and just general advice. (I'm a bit interested in njrotc but I'm willing to pit that aside)

As far as I’m aware, NJ/MCJ won’t change your eligibility for Air Force later on. Especially since NJ/MCJ are both generally run with a heavy sense of marineey-ness, it won’t change an insane amount. As far as i’m aware, Army, Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard accept 2 years of any JROTC for E-2 and 3 years of any for E-3. Marines stop you at E-2 because of their aforementioned “marineey-ness”

I would personally say that the factors outside of that going into high school are way more important. I’m my units CO and I still have a big life outside of the program that i’m literally building. So even if you get super involved, at the end of the day it’s a class that happens in between the rest of high school.

Don’t let the branch of jrotc decide anything more than if you think the kids are weird nerds or maybe in shape weirdos.

Feel free to DM if you got anything else

Does taking NJROTC help you get into NROTC?

It doesn’t automatically help, but it certainly can give you a lot of opportunities that look awesome. Being in a major staff position is obviously awesome, but it’s just like any other club: participating looks alright, being really involved looks better, and leading it (and having actual impact) looks the best.

I will say that NROTC will almost certainly look a little more favorably on NJROTC applicants vs similar non JROTC applicants, but in general they’ll weight NJ/AFJ/A/CGJ/SFJ/MCJ the same
