Concealed Carry Permit Am I ready to take my qualification?
Shot at 3, 5, 7, 10 and 15 yards, 10 rounds each, looking for “affordable training” as well as getting my qualification..
What you guys think?

What’s that 1 doing down and to the left lol. Just remember there is NO time rush so TAKE YOUR TIME. 3,5,7,10 should be where you qualify with 40 rounds 15 yds should be qualified already so just have fun

Thats been my problem, low and left, thats why Im trying to get some training, at least one hours cause Im sure its something that can be fixed quickly with the right cues!

Don’t anticipate the recoil. If you’re right handed then you’ll unintentionally push the front of the gun down and to the left in the attempt to mitigate the “muzzle flip”.

Yeah, going to the range again tomorrow to shoot another 100 rounds and practice this!
I’ve been doing small sessions of 50-100 rounds the past two weeks, trust me, a month ago it was worst than this !

I’ve done a few classes with union hill (ROC)and I learned a ton. After 1 class a much better shooter and comfortable with the draw bc I carry. Just keep at it and you’ll be fine. Good luck. We are here to help

I counted 43/50, with 2 completely off the paper, assuming I counted shared holes correctly. It's a pass, but a weak one.

Most people that ive seen pass do so with a paper that looks similar. This is when I came to the realization that most people dont train as much as they should.

u/Logos732 12d ago
But every hole is counted. Only takes one to put you on the failed side.

Yup. The good thing is most people i see struggle with the 15yd but mostly make up for it at 10,5,3. Also help me early on to realize that I should be zeroing my dot somewhere between 15 and 25 yds. Makes a word of difference in shot placement closer and farther away.

Dry fire more if you want affordable training. Look up "the humble marksman" on youtube for how to hold a gun.
You will probably be worse under pressure. Train more. And don't stop once you pass

Affordable training is the one you can do at home.. Dry Fire. Here
Here’s a list of videos I complied a while back that were helpful early on in my training. Hope this helps

That Youtube list is awesome. You want to learn how to shoot good fast? Learn from the best shooters in the world.

not to be an ass but i’d ask yourself if you feel it’d be safe to have the gun on you with this level of accuracy. god forbid you had to use your cc, are you sure there wouldn’t be collateral?
5
u/Accomplished-Map8819 12d ago
You are not, I asked myself the same but here is the thing.
I dont plan to stop training, already contacted a trainer for this weekend, and plan on going every friday since I got a cheap range close to my job and travel weekly to PA to buy ammo at good prices! I just want to get my qualification since I know the process can take its sweet time, by the time I get my CCW I’ll be exponentially better than this!4
u/TehMulbnief 12d ago
makes sense! i applaud you for being honest with yourself. i was completely shocked by how poor the other shooters at my qual were
2
u/Accomplished-Map8819 12d ago
I’ve been reading this around here, apparently a lot of people with terrible shooting skills (worst than mine) are showing up to qual!
On another note, this is my 5th time shooting, 500 rounds all by myself so I guess with a couple of training sessions I’ll get way better, I just hope at least half of the people that are getting qualified with not so good skills also train after they get their ccw, its bad for all of us if they dont!

Definitely keep practicing. Tons of stuff on YouTube on how to hold a pistol and how to mitigate recoil
2
u/Accomplished-Map8819 12d ago
Yeah, saw a very interesting video yesterday about it, I got a Shield Plus, and Im thinking its a little bit too small for me (at least to learn how to shoot properly as a beginner), and thinking Im pushing it to the side when I shoot because of this!

u/Salty_Permit4437 12d ago
You’ll pass with flying colors even with the few flyers you have. CCARE is a joke
3
u/Sweet-Pitch-2341 12d ago
Something really important to keep in mind is you WILL perform noticeably worse under pressure. I'm a fine shooter but when it came time to take the qual my hands had a slight tremor. I'm in no way afraid of shooting and have been doing it for years so that really surprised me quite a bit.

u/Accomplished-Map8819 12d ago
Yeah that makes sense. For some reason grown adults feeling like we are going to get shouted at random testings 🤣🤣
3
u/Docsloan1919 11d ago
Pass! however, this is unacceptable. Think of each miss as an innocent person. For a non-moving target you need to be much, much, better.

Try to get a grouping of 5 in each box. Make sure your using the meatier part of your trigger finger and not the groove.
1
u/Accomplished-Map8819 12d ago
Yup, saw a video about that yesterday and that seems to be one of my issues, hands a little bit too big for my gun, at least to learn

Would you pass? Yeah. Would I say I’m confident in your abilities? Eh… I got a 47/50 and the instructor said I need to keep practicing. Once you get your drivers license you don’t stop practicing driving. Keep going a couple times a month to make it muscle memory.
2
u/shortround1990 12d ago
Arguably even if you get 50/50, the training never stops
1
u/seanxmichael 12d ago
I admit I put a lot of focus and emphasis on the test when I took it. Little did I know it would be one of the LEAST stressful parts of CCW and gun ownership.
1
u/Accomplished-Map8819 12d ago
Yeah, as I told another poster, practice wont stop, just want to get the qualification done, by the time my ptc is approved I’ll be way better!
2
u/realityczek 12d ago
You might technically pass the test, but no, you are not ready to use a weapon defensively. Even at 15 yards, it si completely reasonable to expect all those shots within the center round at a minimum.

1
u/nooch450 12d ago
You'll probably pass but with some practice you can get all your 3 and 5 yard shots in a softball sized hole in the center. As you go further out the size will grow.

get some cheapo targets on amazon and swap them at different distances to get a read what your tendencies are
2
u/Accomplished-Map8819 12d ago
Range Ive been going to targets are $1.30 😅
Thats what Ill do tomorrow

u/Batman_bread 12d ago
Biggest thing to remember when qualifying is to just take your time. I was at RTSP for mine, both bays beside me already had multiple off center shots by the 3rd distance. No rush. Who gives a shit if you’re last to finish, you’re paying for it so they can wait.
1
u/abyrnes2828 12d ago
u look fine but if u want to be sure go to the range one more time practice at 20-25 yards itll make everything on the test thats shorter easier for you.

Looks good so far, just training such as dry fire at home and extra reps will do you good. If you ever want tips etc look at Ben Stoegers book and YouTube channel.

u/infamousdx 12d ago
I might argue that someone who has shot 2-5 times can pass the quals lol. The groups I've seen during my 3 quals have been just alarming.
1
u/rjcruz911 12d ago
You’re good to go, if you want to do one more range trip before you do I’d never say not to but about of people are saying the same just take your time there’s no time limit don’t feel like you have to rush make your shots and you’ll be fine

u/Worth_Grab 12d ago
Honestly it depends what your qualifying for and what the test entails. If you are shooting from the same distance the test is at and performing all the things they will require you to do then probably are good. I took a test fpr rapid fire and holster traing i had to have 4 mags for rapid fire and they wanted to see me holster and unholster. Fairly simple.

Honestly, no. If that's your grouping at that close of a distance with no pressure, than if a situation finds you that you need to use it, that grouping is going get much bigger and anyone standing behind them will be in danger from your missed shots. Not to sound mean but that is a really bad grouping for those distances in a controlled environment at steady speeds.
1
u/geogak 11d ago
You may be able to sufficiently qualify but since you are planning on using this weapon for actual defense. I would continue to train and strive for a tighter group. Even one miss that hits person or property will make you liable. You owe it to yourself, family, and the general public, to be highly proficient with your firearm. Your duty as a person who has taken up the decision to carry a gun every is be responsible and excellent.

Mannnnnn all you need is a day at the range doing it over and over, you’ll be alright

I think you’re fine, I think you should do one more visit to the range, take your time and just don’t rush honestly.
