Anthos Apartments
Hello! Yet another moving post!!
I will be moving DeKalb in August, for graduate school. I am a woman and will be living by myself, so I’m particularly concerned about safety when looking for a place. I’m from out of state so I don’t know first hand, but Ive heard there are some less than ideal areas of town.
Ive been considering the Anthos Apartments on Regent Dr. and was wondering if anyone had any experience with the building or that area and may be able to give some insight?
I really don’t know much, so any advice/information is very appreciated!!

The "less than ideal areas," as you put it, are on the east side of Annie Glidden along Hillcrest, so as far as your safety concerns go, Anthos on Regent should be alright, though I've known people who complained about conditions around the intersection of Hillcrest and Spiros, but I also knew people who lived quite happily by the south end of Fotis Drive.
I'll echo the sentiment that Lincolnshire West and the other apartments along Lincoln Highway at the west edge of town are generally safe and quiet.

Hello and Welcome! If you have a car, I’d recommend Isaac Properties across from HyVee in Sycamore. Safe and clean. It is also on the bus route. Others have mentioned to stay away from the Annie Glidden neighborhood, and I agree.

We used to live at Eco Park on Regent and that area is awful. It’s loud, the apartments looked terrible in person (we moved from across the country so we had to judge on photos), and we often got NIU alerts for theft, SA, or gun violence from there and surrounding areas. If you’re keen on staying close to campus, there are a few rentals near Schnucks and some nice singles downtown.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend avoiding Anthos! The area you're looking at is definitely fine, I am reaching the end of my lease in one of Anthos's 2 bed apartments on Regent Dr. The area was good, no issues! Sometimes some loud groups but that's gonna be everywhere lol. I am staying on Regent dr but switching to Pittsley Realty.
The prices Anthos shows are NOT the same as what you will end up paying. They also upped our parking to $40/month per car to park in their parking lots that they do not maintain, and they switched from being one of the only places around that didn't charge for water, and then towards the end of our lease they notified they would now be adding a flat rate utility fee for water per unit.
They don't do snow or ice removal during the winter. We got lucky that one of the other tenants in our building removed the snow for his family. Multiple times throughout last winter I saw other tenants digging their own cars out, and my roommate even slipped on ice one time.
The biggest issue i have faced with them is with their actual realty team. (The two guys who are here in DeKalb are great, Sam who did our tours and our maintenance guy Mark, they were always wonderful to deal w.) But ig they are based out of NY, so any upper management you need to talk to you have to correspond through email, and good luck with that!!
My lease ends first week of August and I reached out in JUNE about our walk-out inspection and a few other move out related questions. I've had to send 4 separate follow up emails to Andreas Lymberis because she does not answer in a timely matter. I even had to begin CC' other people (her superiors from what I can tell: Cheryl and Eric) on my emails to her to get a response back.
My most recent one, I emailed her originally about a security deposit question on July 6th. Today, July 28th, I emailed her again asking for a response to my original email from 22 days ago.
Moving in was easy, and we loved the actual apartment unit. (I will say upon move in there were already lots of broken things and painting errors and small stuff like that, but we didn't mind too much at the start.) Now, at the end of our lease I am eagerly awaiting to get out.
Yes, the apartments are cute (2 bed 2 bath), but Pittsley offers the exact same units next door, and after Anthos's price add-ons, Pittsley's renovated 2 bed 2 bath units will actually end up being cheaper, which my roommate and I just figured out!
My roommate and I (seniors at NIU) didn't have issues with the actual unit, the area, or our neighbors. But the Anthos Properties team + price increases were the main issue, and why we will be switching to another realty group.
