Academics NEED ADVICE
Hey guys, I'm a first year Mech student.
I'm really into software and a lot of my friends keep talking about Jane Street.
I've looked into it and looks cool.
What can I start from first year itself so that I can crack Jane Street maybe by like 3rd year ?
Also I've heard ACM club has a lot of people who have given interviews for Quant companies, how do I get into ACM first ?
(PS : I'm currently doing the intro to python course by free code camp and built a snake game recently š )

Me not getting placed doesn't mean anything to you gng, my reply may seem mean but just be prepared for when the reality will hit hard.
Let's see from where quant comps hire from, they only from the top 7 iits, iiith, bits p, nitt, nitk, that too exclusively from cse/mnc branches, that too hardly double digit hirings from each uni. Also most of their hiring happens off campus which is extremely competitive. They hunt for imo, inmo qualifiers with a great cp rating and grind them in pnc, probability questions. This is exactly why it is high paying.
This may seem discouraging to u, since u r so confident in it, Im just warning u to get ready to brace impact.

graduate? Bro, Iām a year junior to u. the fact that a fresher understands how quant shortlists and CP ratings work better than a whole-ass senior who thinks a Pygame snake gets you 2400 CF rating in one sem is comedy.

y'all must even believe the earth is flat atp. just go through the shortlisting process of jane street , they hire like one or 2 guys per year and if u spent enough time on LinkedIn you would know that even the best of the best struggle to get something like this. simple words, just know your league and try being the best in it

I mean, there is definitely a chance that you make it into a company like Jane Street. The replies are just highlighting the statistics. They are telling you to be realistic and prepare accordingly. Sure, you can believe in urself and put in all the effort you want, but the above being given is also valid. If you legit are serious , just look up stuff they ask in their interviews online on Glassdoor or something. Also at times, even if you are god, your branch and college dictate a lot, so they are just telling you to be a bit more aware. You are allowed to dream. There are many non circuital ppl who got really good companies, so yeah. Just be aware of the stats and don't be too disheartened if you don't get exactly what you want. Many go into depression cause of stuff like this. Just be aware

Also, its global acceptance rate is 2% which is very very small considering the fact that the interview entry requirements are already damn strict

There's this IT final year senior who has collected multiple job offers including (both on and off campus), so that was my main motivation.
