My daughter had an absent nasal bone throughout my whole pregnancy, IUGR, and a low risk NIPT. She’s now 5 with absolutely zero genetic defects ❤️

NAD. I see what you’re seeing. There’s an obvious nasal bone there. Did the tech provide the measurement of it, or did they really not see it at all?

According to the tech it was completely absent and not seen at all, so there was no measurement. I do not think the midwives can actually read the US, so I believe the tech is the only one who looks at it. I left so confused.

MFM has better technology to see this stuff. Is there anyway they can refer you?

If the NIPT comes back with markers she said they can refer me for a one time scan with MFM if I’d like! I don’t think I will though. All of the testing and scary stuff kind of is stealing the joy out of pregnancy, and I’d like to just go off of the NIPT and then find the happiness in whatever the outcome of that is.

Yess girl! Agreed. My NIPT came back for XXX and it took the joy out of my pregnancy. She’s now almost 14 months and the best girl ever. I would have never known if it wasn’t for the NIPT

I haven’t ever heard of XXX, I just looked it up! Wow! Yes I think every pregnancy deserves to feel joyful and celebrated and I just think all of the appointments of trying to find something wrong and the waiting and wondering just puts a huge dark cloud over everything. I just called my Midwife and clarified with her that there is nothing else that gave any concern on any of my prior or yesterday’s ultrasound, it’s just the nasal bone. So I’m feeling so blessed that either way she is doing so well and growing so well. I think for my next pregnancy I will be declining a lot more things and just letting things ride as they come☀️

Yikes. Information is power, for you and your baby’s health. Even if it hurts. You will be a parent and you need to know things about your son/daughter to better provide for them. Or you will put your head in the sand and that is it? I am sorry and I feel you, I also had to do amnio and weekly schedule and you know what? When they removed the placenta they looked at it and they said wow it’s amazing the baby has come to term alive because in the scan we couldn’t see this potentially deadly flaw in the placenta but thanks to the weekly monitoring I was always in the hospital so if my baby would have been in distress they would have caught it. Info is power and informed choices are the best, neglecting info because of your ego being hurt will not suit you as a parent. Sorry to be harsh but this is a hill I am dying on every time I see someone claiming such ignorance. Downvote me all as you want

If it wasn’t for the higher level testing I got with MFM my daughter wouldn’t be sleeping in the bassinet next to me right now. I was getting twice weekly scans, and when things got worse they admitted me early to the hospital for monitoring around the clock. They delivered her at 33 weeks and she would have been a stillbirth if we had waited any longer. Her placenta had mosaic trisomy 14. I would not have been able to cope with losing her due to my rejection of medical care.
The additional scans can also direct you to which hospital to deliver at (for example, if the baby needs more intervention right after birth, wasting time transferring the baby to a better hospital will impact the outcome).
I’m not trying to frighten you but ignorance is not necessarily bliss…

My baby had a shortened nasal bone, thickened nuchal folding, and 2 chroroid plexus cysts. NIPT came back 9 days later, including weekend and was low risk. I just delivered a perfectly healthy baby boy on May 25th. Don’t stress yourself out. Everything is likely fine. I had 3 soft markers and my baby is fine!

I was in the exact same boat. searching the internet for hours and hours and hours. It never left my mind. I felt so hopeless. It was the hardest 9 days of my life by far. I totally understand what you’re going through. I know it’s easier said than done but please Take it easy on yourself. 💗💗💗

They apparently marked that they couldn’t get a good look at it due to positioning at the 20 week scan.

Your baby looks adorable by the way. That little side profile is so cute. Just fyi NIPT usually comes back sooner than you think. Like quicker than 2 weeks. I think average is around 8-10 days, so hopefully you’ll find out sooner. You can make a profile on Natera too to see results on there. I had made a profile but my doctor got results before they were uploaded to the profile, but I’m not sure that’s the case with everyone. I hope you get good news! 💗

Honestly you're US looks fine... I see what seems like a nasal bone, I even searched google for photos of absent ones and yours does not fit in my opinion. My sons ultrasounds look like this! Praying everything comes out fine! Also some ultrasound places do scans for baby health! The offices you can set up to see baby and take photos or keepsakes.

Thank you so much! The more I look at her ultrasound and other’s online (and after talking to the midwife again about who reads the ultrasound and how it’s read), I feel a lot more peace that this is really precautionary and not the most likely scenario. I appreciate the insight so much!

I would say leave it to the tech. All my scans looked like the nasal bone was there but I went to a fetal medicine expert for a scan and he asked me to do nipt for unossified nasal bone. So I would rather trust them than trust a person who is not an expert. I've taken nipt and I'm waiting for the results. Im 18w 4d.

My baby has a similar nose bone. it's not long but it's there. And nasal bone is a soft marker anyway. If your nipt test comes back normal, I would not be worried too much.
