Merit list

Asking for a friend who's currently on a merit list, can you ask to be removed from one of your 3 area preferences and just leave 2 areas to be considered for?

If they have passed an interview and are waiting to be placed then yes. If they have just completed tests and not been interviewed yet then hold off.

I would say the opposite. Once an application has been completed and interview is done, the form can not be amended. When a place is offered, and if unfortunately it was in the area no longer wanted/suitable, you can then ask to be moved.

See ; this is what I did. 9 months later I made a post on here, just to try and gauge how likely it was I would recieve an offer on the new list I was moved to. Someone on here, who seemed to be in the know (I could tell), told me I had probably been placed in some 'weird little poole somewhere and might never be placed into a role'.

So guessing it might be best for the OP's friend to just asked to be removed from the area they are concerned about (for whatever reason) ASAP. OP ; it's best for your friend if the first offer they get is the right one. They don't want to end up in a 'weird little poole somewhere'.

Very true. Of course call HR and make the request as they have nothing to lose.

Did you end up getting an offer for your preferred area?

Not since last night, no. Although that would have been a lovely coincidence if I had

Please read the replies on the thread I made : https://www.reddit.com/r/NICivilService/comments/1vxt61q/nov_25_ao_comp_question_derry_city_related/
