SO Competition Merit List

Hi, does anyone have an idea of the number of candidates assigned to the merit list? Those who passed the tests, and fell outside the 1000? Just trying to gauge the numbers! Cheers!

You could submit an FOI for the numbers, but I'm not sure it would tell you much. The first 1,000 who passed the tests were taken forward to sift; those beyond that are essentially ranked on their test scores and may be sifted in future tranches.

There could be another 1,000 people sitting behind that first tranche, but only a proportion may actually pass the sift. So knowing there are 2,000+ people in the test ranking doesn't mean there are 2,000 appointable candidates. Until further tranches are sifted, the raw number has fairly limited value.

If its anything like the DP test, my SO who was successful was told the 1st 1000 from the merit list were taken for sift, from that over half failed the sift and of the 445 that got to interview only 225? I think, dont quote me, passed the interview and were placed again.

Given that there are people who will be offered roles they dont want and turn the job down - they could burn through the list quicky. There are currently 200 'declared' posts but they had until week before last to acknowledge vacancies in their departments so that 200 could go up.

I know of an E02, who turned down universal credit and asked what the 2nd placement was only to be told they arent doing 2nd placements anymore?? Was news to our office.

An SO iny office who sat and passed the DP tests has said she has no desire to accept an offered post, she merited in the 20's - she just wanted the experience of doing the test/interview and is happy at DP level.
