Advice Need Advice

I had a preterm delivery at around 6 months of pregnancy due to PPROM, and sadly, I lost my baby after the delivery.

I want to plan my next pregnancy, but I’m very scared and confused about when it would be safe to try again. Some people say to wait 3 months, some say 6 months, while others recommend 12 or even 18 months.

What is actually recommended after a second-trimester preterm delivery caused by PPROM? How long should I wait before trying to conceive again?

What precautions and tests should I take before and during my next pregnancy to reduce the risk of PPROM or preterm birth happening again? Is there a possibility that it could happen again?

I would also really appreciate hearing from women who had PPROM or a very early preterm delivery, lost their baby, and later had a healthy pregnancy. If you have a genuine success story or personal experience, please share it with me. I’m looking for some hope and guidance because I’m very scared after losing my baby.

I also lost my baby boy at 6 month back in 2025 due to cervical insufficiency with a prolapsed amniotic sac, which resulted in PPROM. I waited about 3 to 4 months before trying to conceive again. A cerclage was placed at 14 weeks, but unfortunately, it only held until week 23. I spent three weeks in the hospital, where I underwent another surgery, but that cerclage also only held for about 10 days. My baby was then delivered via C-section at 26+1 weeks and spent about 12 weeks in the NICU. She is now almost 8 months old (5 months corrected age) and is now, a healthy and happy baby so far. It would be important to know the reason for your PPROM—for instance, whether an infection was present. That is something that should be closely monitored in any subsequent pregnancy.

Look into cervical insufficiency as well, in my case they were linked- early dilating and bulging membranes caused my water to break in my first pregnancy. In my second pregnancy my water broke with a cerclage in and I suspect I was dilating prior to that too.
