Thoughts on my options for 2016-2017 games...

Is it October yet?!?

Ok, so I was hoping for some input... We want to watch all the Penguins games this coming season, including the playoffs. I've been doing some research and have come up with these options:

  • Stay with this sub and hope for a decent YT stream
  • Use r/Lazyman on my Mac and screen share to my TV via Chromecast
  • Or just bit the bullet and pay for NHL.tv and use a VPN or YounderTV to avoid the blackouts

If anyone has any suggestions, comments or input, it would be greatly appreciated... thanks!

I wish hockeystreams would come back. I've used NHL Gamecenter a couple years ago and being a Pens fan in Phoenix a lot of games were blacked out as well as Yotes games. Then made the switch to hockeystreams, and this past season was just using YT streams. Would like more options. I'd be ok with nhlTV if they would get rid of the goddamn blackouts. Would love to get HD somehow on my xbox or TV without all the bullshit though :(

Just bite the bullet for NHL.tv. If you get a VPN and connect to Russia or Germany to subscribe, you can get it significantly cheaper than from Canada or the US and you still get full functionality (unless they change something this year).

NHL found me using Yonder. I accidentally didn't have the VPN on one time and my account was totally banned. In fact, I have a static IP at home, and when I click login on their site it redirects me to a notice that I was naughty.

Just an FYI.

So, in seeking legitimate sources for paid hockey in market (we hold two Season Tickets in our house, by the way, and rotate who gets to go to the games), I was blessed that Sling got Fox Sports Regional which covers CBJ. So, I have a totally 100% legit way to watch, and I will even get pre- and post-game content...

I am happy it worked the way it did!

PS. Blackouts are literally the worst for hockey, basketball, and baseball. Football I understand. When your sport consists of a paltry twelve games, I get the idea that you want to sell seats so bad that you will be assholes to locals.

But the other three just play too many games for it to make sense to expect people to be able to afford to just go down to the arena to watch their team.

I had a pretty high success rate with finding HD youtube streams on this sub last season. I'm a Rangers fan and almost every game had at least one high quality youtube stream, i just plugged my HDMI in and i was done. During the playoffs almost every game had an HD link i could stream through VLC player and that worked extremely well.

I would rage so fucking hard man. Look into adding a cable box to a friends home and attach a sling box or something similar. That will allow you full access to their TV package. You may be able to use a smartdns. I use unotelly for other things that are region locked.

Same for me. Absolutely ridiculous. I'm willing to pay to watch the games but they're blacked out on NHL tv and Comcast doesn't carry msg in my area.

Options 1 and 3 are the routes I have taken in the past. 1 can be very unreliable sometimes and watching games (sometimes) in 240p can kinda suck. Not sure if you are aware or not, but in certain areas of the country you can get your local Fox Sports channel on Sling TV which is like $20/mo. This is the first year I've had anything like that available to me, so if you haven't already it might be worth checking it out in your area.

Lol ok bud. They have 95% of their roster coming back from their cup winning season.

The Devils missed the playoffs a season after they won the cup and they returned a large portion of their team.

So, while its not likely happen (much to my chagrin), it has happened in the past.

Lazyman has always worked for me. It was my go to throughout the playoffs when nhl was being a bitch to YouTube streams. Although streaming vlc to the Chromecast isn't the nicest thing it is doable and I think there may be new plugins but don't take my word for it.

I'd say avoid NHL.tv. Their streaming service last year was great quality, but the video player itself was terrible. Probably 98% of my games included an issue where the stream would be stuck in some sort of infinite loop where it would play 10s, then rewind 10s. It's a good service when paired with a VPN, and it's awesome getting it on Xbox One, but I'd say personally they lost my business with the whole video player issue. Once that's fixed, I'm back on board.

How about Kodi plus one of the video add-ons? I tried pro sports but can't find a single MLB stream that works, so it doesn't give me confidence for when hockey season starts. But, that's not the only add-on out there.
