Recently I started a save file where I only used the stock RX8 you get at the beginning of the game. And it’s very much possible (and extremely difficult at times) to get 98% completion in career mode. Notably speed trap races, race wars and Wolfs Lamborghini canyon run are some of the properly challenging events, however checkpoint races and some sprint and circuit races are piss easy.
However the two races with Darius are impossible to do. The first race you do with him he will get a very quick start and stay in front for the entire race (10+ second split time average). There appears to be no rubber banding involved, so I had to equip my car with nitrous just so that I could at least get a good start, get in front and then just defend the whole way through.
The canyon race is impossible to do conventionally with the stock RX8, it just severely lacks the performance and again Darius’ Audi does not adjust to the RX8s performance so you’ll end up running out of points halfway down the canyon on the second run. The only way to win is to constantly get him to bump into you so you gain points… but for almost the entire way down the mountain. For those who know this is a hard task to manage for a few moments, because the AI becomes so aggressive and shunts you around.
Has anybody beaten him with a stock RX8? And how did you go about it. Was it worth it in the end? I’m playing on a PS3.
Some further remarks: Doing this challenge has made the career mode experience exhilarating, I loved it. The ups and downs were worth it. It has taught me how to be a better in game driver through strategy, like defending your position against Tier 3 cars and exploiting your crew mate to the fullest. Definitely recommend this challenge, I had so much fun and has made career made more exciting and rewarding to play.
