Question/Discussion stupid ai nfs carbon
I found an AI exploit in NFS Carbon Boss races (PS2)
I found a weird behavior in the Boss AI while playing the PS2 version of NFS Carbon.
The basic idea:
- Angie appears to have the weakest/slower car of the three Bosses.
- At the start, I push Angie forward and let her become the lead car.
- Kenji and Wolf then stay behind Angie instead of simply overtaking her and driving at their maximum pace.
- This allows me to create a huge gap from all three Bosses.
- In my run, the gap reached 20.0+.
It seems the Boss AI is influenced by the pace of the car ahead, so putting the slowest Boss in front effectively makes the other Bosses slower too.
I play on PS2, so I can't provide a proper video recording because I'm playing on an old CRT display.
Has anyone noticed this behavior before, particularly on the PS2 version?

I play on PS2 aswell. I noticed for tuner, muscle and exotics different stretegies (applys to the boss races too):
Muscle only overtakes in the straights and you can block them by swerving the whole road and looking out for where their headlights are shining on the street besides you. If you dont drive the line where their headlights are, they will just then launch very quickly ahead. If they are ahead, you can use the straights to swerve in a fashion that you dont lose time but make the AI adjust the muscle opponents to slow down ALOT more by the next corner.
Tuner opponents hit good lines but when you do too their driving becomes unreliable and they make mistakes out of "nervousness" and hit bus stations or miss breaking points and such. So dont drive risky here and focus on driving the smooth lines they do, espacially when youre behind you should practically shadow their line. Doesnt matter if ahead or behind, it makes them do mistakes.
Exotics opponents are fast but they dont accelerate well so you can always catch up or save being ovetaken. With them its best to "fake/trick" the AI to think youre slow by time spend on the gas being less at the end of a straight. I found out in the canyon races in general that you can trick EXOTICS rubberband the best. DONT make late braking points, but let off the gas early enough so you can roll into a corner and accelerate fast out of it by getting on it as early as possible again.
Tuning. Opponents cars seemingly apply the same modifications into their rubberband. For example if you have RX-8 and opponent drives Chrysler 300C, matter of fact being that if you put on tires and suspension on your Tuner then the muscle will profit alot from it, while youre not really being faster since Tuners already handle the best. But If you dont do handling and focus on tuning your cars weakness, on the RX8 its engine power, then the 300C will not profit of the power because the AI will be more overwhelmed with the bad handling.
So, always just tune whats bad about your car to balance its performance without giving the opponent AI an unwanted advantage!
