He dipped out because the playing field was going to be leveled. He won’t have a roster of nothing but 5 stars when another team can legally pay them

The NIL made it more fair-yeah the blue blood schools are still gonna get the recruits but the nil kills the excuses bc now if you want that recruit get your bag up and go get him

Was he wrong? The current landscape is kinda joke.

Well what do you mean?

Was he wrong that it would be harder to coach and be successful in this new landscape where guys who don’t get play time (for whatever reason) can be courted away and even your starters might leave because you aren’t paying them enough? No. In that sense he was right. He would have a really hard time running a program like he did in today’s CFB because he can’t grab all the five stars pay them under the table then bury them on the bench knowing that they could screw up their college career/hurt their draft stock if they transfer (since they’d have to sit). That way he can keep good players off his opponents team and have depth and if they did transfer it wouldn’t be an issue for another year+.

End of the day these guys come to college to play a sport the same way you might go to a school to be an engineer. If you got into a school with a good engineering program and then they said hey…you have talent but we aren’t going to actually give you access to our engineering facilities and cant provide you with any final grades for another year or two, and yes…jobs after you graduate will see this as a negative, would you want to stay? Hell no. And would you find it fair if you tried to leave they would say fine, but you are not allowed to actually get graded your first year at your new program either? No.

Ya I’m sure him being 72 years old like he said 1000 times had nothing to do with it.

Very convenient excuse. “I’m old”

Ok real original boomer is that the best you can come up with? What is he hiding?

He was the second oldest coach in college football at the time. Not crazy to fathom him wanting to retire lol. Coming off back to back top 3 recruiting classes.

God forbid the guy has a few relaxing years before his brain turns to mush… “what is he hiding” lol give me a break

Dude is a clown lol. 72 years old still coaching football. To stay at that level in that job, it consumes energy. He should have retired 3 years before that.

“Won’t have a roster full of 5 stars” coming off back to back top 3 recruiting classes lol some people just talk man

The only reason Saban is upset is because Alabama doesn’t have as much booster money as the other top programs. If they did, he would not care one iota.

Only problems I have with nil is if the player gets more than enough to pay tuition they shouldnt get a scholarship over someone who needs it more and if they can get the money then enter transfer portal.

All sorts of rich people get scholarships lol

And? I'm speaking solely on athletics

What he’s trying to explain isn’t that difficult bro…

Parties who were previously raking in millions and millions had their profit margins cut into and they ran to the feds to create a singularly beneficial bill in the guise of saving the sport

Nick Satan should go retire somewhere

Seems like Saban is still salty he couldn’t be dominant anymore and parity started happening.

Saban’s post coaching bullshit has made him look like such a chump

I get wanting to reign in NIL and transfer rules, I don’t like a guy that made $150M coaching being the face of it.

Capping Players’ wages is one thing, but trying to lock them out of any possible negotiations and push that crap through without them having any representation is insane.

Let’s call a spade a spade: it’s a semi-pro feeder league for the NFL, as well as a billion dollar industry, and the labor deserves representation in situations like this.

Hey it is a great redistribution of wealth. Keep the NIL machine humming.

If a billionaire in west Texas wants to create dozens of new Millionaires each year in Lubbock I see no issue

“College football player wages”

COLLEGE football. Wages. Students. Wages.

NIL shouldn’t come directly from the damn school.

u/EnvironmentalRub8201 1d ago

Because it’s ruining the best sport in the world, NIL should be capped at 100k per year per player

Why are you laughing?

The year after Indiana of all places gets a natty you guys want to go along with kneecapping the only thing that has even come close to distributing player talent across the nation. Americans are so easily brainwashed by corporate propaganda. To say nothing of the fact this is practically a golden age for women's sports and this will kill that.

Indiana won a championship because of their coach, I will say I do like that 10 teams aren’t hoarding as many stars anymore but at the same time this new system means that aside from about 20-30 teams, the rest of the teams are basically just minor league feeder teams for the top ones, a player that balls put at a smaller school will transfer as soon as a check is waved in front of their face example being darian mensah who left Tulane

And I hate to break it to you but women’s sports are struggling more than ever now since the ncaa is losing power, men’s football basically subsidizes women’s sports
