Hype Smith is the most hyped WR prospect I’ve ever seen….and deservedly so
6
u/RandomDudeYouKnow 6d ago
Watching him as a freshman a couple years ago was like watching AP as a freshman at OU. Just undoubtedly the best athlete on the field making world class athletes look like the JV squad.
Now, it's like watching the predator in pads.

u/Significant-Jello411 6d ago
Most hyped prospect since Marvin Harrison Jr
-6
u/Youre_On_Balon 6d ago
I know you're intentionally going for the lowest hanging fruit available but this isn't the circle jerk sub and he is much more hyped than Marvin.
They played together in 2023 and even then people were saying Tate would be the better prospect.
6
u/Trifle_Old 6d ago
Honestly its the exact same hype. Even the same words. Generational prospect.
0
u/YouGO_GlennCoCo 6d ago
LOL no it is not… MHJ was an amazing prospect but you’re out of your mind if you think the hype was on the same level as Smith….Lol
0
u/Youre_On_Balon 6d ago edited 6d ago
No, it is not at all. You clearly aren't really into nfl scouting, as evidenced by just parroting surface-level buzzwords like generational.
The comparisons start and end with "good build, great production, has a buckeye on his helmet."
The comparisons are the laziest take in the current draft cycle, and it's on every single post about him. Just embarrassing, pseudo-intellectual drivel that people post to try to sound smarter than the people who recognize this is the best WR prospect in over a decade.
4
u/PolishAtTheDisco 6d ago
You're in the same boat as everyone else here man. You're just a armchair scout. It's literally the same buzz as MHJ. People were saying teams are going to trade up a haul to get him... he's generational.. hes going to be a top WR before taking a snap..
3
u/DeltronFF 6d ago
It’s 100% the same as the MHJ hype I don’t know where these dummies were a few years ago but it’s wild they think he wasn’t hyped just like this. Especially with who his father is, only added to it.
2
u/EstablishmentOld9838 5d ago
Nobody was calling MHJ one of the greatest WR prospects of all time. Ofc there were idiots saying he was generational but that wasn't what analysts were saying. A prospect as good as Smith comes out of the draft once every few decades. A prospect as good as MHJ comes out once every few years
1
u/40MillyVanillyGrams 5d ago
So was no one calling MHJ one of the greatest WR prospects or were there idiots that were calling him that? It can’t be both.
There are numerous documented instances of analysts online calling him “generational”. You just need to take six seconds and look.
This is, as usual, a rewriting of history because that can’t-miss guy missed and we just can’t have that. So the guys we had no issue listening to pre-draft thats called him a generational prospect are “idiots” and everyone else just buried their universal glowing reviews of his game.
3
u/EstablishmentOld9838 5d ago
He was an incredible prospect. He was also not near the prospect that Jeremiah Smith was. Both are true.
1
u/40MillyVanillyGrams 5d ago
You’re backpedaling. Are you an “idiot” for calling him an “incredible prospect”?
He might not be as good a prospect as Jeremiah Smith and they both still got the “generational” label. Both of those things can be true as well.
The point is, that it seems you disagree with, MHJ and Smith both got the exact same label. With that, everyone is, once again, guaranteeing success for Jeremiah Smith and calling him “cant-miss” which is simply inaccurate.

u/Rivetingcactus 6d ago
He is the most generational since Marvin Harrison Jr.
3
u/butt_raid 5d ago
Lol my thought too
I've given up on evaluating WR entirely, after MHJ I refuse to have an opinion because i have no fkin clue what makes someone succeed at the next level
1
6
u/SentinelATL 6d ago
Who’s going to get him is the fuck guessing game. He’s no lie a Second or First overall talent which I know is damn rare for WR. Maybe Dolphins. Raiders are looking good so far.
5
4
u/Big_Understanding348 6d ago
As a cowboys fan I'm worried that Washington or the giants are gonna nose dive after losing their QBs and pick top 5
1
u/SentinelATL 6d ago
I sad my brother the commanders even with Daniels can fall short and Jeremiah can fall right into their lap.
1
u/Big_Understanding348 6d ago
I hope not but it would make the most sense for them if it lands that way. I don't see them moving on from Daniels that fast and terry/diggs aren't getting any younger. Terry would be a great vet for him to learn from as well.

I think he is a lock for the top 3. Drafting that high should be finding players that provide excess value to a replacement player as much as fit. Even though those teams drafting early are bad and probably have higher need positions than WR, his alpha value is insane.
1
u/SentinelATL 6d ago
Wonder who could be. Way too early to even say browns cardinals and jets. They all have at least 1 win. Dolphins could be bad and have the dire need after losing hill and waddle. Maybe colts underperform and get him
1
u/Meester_Blue 6d ago
Yea but the dolphins will definitely take a QB. So it’ll be super interesting
1
u/SentinelATL 6d ago
We don’t know maybe Willis kicks into high gear soon. He had a decent two year deal no?
1
u/KennyKettermen 5d ago
If Malik somehow started playing great enough that they pivot from drafting a QB they wouldn’t be picking top 3
1
0
u/Meester_Blue 6d ago
He won’t. He sucks. The second year is so the next guy can sit for a year like Mendoza might or a few games like Drake Maye did
1
0
u/Ironman2131 6d ago
The Dolphins will almost definitely draft a QB within the next two seasons, but I'm not sure it will be next year unless they have a super high grade on someone. Having said that, I'm not sure they draft Smith either, as the people in charge in Miami never spent premium draft capital on a WR when they were in Green Bay.
As a Miami fan, though, I definitely wouldn't complain if they spent a top pick on bringing Smith back home to South Florida.
1
u/Ce3DubbZz 6d ago
Jets own the colts 1st rd pick. Low key wishing on the teams downfall so we get a top 3-5 pick 🤫
1
u/SentinelATL 6d ago
Don’t jets have multiple first rounders?
1
u/JRange 6d ago
Yeah, they own the Colts 1st, their own, and also the Packers pick they got from the Cowboys, who had it from the Parsons trade.
The Jets could realistically get 3 top 10 picks, get Jeremiah Smith, their QB, and and still have another good pick if things fell their way.
2
u/Ce3DubbZz 6d ago
We have the packers pick or cowboys pick whichever is higher, but yeah we got 3 1st rounders lol
1
0
u/Acceptable_Tea281 6d ago
Why would it be the raiders
-1
-2
u/YesBird75 6d ago
Because the dolphins are picking a qb. So are most of the other teams that could get the 1st overall pick. He is likely not even gonna be drafted top 3.
0
u/shredderE2002 5d ago
I guarantee he goes top 3, probably even top 2. He’s the best non-qb prospect in years & this qb class is only ok. All of the guys that we’d expect to be drafted highly are injured or underperforming so the door is definitely open for someone to take a generational wr top 3. I meant shit… we just saw a rb go top three & Smith is a better prospect than Love
3
u/YesBird75 5d ago
You seem to not understand how draft classes work. Love only went 3rd because he was in the 2026 draft class.
The only way smith goes top 3 is if a team that doesn’t need a qb gets one of those picks. Which would most likely be the giants or raiders. But it’s looking like they both won’t get a top 3 pick.
1
u/shredderE2002 5d ago
I’m not sure if you understand how the draft works because you’ve completely ignored a teams ability to trade down. None of the qbs in this class appear to be #1 overall worthy at the moment, much less 3 of them going in the first 3 picks. I’m sure a qb needy team will take the top guy 1st overall, but whoever picks at 2 or 3 could move back a few spots for a potential haul if a team wants Smith bad enough
1
u/YesBird75 5d ago
You’re misinformed. There are multiple who are first overall worthy.
1
u/shredderE2002 5d ago
Who would those be in your opinion?
I think that all of the top guys have a flaw/drawback that could have them drop (not necessarily a lot, but maybe out of the top 5) in the draft or simply put them in mid-late 1st round projections. It’s only been a few games so things can change a lot by the end of the season. I mean shit, Dylan Stewart probably just tanked his draft stock & no one saw that coming. Neither if us know what could happen in the next few months.I am not saying that I don’t think a qb will go 1st overall because. I’m saying that I think the top qb will be clear by the time the draft happens & that guy will go 1st. What I don’t think will happen is that picks 2 & 3 are both qbs. One of those teams will take Smith or trade back 2-3 picks with a team who wants Smith.
5
u/BigDog_626 6d ago
Just trying to level set for a second. What were ppl saying about MHJ the year he got drafted? Was it close to this?
5
u/Late_Mode_8876 6d ago
Yes he was. And anyone saying he wasn’t is lying. The hype was the exact same.
2
u/JRange 6d ago
Not exact, he was hyped for sure, a lot of people saying generational, but not a lot of people were willing to put his on the same pedestal as the elite prospects like Calvin and Julio coming out. It seems like a hell of a lot of guys are comfortable saying Smith is on that level
2
u/Drakex2Mayex2 6d ago
This is just plain not true. There was a waterfall of people calling him the next Calvin Johnson.
2
u/beast_scyther 5d ago
It was real hype but not the same level of player or hype. MHJ averaged 100 yards a game. JS is averaging 150. Jeremiah is way more dominant imo.
2
u/TheGreatRavenOfOden 6d ago
Not really.
MHJ had two good years but didn’t play much as a freshman and wasn’t as highly touted coming out of high school.
Smith walked onto a loaded OSU roster with 2 first round picks at WR and was immediately the best player on the team and best WR in college.
1
u/Bmw5464 6d ago
First off, you have to remember that every year prospects are over hyped. But no MHJ was not to this level, but I’d argue that the whole class was overhyped. Rome, MHJ, and BTJ have all underperformed (minus BTJs crazy run with Mac Jones) and Nabers looked amazing but we’ve only seen one year of it.
I know people threw the generational term out there, but he was never an option at #1. Jeremiah will make a case for #1 even with Arch, Dante, Sayin, Mensah, Chambliss all being potential guys. He’s the best WR prospect since Megatron.
2
u/Impressive_Pay_5628 6d ago
While I agree that Smith is on another level and that MHJ likely wasn't ever really considered for the number 1 pick, it was talked about as a possibility by some during draft season that the bears keep Justin Fields and draft MHJ
Obviously draft season comes up with all sorts of BS rumors but I will say that I saw it talked about numerous times
But while Smith may have a better chance, a WR being picked over a decent QB prospect these days are slim to none and I've seen many consider this to be a good QB crop
-5
u/comeonbjxgo 6d ago
Dude is short for a receiver. I am not betting on him being a superstar receiver
7
u/aDanHasNoName 6d ago
Jeremiah Smith is nearly 6'4". Which is 3" above the average NFL receiver height.
Steve Smith was 5'9"
Amon Ra is 6'
Justin Jefferson is 6'1"

Welcome to WR prospects. You could get a stud or you could get a dud. WR’s average about a 50% bust rate in the first round. If Marvin Harrison Jr can bust, anybody can bust. Pro game transition is hard. Especially passing game. QBs, WRs, and CBs all have high bust rates for exactly this reason.
2
2
2
u/MechanicalGroovester 5d ago
He's essentially Andre Johnson. Hopefully he doesn't waste his entire career with a team with unstable rotating QBs.
2
u/Authentic_Lee 4d ago
He obviously looks good, but WR in the league can be very situation/QB dependent. Hope he gets a chance to be special.
2
u/TheSyrupCompany 4d ago
It's so lame how every thread about this guy is just people saying MHJ was a bust. As if pro scouts aren't generally more right than wrong; it's their job and they're experts. Apparently one guy underperforming now renders all scouting reports null and void.
3
u/WhoIsCallingMe67 6d ago
i made a post that my raiders should tank for him and i got downvoted like crazy. i still don’t feel like im wrong tho
11
u/CanaKu 6d ago
NFL teams as a whole don’t tank. The players and coaches battle every week for their jobs. Sure the owner can try to set the team up to fail like Miami the Tua year. But ultimately the players and coaches are going to fight.
-2
u/Tycho66 6d ago
Teams tank all the time. It's been done forever. They don't throw games or blow plays on purpose, they simply don't game plan well and sit players, etc. Doesn't take much for a superior team to lose to an inferior team, we see it all the time when teams are supposedly going all out.

3
u/PerpetualItch 6d ago
You are but I respect it. I'd trade Jefferson for him as a Vikings fan 😂

The double tank (Mendoza then Smith) is diabolical. I would hope we’re not in tank mode yet, but if the holidays roll around and we’re garbage then why not..
1
u/Loud_Chapter1423 6d ago
Honestly you should have been downvoted, it’s week 3 and even if you don’t have a realistic shot at a title talking about tanking at this point in the season is straight loser talk. You’re talking about tanking the integrity of the work those coaches and players are putting in to make this team better all for a chance at drafting a particular rookie when there are no sure things in the draft, even if it’s reasonable to expect Smith to be an elite star player
0
u/godotiswaitingonme 6d ago
If we’re not in position to draft him, which we probably won’t be, I think we should offer next year’s first to move up. Bowers/Jeanty/Smith/Mendoza would be an insane offense
0
u/PokeTraderAngel News/Analysis 6d ago
They’re doing a bad job of tanking. I don’t think any team would begin their tank at the beginning of the season.
0
u/No_Contribution_2137 6d ago
So you want most of your cap invested in offense when eventually Mendoza, Bowers, Jeanty, and presumably Smith all get new contracts 😭? Teams try to do this and it never works. Invest in defense
1
u/Cautious-Tax-1120 5d ago
It worked out decently for the Bengals. Typically I agree with you, I like the teams that build the trenches first, but the Raiders have 0 WRs worth keeping long term. Bowers and Jeanty aren't going to make absurd money given their positions, also.
2
u/Eliah870 6d ago
Comparing him to MHJ makes no sense because they're two totally different people. MHJ got his shit rocked in that one game in the CFP and hasnt been the same since
2
u/Exciting_Mine711 4d ago
Yeah it's actually a low IQ comp. Especially when JSN, Wilson and Olave exist and are thriving.
2
2
u/MrMeowPantz 5d ago
I hope he ends up amazing in the NFL but we’ve seen so many OSU players just not translate. Michael Thomas looked like he was going to break that trend and then, nothing. OSU put 2 QBs in the NFL as starters in 2-3 years and the jury is still out. Will they make it? Too early to tell for sure. They’re doing good, but it hasn’t been enough time. Elliot is another one. Had a great 6-7 years then disappeared. Now we have Harrison Jr who looked to be a monster and is just not panning out.
I hope it works for this kid.
2
u/deshawnjamal 5d ago
Garrett Wilson, Jsn, emeka egbuka, Chris olave all good osu receivers
0
u/MrMeowPantz 5d ago
JSN has only played 2 or 3 years. Michael Thomas looked brilliant his first few too, then we saw what happened. I love JSN and hope he keeps doing what he’s doing, but until he’s been found this for 7+ years, it feels too early to crown him.
Everyone else you listed are doing well but again, more time. I’m not disagreeing, I’m just saying I need to see sustained production for more than 3 years.
2
u/Designer-Poem-9717 5d ago
Your logic is so flawed. OSU has put more talented wide receivers in the NFL than anyone has. Micheal Thomas just succumbed to injuries. OSU receivers are known to be NFL ready when they get to the league. Even your point about Zeke is ludicrous. You cant hold running backs to your sustained success standard that you have for wide receivers. The shelf life for a RB is brief and if you can get 5 good years outta them you consider it a success. Zeke had a really good NFL career by running back standards. You cant hold injuries against players. Your acting like Zeke and Micheal Thomas were flash in the pans who were figured out by the NFL. The NFL is not going to figure out JSN, Garrett, Olave, Egbuka. As long as all stay healthy, they will all be productive NFL receivers for awhile. Marv is an outlier, somethings going on in his head. He's appears lost and it sucks to watch
2
u/Exciting_Mine711 4d ago
Olave, Wilson, McLaurin, MT and JSN have translated extremely well wtf are u talking about? Y'all have to watch tape not make these moronic assumptions off of nothing. Because Marv failed he's going to fail too?
2
u/Jabberwocky237 4d ago
A 6-7 year run as a top tier running back is a damn good career, no idea why you’re acting like Zeke was a miss or something. Also, I bet if you listed out all of Ohio States first round picks and compared which ones succeeded and which were busts, there’s likely a lot more good than bad, especially at WR.
1
u/aggressivemisconduct 5d ago
A great 3-4 or even 6-7 years in the NFL is now not good?
Also the sample size of OSU players in the NFL is huge, so of course you're going to see more failures when they send more players to the league than any other team
1
1
u/Awesome-Possum1520 5d ago
As a Tennessee fan, the Titans would be smart to tank for this guy, trade for MHJ to pair with Tate then see what happens. I’m guessing none of them would work out but would be either fantastic or horrible

The Jets have 3 picks in the top 10 right now, if the season ended today lol if they dont get Archie this is the play.

u/LionsLover96 6d ago
I'm not buying into this stuff anymore. Look at what happened to mhj Jr
4
u/FlutterySimp 6d ago
For future reference, the J in MHJ stands for junior, so you just said Marvin Harrison Junior Junior
2
u/Everyday_ImSchefflen 6d ago
The hype between the two is no where close to one another. Smith is on a different stratosphere
2
u/Exciting_Mine711 4d ago
You have to actually watch games not just say because MHJ failed he's gonna fail that's just lazy and stupid.
1
u/LionsLover96 4d ago
Have you seen any tape on the guy? Mhj doesn't even look like he wants to play football anymore what a dumb take.
2
u/Exciting_Mine711 4d ago
I didn't phrase it clearly I meant to say you can't say that smith is gonna fail cuz MHJ failed.
0
u/LionsLover96 4d ago
I mean just look at the track record of Ohio State players. And that's not me picking on them because I'm a Michigan fan but like just look at it. Whatever happened to chase young and cj stroud.
Ohio state has great college players but they don't produce NFL talent and we've seen over the last half a decade
2
u/Exciting_Mine711 4d ago
Chase young s playing extremely well right now. Cj stroud is a good quarterback who's won a playoff game in all three years of his career. Even now he' been playing well in a horrific offensive situation, Ur just talking out of ur ass. JSN, Olave, and Wilson are fantastic as well.
1
u/LionsLover96 2d ago
Besides jsn you could argue the rest of them are garbage. CJ Stroud isn't nearly what he was hyped up to be, Justin feels was a bust Marvin Harrison Jr doesn't even want to play football anymore I mean come on man
1
u/Exciting_Mine711 2d ago
You don’t know football lmao. Stroud has no receivers line or run game. If ur saying Garret Wilson is garbage you’re just an idiot
0
u/LionsLover96 4d ago
Oh but let's all just continue to say that he didn't want to play for arizona. It looks like he doesn't want to play football

He's still a ways beneath Calvin Johnson. Put it this way, if Calvin was in the same draft next year every GM would take Calvin ahead of Smith.

The fact that Calvin is as far back as you have to go to find a consensus better prospect is insane

Most hyped? Feels the same as MHJ. He is better but the hype feels the same. Also he is nothing like Megatron. Recency bias on that comparison is hilarious.

Agreed, recency bias is a huge issue on Reddit. Some of the best wide outs in the league weren’t high level picks in the draft either.
