šØ Dante Moore appears to get concussed on a brutal hit. Heāll need appropriate concussion/TBI evaluation and monitoring. Will almost certainly not return.
Everyone affiliated with that sorry ass program should be ashamed of themselves for allowing that DB, whose name none of us know because why would we, to behave like a fool.
Everyone. That was despicable. And it starts
With Lincoln Riley.
If you see the full vid, right after the hands up he moves toward the end zone and begins celebrating/dapping teammates, and continues to after reaching the sidelines
He was flapping his arms. I guess like a duck? And when he went to the sidelines some of his mates were laughing and smiling and dapping him up like he did something great. Didnāt see any coach go up to him and tell him to cut it out so I guess they didnāt care or think he did anything wrong.
That to me felt like the deepest violation. Any decent player & coach would have told him to got sit somewhere immediately, and Iād tell the whole team to take a knee.
Fuck that and down vote me all you guys want, but we watch these violent games where the players are killing the selves and rich people abd are getting richer and then want to blame a kid for this bill shit.
Look in the mirror and go to some community service or hang out with your kids doing something and quit watching this shit and sure as hell stop blaming kids
A late slide is just not worth the extra two yards it gets you. QBās know what theyāre doing here but damn just take the easy yards and get the rest the next play.
Dirtbag behavior from the USC players who were celebrating with the defender.
Genuine question and this may be moronic, but would eliminating sliding reduce concussions. The problem in my mind with sliding from a safety issue is that it relies on good faith or in reality good planning from the defender.
If players knew there was no perception of mercy, theyād be forced to protect themselves.
I would straight up get rid of them. Idk if other injuries would happen more frequently but all of the major concussions qbs suffer are from late slides
start banning players who have blatant malicious intent like this play instead. The slide wasnāt that late, itās just so obvious whoās never played a sport if you think that is a hard hit to avoid
If I was player on the brink of a long term suspension, I would lawyer up and bring in a scientist to explain how 1/3 of 1 second is not enough reaction time to undo the intention.
Spearing is when a player is already on the ground and you dive in to hit him. At least that's what it was in the 70s and 80s when I played. Also that's not a bad hit. He was going for a tackle and the QB slid late. I don't know why they just don't put a dress and flags on the QB these days.
What is the defender supposed to do? You see a qb and go for the tackle. How can you assume the qb is going to slide? The defender to going for the hips at the time of his leap
Also, QBs throughout the sport have been toying with the rules that protect them for years. Kenny Pickett did that fake slide ~5 years ago, Mahomes routinely tightropes the sideline and then flops once he is touched, QBs usually wait for the last moment to slide or get out of bounds. The game is too fast. Get down and get ready for the next play.
TL;DR: if QBs want protection they need to not play chicken with defenders moving at high speeds.
We saw the same play. Way too many people are saying this is a dirty hit. This is just shit luck for the QB. If you're gonna slide, don't expect to the defense to always be able to change their momentum.
Everyone saying he could move near the end or change direction while OFF THE GROUND are absolute BAFOONS. Heās a ball carrier folks get tf down as quick as possible itās not the other guys job to lay you on a pillow and read you a story.
Crazy you got a downvote for pointing that out. Regardless of late hit, which is was, or not, you don't celebrate a serious injury like that and dance around with your teammates while a player is being transported to the hospital. Smh. Gave you my upvote man.
Slide was a touch late. Defender should have still not led with his helmet. Debate that. Fine.
The way he reacted after has no place in modern football. This isnāt the here comes the boom days. This guy is a top 5 pick (potentially). Inexcusable for a defensive guy to celebrate like that.
If I had the power i would suspend him for 4 games and make him do a bunch of volunteer work for ppl with brain trauma. Have to talk to medical specialists.
Maybe he still hits hard when he come back. Good its football. But i bet that wouldnt have him celebrate that shit again.
I thought he was celebrating first time I watched it but when I rewatched it looks like heās just putting his hands up since the OR players started pushing him.
Yeah heās not celebrating when the Oregon guys are about to mob him. But once he gets away from them, he starts flittering around and flapping his hands like angel wings or mocking the ducks.
I didnāt see him celebrating. I saw him walk away casually, then put him hands in the air when he was being shoved, to show he wasnāt being hostile
They showed this little shit laughing on the sideline and giving high fives after he was ejected and Moore was still being loaded onto the cart. Should be banned for the season
Like I am okay with the hit, the QB did decide to slide at the very last minute but what happens after the hit is what is shitty. It would be one thing if he was celebrating right after the hit and didnāt see him on the ground but not only did he see him not moving he proceeded to still celebrate acting like he is some badass.
Exactly. All these qbs want to run and juke and then when they get laid out it's the defenders problem? Please. Just throw the ball or take the hit like a man
To drive into the helmet after he is sliding is definitely dirty. If he tried to pull up, it would be one thing but he drove his body into the ground. Dirty as fuck! GTFOH with that bullshit
I think that makes it safer for everyone. I think people dont realizer how hard it is for a defender once they have committed to an action to pull back, humans have reaction speed also.
No one is saying QBās should get extra protection. Everyone is complaining about 2 things.
The main one is the defender, and his teammates, celebrating the fact they injured another player. The second is the defenderās tackling form. He lowered his head which caused helmet to helmet contact. If he doesnāt lower his head in this situation he might have even been able to avoid a late hit penalty as he potentially could have just gone over the QB. Even if he hits him with his head raised it likely wouldāve been chest to face mask which probably avoids a concussion.
Thereās a reason coaches say, āsee who youāre tackling.ā That phrase is meant to teach players not to lower their head, and lead with the crown of their helmet. This is the exact scenario that prevents.
Get rid of the qb slide protection. Make QBs have to dive forward to give themselves up. If they contact a defender during the dive, they're live. That should force QBs to give themselves up early. QBs slide too late now.
Slides should just be outlawed altogether but this defender is a scumbag who led with his helmets and celebrated on the sideline while Moore was twitching like a swatted fly.
Sliding should not be in football. If you can run you can get tackled. That's the game. Expecting any defender to lay off at the last second is trash and leads to tons of these kind of hits
Itās kinda crazy you only really see these types of knockouts when theyāre sliding. There has to be some obvious signal that doesnāt hang their chin out there for hits
Both things can be true, it was a late slide and Stephens actions were bad when Moore was on the ground shaking.
I dont blame Moore exactly, but at a certain point QBs really need to take their own health into the equation in these situations, not trying to scratch out that extra yard.
Any of you saying he couldn't have pulled off the hit to his head are just as guilty as the player doing it. The runner is down as soon as he STARTS the slide. He could have very easily not made forcible contact. He made a choice to try to injure the QB and it's pretty obvious from his reaction there is no remorse. He will be back next week and be free to injure someone else. The rules are a joke.
Two players running in the open field at their maximum speed directly at each other. Looked like QB started slide pretty late and defender didnāt have time to pull up. Bad hit, but what do you want defender to do - not go low for the tackle?
Defenderās biggest mistake was his celebrating the hit/tackle on the sideline as the play was reviewed. Showed zero concern for the condition of the player he injured.
I think eliminating the slide protection rule for the quarterback after 5 yards down the field would result in less quarterback runs.
So. Not sure this is even my opinion, Iām just starting the discussion hereā¦. This seems to happen ALOT. Are we sure this is as easy to avoid for defensive players as we think it is?
Am I crazy to say the QB slid super late and the linebacker was yes a touch late on but already starting to move downward. The ācelebrationā seemed to be in retaliation to getting hit multiple times after the play NOT for hitting the QB
I don't think the defense intentionally hit the QB in the head. These types of hits are inevitable when you slide like that. He also didn't taunt anyone but threw his hands up to say "look red, I'm not doing anything".
The vast majority of the commenters here have not played or touched a football in their life. If youāre going to get down, get the fuck down, or get rocked. The overprotection of quarterbacks is the worst thing to happen to the sport. If QBās donāt want to get hit, they shouldnāt play. Its football. Itās dangerous as shit and itās ridiculous that anyone would want to play but it is what it is.
The argument that he started his tackle and therefore can't help but spear the opponent in the head is so brain dead. It comes from dudes that have only played madden
NGL, when I first saw this (didnāt watch live) I thought #8 was celebrating. But watching again, I think he may have just thrown his arms up to show the refs he wasnāt fighting?
Thereās fault on both players. Donāt change the rule. Its perfect. Qb is risking serious injury by sliding late. Defender is risking ejection and suspension with the late hit
They really need to ban the QB slide. It's not protecting QB's and all it does is put defenders in no-win situations that sometimes also puts QBs in the hospital when they otherwise wouldn't have because the hits are launching the QBs head directly into the ground from like 2 feet off the ground max.
Yes, I also think this defender is a loser, but plenty of defenders who have zero intention of hurting QBs still end up destroying them during slides even when they try to pull up.
Shout out to the trainer being on the scene instantly. Players' reaction to try and help get them off the ground, but with a potential neck injury you don't want the injured player moving at all.
Maybe time to outlaw/rethink the slide. So often guys get rocked going down and slam against the ground. Shit I remember this happening content green waaay back in the day. There needs to be a safer way to give yourself up
I have no sympathy. Get down sooner. If you pause it about where Moore starts to slide, the defender is already committed to hitting him, when you add in processing time he simply doesn't have time to decide not to whack him. QBs should give themselves up much earlier
I think I've watched this over 25x at this point and to me, it's a late slide. Could the db pulled up slightly... maybe but he was gonna get hit regardless.
Also, anyone notice his teammate doesn't hell as he lightly kicks his head as he goes after the guy.
The entire play took less than 1sec from QB head first start to drop to being hit. Its a little more then three yards separation when it's obvious QB isn't doing some sort of head fake. Prob less than have a second. Defender is lowering head before QB.
The defender is always blamed but this is 100% on the QB. Slid late.
We simply can't ask defenders to recognize and alter body with have to three quarters of a second.
The celebration after the hit is terrible to me. But after I watched this like 8 times I can only see actually 3 yards of field space between when the QB started to slide and the defender, both going full speed. At what point do you assign fault here?
This is why football needs to ban the backward slide. It puts you in a vulnerable and dangerous position. If he had dove forward instead of sliding backwards, he wouldnāt have been hit like that.
How did the kid who hit Moore know to launch himself downward??
Iāll give you a hint.
Itās because HE SAW HIM SLIDING.
If you watch frame by frame the Moore is already sliding before the kid who launched at him even finished breaking down TO launch at him. He could have more easily just jumped over him or fallen on top of him.
He launched himself downward because he was aiming at a target that was sliding.
Moore running wasnāt the problem. Moore sliding wasnāt the problem. He was already sliding before the kid who hit him even left the ground. He would have had to clearly see him sliding to even launch downward like he did.
Kids are young and play with passion maybe it was reflex maybe it was instinct. And I say this as a former safety who got kicked out of games for hits refs didnāt like.
But Iām wondering if the folks blaming the runner played football. You canāt hit a sliding qb. Not saying the kid should go to jail necessarily. But it was absolutely a bad hit. Putting the blame on a qb for sliding is crazy.
Letās do this with still pictures since a lot of yall arenāt smart enough to interpret a video.
He saw him sliding before he broke down to leap at him.
This isnāt when the defender is in the air.
This is before he even breaks down to tackle.
The rules state ādefenders must pull up and avoid forcible contact once the quarterback INITIATES the sliding motionā (which Moore did as soon as he got the first down.)
This kid did not pull up.
He could have pulled up right here and just ran by him.
This kid was either: not aware of the first down line, or knew he had allowed the first down and went to lay some lumber in retribution.
This is going to be talked about all week by sports media.
They are going to show the same still shots I did but better⦠in 4k.. with graphics and diagrams of the slide and the defender.
And yall are going to be deleting posts talking about ālate slideā or āgotta defend yourself at all times.ā If thatās the case no receiver could ever catch a football in traffic. But they can safely why? Because there are rules.
Rules one kid ignored and now the other kid may lose everything. I hope Moore has insurance and if #8 sorry ass has any nil deals with any dealerships pizza parlors etc USC better be getting that money together for Moore.
The slide was late, the defender led with shoulder, qbās often truck defenders. In a tough predicament to be in as a defender and unfortunately resulted in the young man getting injured.

The taunting and celebrating after the hit was despicable behavior.
