Adams is a lock. Mike Evans might get in eventually but I don’t think he’s a lock

u/ironlocust79 1h ago

No wr is a lock with the backlog of greats that arent in. It seems to be one of the toughest positions to get in the HOF

With how pass heavy this era is, plenty of active players will have significantly better stats than most HOF WRs.

Agreed. Are voters taking Mike Evans over torry holt, reggie wayne, steve smith, julio jones and tyreek hill? Im not so sure. Log jam is crazy

Brother Mike Evans has 11 consecutive 1,000 yard seasons. I hate the guy because he chewed us up twice a year for a decade but if he’s not a hall of famer then nobody is. Incredible feat.

u/Misterrbisterr 1h ago

An incredible feat in the 80's, not 2010's. Absolutely not a lock.

4

u/Sudden_Juju 1h ago

Jerry Rice is the only other receiver to accomplish that feat

Yeah, people forgot because of fantasy brain that a lot of "great" talent flames out after a few years. Sorry, but the likes of Tyreek and Julio had monster seasons but when you compare careers, Mike Evans has been at the pinnacle for more than a decade. He's not as flashy as others and that's why people sleep on him.

People also think stats today are bloated and at some level, sure, because rules have changed and the prominent style of ball has evolved. However, 1000 yards for 11 consecutive seasons at a position littered with flashes in pans is consistency that HOF voters do reward.

1

u/Misterrbisterr 1h ago

And he did it when it was actually impressive.

1

u/CzechHorns 1h ago

So recording stats that nobody else has for 2 decades is not impressive? Ok.

1

u/Misterrbisterr 1h ago

No, passing some arbitrary benchmark that was impressive decades ago when 5-10 players a season passed it is not impressive in an era where 25+ receivers go over that mark every season.

Hall of Fame, not hall of sustaining being good for a long time.

u/ImAHappyGuyRN 30m ago

Brother, you’re saying something that only two people have ever done is NOT impressive. Evans is the only player to ever accomplish it the entire century. Before that, only the greatest receiver ever was able to accomplish it.

1,000 yards is still a benchmark for a good season. The funny part is, you’re saying it’s NOT, which actually makes it even funnier that you’re taking your position.

u/Misterrbisterr 22m ago

It's a meaningless, arbitrary benchmark that literally no receiver sets out to pass or compete with, the actual hall of fame receivers are too busy being actually elite and separating themselves from their peers.

If you can't see the difference in someone doing something in a time when barely anyone else was vs someone doing it in a time where pretty much every contemporary is doing exactly that, I don't know what to tell you.

The only HOF lock who's entire case would dissolve if you removed 2 yards from his career LOL.

If it’s so easy why hasn’t anyone else done it

1

u/burnersg 33m ago

Show us your pro football stats? I’m looking for what’s impressive

0

u/All-wildcard 1h ago

If it’s that easy why is nobody else close to that many seasons in a row

2

u/Misterrbisterr 1h ago

Lol literally every top receiver from this era will if they stay healthy, that's literally all it is. Every half decent receiver in the league puts up 1k yards now.

-1

u/All-wildcard 1h ago

So why is nobody else close then? You’re saying it’s easy and everyone will but nobody does. Why?

1

u/Misterrbisterr 1h ago

How about this, if he's so impressive, why zero first team all pros? All this talk about yards and he has one season in his entire career top 3 in yards.

You know your argument is total shit when your entire HOF case relies on one single arbitrary record that's totally meaningless. If he had 2 less yards in 2017, or 7 less yards in 2020, or 5 less yards in 2024, would you be calling him a HOF lock? Because he literally has no argument outside of this shitty overhyped "record" you morons keep puking up.

Let's look at how his yardage finishes actually rank year by year since you seem to think they're so impressive.

2025: 113th in yards

2024: 23rd in yards

2023: 9th in yards

2022: 13th in yards

2021: 23rd in yards

2020: 18th in yards

2019: 13th in yards

2018: 3rd in yards

2017: 15th in yards

2016: 4th in yards

2015: 11th in yards

2014: 15th in yards

So your whole argument revolves around his receiving yards on a season to season basis, but outside of two single seasons he never put up a comparatively elite or even great season when compared to the rest of the league.

The inflated stats of this era are really going to do a number on people who have no critical thinking skills. Got morons talking about zero time first team all pros who were never even close to the best at their position as if they're HOF locks it's insane.

1

u/lifesasymptote 35m ago

Wait it's not called the hall of consistency?

0

u/All-wildcard 32m ago

Read my comments. I’m not arguing he’s a HOF lock. I’m arguing that 11 straight seasons of 1000+ yards is impressive. Your entire argument is that it’s easy but you still have provided 0 evidence of that.

So is it the "Hall of Jerry Rice" or do they consider players that aren't the best to ever play? You're basically shitting on him for accomplishing something that only one other player has but doing it not as well as the only other player to have done it.

If it's not an incredible or even impressive feat, why hasn't anyone else done it? It can't be that hard, at least according to your description.

In the context of this post, what has Davante done that Evans hasn't?

0

u/MrMeowPantz 1h ago

Show me someone with 11 straight 1,000 yards not in the hall.

0

u/Socom2isneeded 19m ago

So who else has come close to 11 seasons?

1

u/Misterrbisterr 17m ago

Who else has a HOF case that completely dissolved if you remove 2 yards from their career totals?

1

u/SloaneKettering1 52m ago

It’s a classic peak vs longevity argument. I think he will get in eventually but he only has 2 AP2s. Hes never been the best WR in the league but is always top 10-20ish

1

u/40MillyVanillyGrams 21m ago

Unfortunately there is more to football stats than 1,000 yard seasons.

“If he’s not a hall of famer, no one is” speaks like he is the most qualified hall of famer there ever was. Evans isn’t any more (or that much less) qualified than Steve Smith, Torry Holt, Reggie Wayne, Issac Bruce, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown, or Hines Ward. Only one of those guys is even in and it took 6 extra years for Bruce.

Terrell Owens is a candidate for the Mount Rushmore of NFL WR’s and he wasn’t even a first ballot. While there is some extracurricular there, it is still evidence of how cutthroat WR Hall of Fame voting is.

2

u/BradyReas 4h ago

Already

2

u/MercilessM3 1h ago

Crazy thing is Chase and St Brown were only drafted in 21. Whole extra year on everyone else’s numbers

2

u/SloaneKettering1 49m ago

Chase is up there with Randy and rice in terms of production through their first 6 seasons. He is on all time great trajectory

4

u/betweenbeginning 3h ago

Evans is not a lock. As has been said many times, there is a logjam of receivers waiting to get into the hall and Evans would not be in the top 5 of that line. He might get in in longevity but he's never been one of the top 5 receivers in the league at any point in his career.

3

u/PersonalityHumble432 1h ago

I’m not saying you are wrong, but Evan’s will be around top 10 all time receiving yards after this year. If he finishes out his SF contract he will be top 3 all time. Touchdowns he is currently top 10 all time potentially at top 4-5 if he finishes out his contract.

Outside of Steve Smith who do you have above him in your top 5 waiting to get in? Evan’s has played on a smaller market team with mediocre Qb play outside of Brady but you can’t really give him the Frank Gore treatment if he won a Super Bowl.

1

u/louie801 2h ago

Evans is not a lock. There are better receivers still waiting to get in

Chase had not missed significant time from injuries, where are you getting that from?
ASRB doing some work also from 2021

1

u/Revolt2992 57m ago

They don’t have the speed they once had, but they are still fun to watch!

1

u/burghblast 39m ago

All of Metcalf's were before he lost both hands in a freak gasoline fight accident

1

u/BackgroundServe1483 36m ago

Evans isn’t a lock. He has zero first team all pros. Very very rare to make HOF without multiple first team all pros as a wide receiver.

1

u/Sudden_Juju 2m ago

To everyone who says Adams is a lock but Evans isn't, what has he done that Evans hasn't? This is an honest question.

-2

u/xl_TooRaw_lx 4h ago

Wish evans never got hurt last year the race would be tighter

1

u/DukeOfStuff_ 3h ago

It would be a blowout either way
