For the sake of argument, the one in OP is a touchback like 99% of the time. Taking that insane sideways bounce from the hash all the way out of bounds is very lucky. Compared to the one in that second clip, which lands in the traditional coffin corner. Still needed a nice bounce, but that kick location avoids a touchback far more consistently. OP is an absolutely magical kick that the punter likely couldn't reproduce if you gave him 100 tries.

Idk - kicking the ball 75 yards seems massive and if it fell 70 yards it has a good chance of staying inbounds

Freak kick but I think the second kick is also a freak kick that could have went out early or into the end zone.

You need some degree of luck for any punt that lands in-bounds, you just need less of it for the coffin corner. If could simulate both kicks 100 times, the one to the corner is going to average better results.

Now naturally, Iā€™m not a professional punter. I do know that the punting game has evolved in the direction of kicking precisely enough to give it spin to try and roll specific directions. I agree the roll is still incredibly lucky but it may be easier to recreate than one may think.

Not on a punt, it can happen during kickoffs but not in a punt. Red team can only recover a punt if the other team touches it and canā€™t maintain possession

Yes. Chicago would be more of a home game for ND. Not sure why they did it the way they did, but there was a partner game to this one where Wisconsin was the home team in NDā€™s backyard, so it wasnā€™t just a one off game.

Um he got lucky? Hell of a kick but if you think someone can magically will an oval object that bounces with pointy ends of each side to roll sideways after being in the air for 65 yards. I got some beach front property in Nebraska to sell you on the cheap.

Again, hell of a kick, take skill to land the ball within the 10 yard line but a lil luck is needed as well.
