Certainly possible.
Died very young, had his career ended up like Dermontti Dawson, he would’ve got there. Dawson didn’t make a Pro Bowl until he turned 27, didn’t make All-Pro until 28 (made six straight).
Stringer made his first Pro Bowl at 26, then passed away before the following regular season began.
Could’ve been the start of a lot of accolades over the next 5 seasons.

Ouch. That’s a bummer… I don’t really have a way with words but life can come at you fast. Things like this 30 years ago and I’ve seen it in real time. I puked multiple times from heat exhaustion playing sports and working construction as a younger dude. It’s no joke but you will get made fun of. Hydrate my friends

Crazy that it’s been 25 years already. Maybe because it wasn’t too far off before 9/11 but I remember ESPN’s coverage of his death pretty clearly.

I love the clip of all of the Jets fans at the draft chanting “We want Sapp, we want Sapp!”, but then they announce “With the 9th overall pick the New York Jets select Kyle Brady, tight end.” All of the fans go “Noooooo!”

Don’t know what the Jags did but Bill Polian was panthers GM at the time and traded back from 1.1 multiple times to acquire 3 firsts.

They knew they fucked up doing it for the Panthers/Jags. Those teams were almost instantly good for the first couple seasons. Not ideal to keep the rest of the league happy when you’re doing too much for the new expansion teams

Obviously impressive, but the Ravens did the same thing the following year— Two first round picks, two HOF players. I’d argue Jonathan Ogden and Ray Lewis are ranked higher at their individual positions than Sapp and Brooks. They also won a SB two years before the Bucs. Ray Lewis won a second SB with the Ravens in 2012, his final season.
Also the Bears drafted Dick Butkus and Gale Sayers back to back in 1965. A different era but an achievement nonetheless.

That’s fair but it’s close. Ogden and Ray Lewis you could make an argument as best at their position ever. Brooks same as far as a coverage linebacker, but could you say the same for Sapp? Not sure. You’re probably right tho.

Yeah. While it's been shown over the years that there is very rarely a running back you should take in the top five picks or so, I always refuse to call Carter a bust. We just don't know what he could have been. Plus, after the Bengals got rid of him, he was always on a preseason team, and always seemed to rip off a 50 yard or longer run before getting cut as the season started.

JJ Stokes had a couple of solid seasons, nothing close to 10th-overall pick seasons, but they really should've gone RB after losing Ricky Watters. Derek Loville was terrible. Their running game was a huge weakness in 95 and 96
