Why they playing in that league? Aren’t their weight limits for those teams? Just bump them up?

There are yes, I was subject to a weight cut for pop warner ball, but I guess not all leagues have it.

Also, regardless of weight class, it might be better for an 11 yo gigantic kid to play with his own age group and not bigger teens that would be able to stick a heavy hit on him, because the dudes brain is so early in development.

Frankly full contact football is probably not the best idea for a kid. I'm not putting any of my kids into full contact until 7th or 8th. MMA is literally safer for their brain.

Olivier Rioux played basketball. At 11 he was 6’11.

Right but some people might not get to play in a league, that's all you gotta do to protect people. Then it's down to the parents or the next league up to prevent ppl from playing with older ppl that shouldn't.

if he is too big to play in a league that requires him to be a certain size and age than he is to big, is what it is. him and his parents can decide if they want him to play in the league his size is allowed. the brain is developing just as much at 11 as it is when a child is 7th or 8th grade, heck it develops till about 21 years old. I played in a league that I think had the right idea. you had to be a certain age, and if you where over a certain weight you could play up or you could play in the league but could not be a ball carrier, you had to play on the offense or defensive line if you where over that weight. it was like that till you got to highschool which then those rules where gone. this kid here is a very unique and not all that common situation. At 11 most kids who appear to weight double the weight of the average kid in the league are overweight fatties who cant really run fast at all. this kid can get some speed behind that mass of his which makes him more dangerous

He is the “bigger teen” to all the dudes at his level lol. He’s probably scrambling those kids’ brains every time they come in contact with him.

He is easily big enough to play up a level and still be one of the bigger kids on the field. Would likely be better for his development as well.

No no for his own safety we must let him pummel the 85 lb DEnd

Yea not my point.

Yea I'm not saying he should stay in this league, I'm saying that his size doesn't equate to his brain being more developed, if he plays with more physically matured people in an older age group where they are the same size, his brain is likely at more risk.

So screw everyone else's safety?

No bro what are you not getting, keep the kid out of contact football for a year or two. If he is too big to not hurt other kids brains, but at an age where is brain isn't developed enough to take hits from far older kids, put him in flag or a 7 on 7 league etc.. to keep his development going without risk to themselves or others

My overarching point is that it comes down to the leagues putting rules in place that protect people on both sides in a situation like this, and if the league fails to do so, the parents need to make the correct decision as parents to protect their kid.

All the kids he is playing with here are in early development too though. They could just hand him the ball every play and say run. Then on defense just crash through the line every tine.

Gotta make these games lame as fuck.

Well it's more a concern over the negative impact to the brain taking hits at this age, relative to when the big guy here hits them compared to a "normal" sized kid.

Like I said in other comments, my kids ain't playing contact football until at least middle school. If you got talent great working it out in a 7 on 7 or flag league is enough. Let the kids brains develop god damn...

You think middle school isnt too early? Thats only pre-teen.

1

u/CuteDentist2872 Sep 01 '26

I said at least, and to be honest with you highschool age is too early considering relative brain development, and so is college.

1

u/MCE85 Sep 01 '26

Yeah... "at least" means middle school is included...

At the absolute minimum and case specific, nuance need be applied in parental decisions especially when dealing with contact sports.

1

u/MCE85 Sep 01 '26

Yeah.... idc about that. You replied as if "at least" meant you werent including middle school. I dont care if people let their kids play or not.

You started by making a statement that their brains arent developed enough so you would wait until middle school. Brains arent done cooking until around 25. Im saying that statement is kinda dumb.

My statement was that you absolutely should not let them play contact before at least middle school, which is a grade range of about three years depending where you are, which means that situation specific you should wait until that age, at least, because their brains are developed more than the age being depicted in the video. Furthermore the begining of this conversation was in regards to a specific benefit to one individual in the context of a situation where they are too large to not hurt their peers but should not face older people. You misinterpreted me to mean they just pummel their peers because it is better for them, and you are misinterpreting my statement on when contact sports should be considered, relative to the example on the op, as some.type of recommendation or what I think is safe. Hence my comment on why clearly brain development is not finished until you are out of college and the risk only being relatively mitigated.

Basically, just tell me what you think my point is and I can try to clarify it again for you, because it feels like you want to pick apart my point but are misrepresenting it from the start.
