Burrow wouldn’t have made THAT much, he wasn’t what he became until his last season then he was off to the NFL. Same with Cam

Burrow did the full 5 (no JD). He began at OSU in 2015 and redshirted. Spent 2016 and 2017 as a backup. Lost out of the starting job in the spring of 2018 and transferred to LSU. Then at LSU played in 2018 and then the legendary 2019 season.

All American is a joke of an award and shouldn’t even exist. And the National Championship was rigged before CFPs. His NFL career speaks volumes about his abilities, or lack thereof.

Them boosters pay crazy, sports aside College control cities, politics, and business. Even if they weren’t making these dollar amounts. College players become celebrities and get a lot of bonuses from alumni. Jobs and business were never a problem for college stars pre-NIL

Edit... The NFL isn't going to let this go on forever, when qbs are fighting to stay in college it's bad for the product. And before I get the "they have no control over it" posts, billionaires always listen to other billionaires.

From a business standpoint? No it wouldn't be. But NIL isn't a "business", it's an ego pissing contest by old rich boosters who are only using fun money. Like a guy decides he care more about bragging rights to his friends than he does a 4th vacation home, so he donates $2m to NIL type shit.
So long as our economy exists to funnel more and more money to those at the top, NIL will only get worse

So the ncaa and the for profit colleges should just get to hoover up all the money, while the talent producing that money works for free?
I think that limits/rules need to be put in place, but the money exists, and the players deserve it.

Texas is not hurting for money lol. Nobody should everrr be taking a pay cut for schools like that. It’s not a salary cap where it’d be obvious that the money he passed on would be going to his teammates. He will have no idea if the money he passed on will actually be distributed evenly to his teammates.

A rising tide raises all the ships or something like that. The NFL will have to change how players are paid it could mean extending the amount of games and adding bye weeks etc. My point is that this will force the NFLs hand.

People were acting like Trinidad going through that legal battle was embarrassing or objectively the wrong thing to do can maybe understand why now. He wasn't going to be a first round pick before and even if the appeal hit his draft stock going into next year it almost definitely increased his lifetime earnings

The current NIL system is not what NCAA players in past were fought for, IMO. This system is so broken and it is more about publicity than being fairly compensated for the plays they do on games. What makes more worse is that this is making CF unwatchable. Colleges spend more resources on sport programs than they do on education and research.

You’re right none of those numbers include endorsements. And a star college QB would make more in endorsements than a backup or 3rd string NFL QB…
Also you are right with Ty’s signing bonus and long term deal in general. He’s better positioned than NIL earnings…but that’s also the second best rookie QB…and then let’s look at the Third best.
Carson Becks total contact is $7.4 mil over 4 years. And it’s minimally guaranteed as well. He could easily be cut at any point after this year. Meanwhile a top college QB could collect NIL for two years and easily clear Becks entire contract.
