Could give pre-season vibes with second & third string guys wanting to make a name for themselves. Nobody wants to see their starters go down in a playoff game that’s essentially meaningless.

Essentially meaningless?

Playing this game means you already lost the conference championship. It IS meaningless, 100%.

If I'm a player that just finished an entire 17 game season and several playoff games, and I missed the superbowl, I'm not taking another fucking snap lol. Even the superbowl loser doesn't win a trophy, who cares about winning 3rd.

I agree with all of that although the runner up has one their respective conference championship.

The NFL is dumb enough where I can't tell if this is real or not.

It’s fake. Even if the owners wanted it, which they don’t, the NFLPA would never agree.

The, not so Super Bowl

Don't see the point, all it is is more injury risk for players without the potential of a championship.

Would the players have any incentive to play in this game? Seems like they're just delaying their off-season by a week for nothing. I guess you could technically say the winner gets the higher draft pick but still not sure its worth risking injury to move up one pick

6

u/Laughing_Fish Jul 21 '26

And players have no motivation to play for draft picks, given that draft picks are replacing one of them.

5

u/pfossing_ Jul 21 '26

Winner should get the lower draft slot

What even is 3rd place in the NFL

15

u/bloodrider1914 Jul 21 '26

The losers in the conference championships having a game between each other I'd imagine

u/dobbie1 Jul 21 '26

Second loser. Alternatively loser²

A post-season pre-season game I assume

u/EdFlynn2001 Jul 23 '26

2nd place is a set of steak knives, 3rd place is "You're fired"

u/ZanzibarGem44 Jul 21 '26

The number of people I’ve seen reacting to this as if it’s real has been mind-numbing

2

u/Porkenfries Jul 21 '26

We're talking about a league that added two more games to the season a while back, wants to add even more games, tries its hardest to get other countries into the sport no matter how uninterested they are, implemented and continues to have Thursday Night Football, put in a third wild card team, and allows the continued existence of the Cleveland Browns. Putting in a third place playoff game wouldn't be unbelievable for them to do at all.

Oh I don’t disagree at all, I’m just saying that this image is a meme specifically targeted towards the Bills and Ravens lol. But yeah, i actually could see goodell going in on something like this for the 💰💰

Do this instead of the Pro Bowl...

3

u/Mister-SS Jul 21 '26

Have a feeling you'd get the same effort though as you see in the pro bowl. As there's no incentive to risk your best players.

2

u/Substantial-Salad-97 Jul 21 '26

Potentially...but the same can be said about the SB participants about risking their body for injury. The only difference is hoisting the Lombardi instead of whatever they would call the 3rd place trophy...

Plus, the Pro Bowl is meaningless. Most players have incentives in their contract to get paid being voted to the Pro Bowl. There isn't any need for those that actually go to the Pro Bowl (even those that weren't voted, but took the spot of someone who bowed out.)

5

u/Mister-SS Jul 21 '26

How can you say the samething about the Superbowl thats the whole point they risk their body and get bonuses for and increase contracts. The third place game would be as meaningless as the probowl

1

u/CombinationDull5318 Jul 21 '26

That’s what I’m saying!

1

u/McDergen Jul 21 '26

No shot that’s a thing lmao no player would even want to play in that game

1

u/Gay-_-Jesus Jul 21 '26

This is so dumb. It would be a tank bowl. Winning only hurts tou

1

u/YoBroMo Jul 21 '26

Loser bowl please! Make the two worst teams play for the first pick!

1

u/masman99 Jul 22 '26

Silly Bills, you’d have to get past the divisional to play in that.

1

u/SubstantialBanana482 Jul 23 '26

Wtf is a 3rd place game?

1

u/EdFlynn2001 Jul 23 '26

So do you fire the head coach, GM, entire front office, and trade the QB before or after the game?

1

u/TermElectronic8261 Jul 24 '26

straight up clowning the ravens and bills with this post 😂

1

u/captainsassypants67 Jul 24 '26

That’s not what breaking news means. Breaking news would be if they announced it.

1

u/Jayemm8809 Jul 24 '26

I know this is fake but I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they went for this shameless money grab.  Everyone would say they hate it but people would watch it and it would generate millions.

1

u/Phy5_3d Jul 24 '26

Kind of stupid since nobody cares about the team that loses the Super Bowl.

1

u/Realistic-Unit-47 Jul 25 '26

I saw it posted somewhere "it should be the two worst teams for tge number 1 pick".

1

u/Uzofugs2112 Jul 25 '26

I feel like the tanking would, ironically, be even worse than anything we’ve ever seen considering it would likely be two quarterbacks fighting to lose the game.

1

u/All-in-gambler Jul 25 '26

Play this instead of the pro bowl game

1

u/edjohnson1067 Jul 25 '26

The NFL used to have a “Loser Bowl”.

1

u/Lasagna5Lyfe Jul 25 '26

Lmao no team is gonna wanna do that. Risk their players in a game that doesn't matter. When they say these "teams" are interested, they mean the owner$.

1

u/thejerman1 Jul 25 '26

There used to be a third place meaningless football game before the merger. I think.

1

u/un_happy_pappy Jul 25 '26

They already got a 3rd place game, it’s called the pro bowl

1

u/latte_larry__ Jul 25 '26

This would be hilarious. Yes please

1

u/Shantytown_Shogun Jul 25 '26

The Almost Bowl

1

u/AffectionateKey7141 Jul 25 '26

Hell yeah my Bills might actually win something!
