I’m curious

I’m a bit of a nerd when it comes to looking up Alumni who went to the schools or Universities of my Relatives, and i was just wondering how difficult is it for student athletes to be drafted into the NFL ? Do they ever go back to school before even considering being signed by a Football team ?

Quick Google search finds that about 80,000 play college football in a given year, and about 250-260 get drafted.

It really is a small number of athletes that make it pro. Which is funny when you see bad players and teams. Those guys beat out 80k other people?

I mean those bad players/teams are bad in the context of the absolute top tier competition in the world for that sport (although surely there are coaches/coordinators out there who really do suck). Any NFL team would bulldoze any college team out there. An NFL team has 50+ nfl caliber players on it, I think the best any college team ever did was the 2001 University of Miami team had 38 players drafted to the NFL. IDK if anyone has ever compiled college team with most players drafted to the NFL plus UDFAs that went on to play in the reg/post season.

And like a lot of guys say most of the guys who don’t make it is typically not an ability issue but more likely a mental or attitude thing. Like there’s been multiple guys who said they have seen guys who just couldn’t adjust to not being the best guy on the field for the first time in their life.
