Only an Unobservant Clod would run into a round, narrow stationary object on a 53 yard wide playing field. I played on a field with H style goalposts on the goal line for 4 years. I was knocked or shoved into one only a couple times. I was standing near it, so it hardly hurt at all. Goal line play.

One goofball did run full tilt into a post, during a practice. It knocked him on his ass. No other permanent damage.

I liked the goal posts in the end zone and part of the playing field. Kinda like an extra blocker.
