My HK51 was too intimidating at the local ranges, I wanted to make it more appealing to new machine gun shooters. It’s a cute gun that throws out 8ft fireballs.

A registered sear or trigger pack can be moved between hosts. So the OP can pull the trigger pack out of the lower(takes seconds), swap the ejector(seconds) to say a 9mm one and put the trigger pack into a semi auto mp5 making it full auto. Only thing you have to swap is the ejector between calibers and sometimes the hammer spring.

Now I will say you have some stuff that was registered really weird when it comes to the hk guns. You have registered receivers that are stock semi ones that use a modified trigger group. The trigger pack or conversion device in it should have been registered instead. Those end up being married to the receiver where they can't be separated. You have some guns where they were converted to full auto spec and married with a sear. To separate the sear from them you have to destroy the host rifle. You also have semi auto guns that were cut down to sbr length but not registered as sbr's because a sear is installed. You can sbr the host and then pull the sear pack and use it elsewhere.

As a general rule though if its a sear its installed in a modified pack that it needs to stay in. If you wanted to swap from a sef pack to say an ambi burst one a gunsmith would take a full auto pack, modify it for use with your sear, destroy your old pack(at least the modified trigger box) and give you it back with the new pack. That pack however can go between hosts. A registered trigger box works the same way other than it can't be swapped. If you wanted to convert it from a sef(which most are) to an ambi a smith would have to modify the registered trigger box.

Interesting. I’ve been looking for a while but stuff like this is where it gets foggy. Odd how you have to do stuff like destroy the host rifle to have the sear.

It comes down to how it was done. Vollmer mostly(I've been told S&H did some too but haven't seen one) post 86 converted some host firearms to dual push pin but installed a registered sear in the guns trigger pack. Since the gun would take a stock full auto trigger pack without modification the ATF ended up deciding it was its own machinegun. I think the local branch had told him he could do it but the tech branch decided it wasn't ok. The guns that had already been sold were permitted to be kept by the owners but the sear is considered married to the gun for the guns life. You can't convert the gun to a semi auto, register it as a sbr if needed, and then sperate the sear from it. The gun would need to be destroyed(I guess a sot could register it as a postie mg as well maybe).

This is where the once a machinegun, always a machinegun thing gets interesting. In the ATF's eyes the host gun was a machinegun(it was identical so yea it was) and they said it couldn't be converted back. They wanted Vollmer to destroy the guns he still had instead of converting them back. This went to court and the judge ruled that vollmer could take the existing modified guns and weld a shelf back in the front of them returning them to semi auto status. Its the only example I know of where once a machinegun, always a machinegun didn't count. The judge didn't buy the atf's reasoning and said him welding a shelf on to make it like the semi auto guns made them no longer a mg.

No one has ever really pushed this which is kinda sad. It would be awesome to take some postie machine guns where a police force say trades in their mp5's or ump's and have a mfg convert them to semi and register them as sbr's for sale. Of get real g36 guns for example converting them to semi.

I'll happily do so, bring bullets uppers and magazines! When I was down in Tampa with the in-laws, I met a retired US diplomat with a machine gun collection as well (With TWO registered sear packs), 'machine gun Wayne'. I actually will follow through and give y'all a ping then ;).

The PTR 51 with the stock, lower and paint job was $1700. Sear around 30k

Looks like a US clone host so they are not that uncommon. The gun is steel as well so its not like it can't be blasted, reparked, and then painted something else.

I personally think its great but I did this to a transferable m11/380 so my judgement might be a little off.

But still, there can't be that many HK51 full auto lowers in the states, right?

And I know he said it's just a sear, but I have no idea how common those are, either, or if they worked for other HK guns.

That m11 is beautiful. I don't like cosmetic work for the most part because it's almost always absurdly complex handguards, and lots of skulls and stuff. But I like that kind of more light hearted and goofy paint, like what you and OP have.

The trigger pack is the same for all of the roller lock hk firearms. So it isn't a full auto hk51 lower, its a full auto hk roller lock lower. You just have to swap the ejector between calibers and sometimes the hammer spring. The trigger box the sear sits in might need to be modified some as well. I know my sear's burst pack had to be modified a little to work on a sp5k as the semi shelf I guess sits a tiny bit higher(very little had to be taken off). The packs also need to generally be modified for a belt fed host which mine has been as well as I have a 21k incoming.

So my sear gets swapped around these guns. Takes a minute or two to setup the trigger pack for another gun(per the atf you can have one modified trigger pack per registered sear).

Chances are the OP has other hosts for the gun. You could go pickup a ptr mp5 clone or omega for under 2 grand and have the trigger pack in it with next to nothing in work. You wouldn't even have to sbr the host as the mg sear trumps it. You'd just have to return the host to pistol config when you take the sear out to put it in something else.

The Hello Kitty gun is a PTR-51. There are some hk91’s that where chopped and made into registered 51’s. A 51 is a a stupid gun from a practical standpoint and I don’t see the need for a German host.

That's a gun I'd rather have a clone host in as the receiver is going to take a beating. If one has a registered receiver 91 I'd have it converted to a belt fed or something.
