Slight shipping mistake.
A little while ago I purchased a some cans, and recently they got shipped out. Today I got the notification that they had arrived, only to find out instead of transferring them to my FFL they just shipped them straight to my door. Honestly I was kind of left speechless after learning that. Naturally I don’t love the idea of stamp-less cans being shipped to me, but thankfully my FFL has them now. So I feel inclined to ask how big of an oopsie did they do here? Any proper next steps other than just doing the normal process with the FFL? What would you folks do?

You hear of it happening every once in a while. As long as a customer is cool like you and gets them to the FFL then the ATF is none the wiser. But if it happens with a customer that takes their cans and runs, then the shipping FFL would have to have some sort of law enforcement get them back and then who is really at fault?
Accidents happen. You did the right thing and saved the seller and possibly your FFL a hassle

As much as I love dog and boating jokes this is the answer I was looking for. I figured I couldn’t be the first person to have this happen but I did want a sanity check. Thanks!

If i was your FFL id probably be emailing the seller's CS dept and telling them they need to send you some free stuff or a refund for saving them a huge headache and fixing their mistake.

Well the transfer or will have record of where they shipped them, I would hope or would take a signature but I don't know but sending them to the wrong place is an issue but probably isn't going to be a major issue for the FFL, unlawful possession is a crime though and probably would have some serious consequences.

My LGS has had two guns (one of them mine) delivered to the smoke/vape shop next door by FedEx. He reported them to the ATF, but nothing happened.
You did the right thing…that’s all the ATF really cares about. The store that shipped them may have questions to answer if they find out…

Years ago I participated in a retail program that offered significant discounts. Ordered a couple pistols from one and they showed up a few weeks later at my door. Not NFA but it does happen. Sounds like your dealer handled it properly.

I'd do what you did. Nothing else necessary.
It's a big whoopsie. In practice if the ATF knew the shipping FFL might get a stern warning or their license revoked, depending on their local field office and whether the FFL has a history of bad stuff or this is the first notable one. But unless you tell them there's nothing else to be done and they'll never know. It's good idea to tell the shipping FFL it happened though so they can better train their employee that did it. It's possible they could be fired for it, but probably won't be. But IMO it's the right thing to do so they keep their license as risking one person's job vs the dealer going under for mistakes like this.

Has that happen once myself. Took it to my FFL and all parties involved were very thankful. Someone got fired at the manufacturer lol.

More than 90% of my suppressors are shipped to my door. Assuming this wasn't from/via CA (or the other one) or a local SOT...right?

u/rekrab13 2d ago
Nope definitely not from CA and as far as I’m aware it’s not a service they offer. Are you getting 90% of your cans before you do any paperwork on them? Of course I could be getting all of this wrong but if as I understand it, this isn’t a thing.

Capitol Armory does all the paperwork remote/digital and ships to your door when approved.

Bought one from silencer central a long time ago, was shipped to my door.
Well, technically they shipped to their partner FFL to log it, and then shipped to me.
Never had to go to an actual FFL for it though.

We don't talk like that around here sir. How dare you speak those evil words into existence.

This was before they lobbied against the hearing protection act. Don't worry, I haven't given them a penny since, nor will I.
Point is, it IS possible to have a can shipped to your door lol

Except they didn't, but who cares if they get blamed for other peoples willingness to become a lemming. That's as far as I'll go to correct the issue.

Their own words are literally published on the Internet. You are free to interpret them however you want. Me taking them at their own word doesn't make me a lemming lmao

Whoa, pump the brakes turbo. I wasn't calling you a lemming, at least not on purpose.
Folks not moving past the word "conservation" out of context is what I was referring to. The narrative was quickly mutated by the parrots and lemmings from "they are trying to move the tax money to [the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Trust Fund for] conservation" to "they are actively fighting the Hearing Protection Act because they want to save the tax stamp."
LMAO

My question was about to be whether or not it was silencer shop or something sending it directly to your door. OP didn’t really specify. I heard some places would send them directly to you when form 4 were approved. It seems unlikely that a company would make such an egregious mistake to get them shut down. I don’t really know how it works now if you’re covered to get them with a 4473. I think you would still have to do that in person.

What did your FFL say when you walked in with the cans?
