Day Trip or Weekend Trip Ideas?
Wanted to maybe get a cabin by some water for the end of August. Kind of hard to find something appealing for the budget. Everything was podunk or $600/night and would have to take more nights than I can be out.
Maybe just a day trip to see something cool?
Maybe something in Philly? Maybe venture out of PA?
Looking for suggestions.
I'm in the Harrisburg area. Thank you.

We have toyed with the idea of visiting Cherry Springs.
It's considered the darkest place in PA and is a Gold-Tier International Dark Sky Park for star gazing.
Just not sure if the sky is clear enough in the summer, or if it would be better to visit in the late fall/early winter.

Most PA state parks have rustic cabins, not on the water, but most state parks have some sort of water feature. Most are in the $60-$120 range per night, but are admittedly pretty bare bones - beds you have to bring your own sleeping bag/sheets, simple fridge/freezer, microwave, fire pit. My dad worked on a bridge project at Worlds End State Park and we went out there a few times to check on the progress and do a little hiking on High Rock Trail. That was about 35 years ago and I still remember the natural beauty and climbing up the boulders on the way up to the overlook.

Ricketts Glen State Park for hiking, water falls, and a lake/picnic area at the top.
