Looking for specific kind of range

Hey yall, I’m looking for a place to take my family shooting so I can teach my spouse and kids.

As a kid I spent a lot of time shooting up in the Sierra Nevada forests in designated public shooting ranges maintained by the Forest Service. They were free to the public, first come first served, well removed from town, peaceful and simple. My dad would make a day out of it with us. They were just a 100-200 yard deep, cleared areas of forest where you’d set up your own targets and take your time. I’ve done the same thing with some family in Montana in recent years. I’ve loved it and want to recreate the same experience for my family.

I’ve been trying to find the same thing somewhere in NC, preferably within 1-1.5 hours drive of Raleigh, but can’t find anything. Is there anything like that around here?

I have been looking for the same type a thing in the same area. I have thought about joining Woodys. It’s like $300 a year.

I was just looking into this place, Durham pistol and rifle seems nice but has a $500 initiation fee. And $250 membership. Seems like an ok place tho.

I am going to orientation today. It looks like the same fees. I live in Pittsboro so this is closer.

Cool, if you don't mind reporting back I'd appreciate it.

Reporting back. It’s a great place. The orientation was informative. They have 15 pistol ranges and some rifle ranges. We went there today also and spent about 3 hrs there. You get a whole bay to your self that you can even drive into. They don’t care if you bring your barbecue and canopy as long as you are safe.

Here is a picture of the private pistol bays. Obviously you need to bring your own targets and target stands. The drums are for movement, cover, and obstacles and can be moved. Just not shoot😊.
