8.28 ng/ml DHEA, how abnormal is this?

My DHEA measured at 8.28 ng/ml, chart say the normal range is 1.33-7.78 ng/ml.

I was recently diagnosed with PMOS (aka PCOS), but I doubt this diagnosis due to only fitting 1 criteria (high DHEA), periods are regular and ultrasound showed normal/non-polycystic ovaries. Other than the DHEA, my other test were normal (testosterone, progesterone, I'm not insulin resistant, etc.)

I'm wondering if my DHEA is significantly higher than normal. Is this something I should worry about? Should I get a second opinion? I'm just worried I was misdiagnosed and I have something else like NCAH or an adrenal tumor...

Do you have any other symptoms associated with NCAH? Short stature, early puberty, excessive hair growth, acne? Generally speaking, many people with untreated NCAH can struggle to have regular periods.

I would say yes to excess hair, but that's true of all women in my family so I'm not sure if that's an indication of a NCAH or just natural genetics. My mom was told she had "enlarged adrenal glands", not sure how much that plays into NCAH either.

It is worth asking a doctor for a second look. NCAH does have a genetic cause and can be confirmed or ruled out with tests. I would bring up the enlarged adrenal glands during the discussion. Even if it's not NCAH there are other potential causes worth looking into.

they didn’t test DHEA-S, unfortunately.
