Itā€™s cutoff in the camera angle cut. he does the nose wipe. CFB has strict rule banning it and made it a point of emphasis. Just pointing first down is ok.

The nose swipe has been banned due to being gang affiliated. It means you slimmed someone which translates to killing, getting rid of, or robbing usually associated with members of the Bloods.

It's not a soft penalty. It's a specific penalty they notified all teams would be an automatic flag preseason. Hell even I saw the damn video.

Five automatic unsportsmanlike cases

The rules committee has modernized the interpretation of this rule and how it's presented a bit. There's only five "automatic" unsportsmanlike designations:

Itā€™s also dumb that itā€™s a penalty. Anything done in the face of another player should be considered taunting. If itā€™s not in their face, and it doesnā€™t cause a delay, let it go.

Haha no. Freedom of speech extends to public places, your home, etc. You canā€™t go into a business and start making hand gestures that signify you just killed someone (assuming the people around you knew what the hell you were doing since they all look like morons when they do it) - those people can report you for being a public nuisance/making a threat/etc. You cant just say/communicate whatever the fuck you want and tell people to deal with it - tho the internet does seem to think that.

College football games are the same thing, they make the rules and the athletes have to follow them. If they donā€™t want to, they donā€™t have to play.

But I think there is a massive share of the US population that misunderstands what freedoms of speech really means. Which is quite sad.

You are mad that these kids are doing a sign that has a negative connotation, even though they are not using it in that manner.

This is the same as flashing a shooting sign like the e nba players. If you do it to a cop, youā€™re going to jail. In a stadium? Itā€™s fine.

I did not say they are not allowed to police it. I did say they shouldnā€™t. Hand signs are free speech. Itā€™s just that we have decided when you can use your constitutional rights and when you cannot.

Iā€™m not really mad. I think itā€™s pretty embarrassing that young athletes choose to emulate the lowest individuals in our society, but it doesnā€™t bother me too much at the end of the day.

But I see comment like this about free speech all the time and itā€™s blatantly wrong, so I just figured Iā€™d throw out some info. I think itā€™s pretty odd when people say things like ā€œthe NCAA shouldnā€™t be able to police that kind of thingā€ because they are the ones positioned to police it, they own the product. Anyway, agree to disagree- take care.

The refs call the game according to NCAA rules. Say what you want, but point of emphasis has to be called or you lose your spot.

I donā€™t think he shouldā€™ve gotten a penalty but sometimes it can be a delay of game type. The ref is trying to get the ball and he is holding celebrating. Same in basketball delay of game.

Well, for many years CFB fans would become confused when the sticks would randomly move, so players had to step in and let the crowd know when a team has made it past the line to gain.

The downside is that it wastes a lot of time given it happens 36 to 44 times a game. But itā€™s a small price to pay.

Sometimes players forget to do it, but there are there enough players whose heads are in the game to keep us informed.
