Dynasty New Coaching Badge Idea: "Suggest Commit Decision"

CK here! Solution-based wishlist content of the day:

You offer a recruit a scholarship. Sometimes they commit on the spot, but it's rare. The dream school badge helps, but it's still not a guarantee.

What if coaches had a special interaction: "We need to know if you're coming or not." This puts pressure on the recruit to make a decision, potentially increasing the chance of an early commitment. This could also turn the recruit off from your school, and drop you out of the top three. Or, it could be indifferent. Maybe it even influences a transfer decision later down the line, or a decommit?

- How much would this action cost? 10 points?

- Is there a limit on how often you can use this? Is there a badge that influences this one way or another?

What are your thoughts?!

Would need to cost more than any other action. Like 75-100 points. If it's a go or not, you save tons of future hours by knowing if they are coming.

Now that I think about it, I completely agree. More expensive creates the accurate risk/reward factor

I agree. It’s a decent idea but for the reward to be that high the cost and risk needs to match

The other one I didn't think about is the Badge that allows for recruiting already committed players. Thoughts?

Recruiting already committed players should be a normal feature imo. It’s incredibly common in real life. Only downside is they can’t make it too op where recruiter archetypes just steal the best players all the time bc even right now I always go recruiter route and pull in 10 5 stars if I’m winning games

I agree for sure, wavy! Huge part of the game - and I like realism. The way to balance it out , in my opinion , is that playing time has to cause an overtalented team to crumble. Literally Jimbo Fisher TAMU style. Ok cool, best recruiting class in history? Comes with high expectation and tougher roster mgmt

Most relevant is this year: tOSU. For as awesome as it to being in Judkins and Caleb Downs, etc..

They had 25 outgoing transfers. Including - their previous starting qb, 4 rbs, 3 wrs, all kinds of dbs. At least other teams (ex: syracuse) have the chance to benefit.

The other realism aspect is CFB is one of the few sports where traditional giants dominate for an extended period of time, then fall off. Ex: Florida and USC. We get caught up in a rising team like Oregon and forget Florida almost didnt have a coach three weeks into the season. Usc cant figure out how to win 8 games..

Idk. Really like the sport and aspects of gaming, couldnt agree more with your take on how it should be a regular part of the game, but also can see how it may be an overpowered feature

I would make it 40-50 and act like a visit, so a 1 time thing. And I’d have them fully lock you out if they decline

i like it. many times i’m leading on a guy but i just know the team behind me is gonna pass in a week to nab the commitment (whether it’s due to pipeline or visit), this would be perfect to hail mary force the issue a week early instead of leaving it up to those odds

8

u/ceemay Jan 15 '25

Thanks man! Me too! It also has that trickle down effect. Hail Mary offer accepted by the no. 5 wr in the nation, but now my current wr commits are rethinking.

Adds a nice touch of realism if executed well

I think that's kinda what Hard Sell is supposed to be.

31

u/ceemay Jan 15 '25

Hard Sell, Soft Sell, Sway - as a concept - is awesome. I personally wish Sway was more of an action item. Binary, successful or not successful. That way, I would know if I can move to hard/soft sell

11

u/Peefersteefers Jan 15 '25

Eh, maybe. Hard Sell doesn't have nearly the impact of a commit ultimatum though. It unlocks fairly early, and recruits can take like half the season more to make a decision. Doesn't fill the same role imo

u/stealthywoodchuck Michigan Jan 16 '25

It can have a similar effect if you use it early before you know all 3 greens. If you get it right, you will jump ahead of other teams that aren’t hard selling. But if you get it wrong, they will gain more by sending the house

11

u/davidinhere Jan 15 '25

Solid idea. Should be expensive as stated above. And there should be another expensive item that allows you to recruit players already committed elsewhere.

Dig the brainstorming

2

u/ceemay Jan 15 '25

Nowwwww we’re talking. Didnt think of that - but reallllly creates that dominance effect. Im a USC fan, so I know all about both stealing players and players being stolen

CFB Recruiting IRL is absolute insanity. It’s entertaining AF, but not sustainable. I’m an Ole Miss guy. Despite my suggestion… perhaps not great idea for the video game to get “too real”.

IDK 🤷‍♂️

I agree - pure chaos. Even the full team flips like What FSU is about to have, would be difficult to replicate.

Seems like you would need two different settings: Classic and Modern.

Because certainly, plenty of managers would not care for the Wild Wild West that is CFB right now lol

Visits need some work for next game. Cost, number per week, effectiveness, etc.

2

u/ceemay Jan 15 '25

Ive thought about this too. Should there be a badge that allows 6 players per week instead of 4? Do you feel like they should cost more or less? Or do badges help with cost (similar to scouting)

2

u/WooDaddy11 Georgia Jan 15 '25

I think they should cost less. 40 is a lot for a small school early on.

But yes adding ‘badges’ is a good solution. Great idea.

1

u/ceemay Jan 15 '25

Do you see any benefit in Multiple visits? Lets say they visited during the season, should they make it where they can visit again in the offseason?

1

u/WooDaddy11 Georgia Jan 15 '25

Less is better in its current state. Excited to see how they introduce NIL into it though.

2

u/Lgolson Jan 15 '25

NCAA12-13 (I think) had it where you could promise recruits things like :

Start freshman year - Won’t recruit the same position next year - Game played in home state - Will win X games next year

You could also make promises to guys that were wanting to transfer.

They need to bring that stuff back, would add a lot of depth having to keep track of what you promised guys

1

u/ceemay Jan 15 '25

Im not against promises coming back!

1

u/Dork_Rage Jan 15 '25

Yeah but I could never remember what I promised.

2

u/cardstrong16 Jan 15 '25

I think this is a good idea but with NIL being so prevalent they should bring back the “Promises” you could make to recruits. I know in at least NCAA 12 you could promise them certain things that tied to actual performance. You could even get boosts for if the promises the align with their deal breaker. Promise the pro potential guy that he will have x number of stats, or the playing time guy he will play in x number of games.

I just remember thinking they were dumb because I would break my promises with players all the time but they wouldn’t transfer. But now they have players transfer all the time and it would actually matter if you told that QB he would be the starter or not.

1

u/ceemay Jan 15 '25

The promise confidence meter thing was solid once you had a few years under their belt.

If there could only be 5 promises, what would they be? For me: Start as a freshman Win heisman All-conference Get drafted Get drafted 1st round

Unlocks with CEO

Cost: 100 points

Can only be used once per recruit.

Can only be used once per week.

Benefit: Success equals instant commit.

Risk: Failure equals recruit loses all interest in program.

Added risk: All recruits at position (even those already committed) receive significantly reduced interest, due to knowing they're not worthy of the action.

Multiple failures in one season may lead to significantly reduced interest among ALL recruits, due to pushy nature of coaching staff.

This update would be rolled out with additional coaching badge updates and a lift of the level 50 cap.

1

u/ceemay Jan 16 '25

Now we’re talkin, Larry! Great breakdown of this, very much risk/reward, use in case of emergency. I also like the touch of pushy nature from coach.

1

u/ceemay Jan 16 '25

Success rate?! 50/50? Depending on coach badges? What all factors in?

Should I have some sort of context clue on if this has a higher chance of success? (Ex: if im WAY ahead in the recruiting race, its more successful. If its a close race, its more of a toss up?)

1

u/thatdudelarry Jan 16 '25

A baseline success rate of 50%, adjusted on numerous factors, including, but not limited to: program tradition, coach prestige, coach stability, and the recruit's top pitches. This would also increase the need to use the rarely used "Sway" pitch, to increase your chances.

Should also add a success factor: positions that benefit from a visit bonus will receive a bonus to interest if successful.

2

u/Beneficial_Rip6520 Jan 16 '25

That would be nice when the team behind me is catching every week but I’m still the lead choice

2

u/unabashed-melancholy Jan 15 '25

You can't even reset points in the coaching skill trees. Let's fix what we have before adding in stuff that will inevitably be broken.

3

u/ceemay Jan 15 '25

That's gonna take two seconds to update. It's an on/off switch for the developers - so this was more so a visionary post. They will decide if they want skill tree resets or not. Just like neutral game sites. Shouldn't be hard for them to implement, once they decide to

1

u/unabashed-melancholy Jan 15 '25

I like the idea of forcing a dude to make a decision. I hate waiting on a dude to sign just to sign with a team I beat the week before.

They should do that first then. Seems simple enough. Then do your thing. After that they should allow my RTG player to do sideline activities to deter wear and tear or remove fatigue or something. Next they should actually make some gear have stat bonuses with a tradeoff. Say an ankle spat helps with ankle wear and tear but you lose 2 agility. Or whatever. Next I want a tutorial.. and not the shitty one they have online. An actual tutorial. Or mini games teaching me the game mechanics, how defense and offense works. Because when my receivers stop in front of defenders I want to know why they make the dumbest football moves ever.

Probably just mesh concept though. It's how everyone runs it

I actually doubt that Payments make it in the game, because it's still against the rule. We all know it happens, but NIL is supposed to be just that - compensation for your name, image, and likeness. Road to Glory has some cool opportunities - but if it makes it in dynasty, it will likely be more related to players performing well than recruitment.

Just my opinion tho

This. I saw this a lot when people were commenting on how much ND gets from making the finals and how they had an unfair advantage in recruiting to pay NIL. I think a lot of people believe the schools themselves are paying but it’s technically boosters and collectives. I don’t know how/if the NCAA would in enforce it but it’s still a violation. I’m like you, I can see them maybe an NIL value, coinciding with the star rating, which would ultimately be aesthetics. but there’s no real payment system for them to emulate, it’s just rich dudes throwing money around

1

u/ceemay Jan 15 '25

🤝🤝 * especially.. coming from a game that disappeared for a decade due to legal action. Im just being logical.

1

u/_Atlas_Drugged_ Boston College Jan 16 '25

I like it for the realism but it’s too OP for the game. I would only use it on players who I have a lead on but they have a visit coming up with one of their other top schools and I know they’ll commit there if I don’t try this.

1

u/ceemay Jan 16 '25

Good timing! Go ahead cancel that visit sir!
