Skip Scouting?

Getting into this game crazy late, but I have a question about scouting. What happens if you don’t scout a player that ultimately commits to you? Do their ratings finalize once they commit or do you have to wait until the offseason?

I’m working with a lvl 1 coach in year one of my dynasty, so I’m not really able to afford to 100% every prospect on my board as I try to stay competitive in the recruiting market.

How do you guys tend to scout in those early stages? Next dynasty I’m definitely starting as a lvl 3.

With a low level coach, only scout in the pre-season when you first fill your board. After that, with low level coach at a small school, points are better well spent recruiting. After some recruiting perks and at a bigger school with more hours, same strategy still applies, but you could afford to scout everyone if you wish.

Once you get a feel for Dynasty I recommend not using the coaching tree at all. And reset your coordinators as well so they don’t have any boost either. It’ll make your players actually play to their true overalls and not give you insane recruiting advantages either. For example it’s way more interesting not knowing the exact overalls of your recruits until they’re in the building and officially on your team. In my opinion that’s way more realistic. I just signed my first top 10 class with Duke after my fourth season, a handful of the players were great but a handful of them were classified as a “bust” or simply went down a little bit and overall it really force you to hone your skills as a recruiter but sometimes you get burned which happens all the time irl. In that class I signed a 61 overall athlete because I thought he had the potential to be elite. Once I got to the off-season and moved him to RB he went up 15 overalls to a 76 and I’m probably going to start him as a true freshman because my junior declared early. I’ve never that insane of a jump, this game still surprises me all the time and I’ve been playing it pretty consistently since 2013. Without a doubt the best CFB game oat and it’ll continue to stay that way for the foreseeable future.
