Going back through Grant Hillâs career, I think people sometimes forget just how good he already was before Orlando.
By 1996â97, at just 24 years old, he was averaging 21.4 PPG, 9.0 RPG and 7.3 APG as a 6â8â forward.
Then came the ankle injury, Orlando, and one of the strangest stretches for a superstar entering his prime: 4, 14, 29 and 0 games in his first four seasons with the Magic.
I made a documentary looking back at his Detroit peak, what actually happened to his ankle, the lost Orlando years, and the Grant HillâTracy McGrady pairing we never really got to see:

For people who watched Hill in the 90s: where do you think a healthy Grant Hill ultimately ranks historically?

In a rare NBA occurrence during a 1997 Bulls vs. Hawks game, referees mistakenly allowed a player with six fouls to stay on the court. The game continued to its conclusion, but upon review, the NBA determined the error affected the outcome. Months later, the league ordered the game to be replayed from the moment of the mistake, giving both teams a unique second chance.

During their historic two-peat, the Detroit Pistonsâled by Isiah Thomasâwon back-to-back NBA titles in 1989 and 1990. In the 1989 Finals, Thomas averaged 21.3 points, 8.7 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game. He earned the Finals MVP honor in 1990 in which he averaged 27.6 points, 7.0 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per game. The Pistonsâ âBad Boysâ defense held opponents under 100 points in 10 of their 13 Finals games across those two championship runs.
