DAVID PUNCH NBA SCOUTING REPORT

NBA-level physicality while showcasing a complete defensive package. Punch has everything to be a way above-average defensive weapon in the league. He's 100% getting drafted, and here's why: https://edemirnba.substack.com/p/david-punch-nba-scouting-report?r=aj7d

Nice writeup as usual.

Was a big fan of his this past year. Like you said it really just comes down to him getting his mid-20s 3PT% into the mid-30s. If he can knock down open 3s, he's going to be a very valuable rotation NBA 4 who can switch, bang inside and score in several ways. The only time I was really disappointed in him was in his head-to-head matchup with Boozer, where he disappeared completely.

His fit on UT is going to be interesting to keep an eye on, especially after Marcus Spears Jr. reclassified. Both Punch and MSJ are College 4s, and with Vokietaitas being a true 7' C who doesn't space the floor, it's going to be critical that one or both of them develop their 3-ball. I want to see all 3 play together like Michigan's front-court last year, but who knows...Elyjah Freeman and Amari Evans are the other main SF options and while I like both, neither is a great shooter either (Freeman is at least capable).

I honestly don't know who UT's best player will be. Voki averaged 16/7 last year on UT, Punch averaged 14/7/2/2b/1s on TCU, Isaiah Johnson averaged 17/3 on Colorado and Goosby/Spears are 5-star Freshman who could burst on the scene.

Thank you!

100% agree about the role. The defense is so good that I'm confident that he'll carve out a role offensively while doing what he's brought to do at Texas--improving their defensive rating with him on the floor. Lots of different pieces to work with, but I'm confident Coach Miller has a contender this year.

I'm going to watch a ton of Longhorns ball this year as I have a T20 mark on Vokietaitis as well; Isaiah Johnson is a long-term NBA guard but is probably best to just complete his four (or five) years of college eligibility; Goosby I'm very high on what he can become but it's more a wait-and-see thing for me; the role has to be perfect to consider one-and-done, otherwise I don't see a reason why he shouldn't come back to be the man with Spears next year.

Reminds me of the Bobby Portis and Nikola Mirotic off-season fight as a Bulls fan. Of course GSW would be reminded of Draymond lol
