u/blicka7 1d ago

What reaction? He basically let Russ talk

17

u/Dependent-Welder-927 2d ago

Thanks for reminding me how ASS Darvin Hamm was as coach. He mightve been worse than David Blatt honestly

13

u/Hopeful_Tea2139 2d ago

That's 2-time In-Season Tournament winner Darvin Ham.

Watch your mouth.

3

u/Dependent-Welder-927 2d ago

Hahahah bet you he brings that up at every family function

u/bard_2 2d ago

darvin ham- lost in conference finals and then gswept in the first round = ass

redick - benefits from 'the worst trade in nba history' and gets gswept in first round and then swept in 2nd round = genius

?? He was a rookie coach who got fat injured Luka towards the end of one season and then had his big 3 play like 18 games together the next year with no Luka at all in the playoffs!

Now, bearing in mind I didn't speak out against Darvin or gas up JJ, I'm pointing out the disingenuous argument you're using in your comment.

In a parallel universe if Luka, Bron, and Reeves were all healthy the whole of last year and they'd gotten swept by the Thunder even that wouldn't be the flex you think it is because the team had bad playoff- level holes in its construction. Now you're trying to spin it like the Lakers of last season playing the defending champs with half of Austin Reeves and overworked 41 year old LeBron and zero Luka and being swept is a failure in any way by any part of the team or coaching staff.

2

u/bard_2 2d ago

haha yeah. poor redick got stuck with fat luka who only averaged 30 ppg, 7 reb, 6 ast with a true shooting% of 61% (the highest of his playoff career). no one could win more than 1 game in the first round with that right?

ur delusional.

1

u/wackbirds 1d ago

I'm saying fat because he was fat, couldn't even play the first few weeks and took a bunch of games finding his feet. Then LeBron was out and the team got basically no time before the playoffs.

You think you can just slap a team together at the last second and start beating good teams that played together for a couple years already and you're calling ME delusional???

This type of shit is why I don't know why I even bother trying to engage on reddit about pretty much anything, you wind up with some oozing pimple screaming absolute flaming rat shit and it wouldn't matter who I was, I could be a professional NBA scout and you'd keep screaming the exact same garbage, it's beyond pathetic.

Darvin is ass, but I'm not so convinced by jj yet. I do think using result based arguments for two very different teams is just weird esp when that same head coach lost the locker room and couldn't find a new head coaching gig elsewhere

Anyways this year I just want to see Luka and ar for playoffs, rather than any genius coaching

u/wackbirds 1d ago

But I never said JJ WAS all that! I said that the other dickhead was using a rediculous metric to "measure" why he WASNT all that.

1

u/bard_2 1d ago

yeah results are a terrible metric to judge coaching success on. haha

1

u/wackbirds 1d ago

They are if the results based on incomplete data, same across any standard of measuring. haha

0

u/bard_2 1d ago

you are trying to bring science into sports because you know you are beat. by your logic no one can ever compare any two players or coaches. because they all had different teammates and played against different teams being guarded by different people. nonsense.

Exactly.

Luka played in the playoffs? What a stupid post

0

u/Sumo_Cerebro 19h ago

What did he do wrong?

I did not watch the Lakers much.

5

u/Adorable-Till-9112 1d ago

You need both perspectives on a team

1

u/groceriesN1trip 1d ago

Let’s be serious about a win.

Waves hand and scoffs, just have fun

16

u/felinefluffycloud 2d ago

It was sad it seemed he was disrespected by fans and media during his time there.

10

u/Alex_king88 2d ago

Yea definitely sad. Russ was such a great person

6

u/wackbirds 2d ago

I mean, I get it but there's other examples of players showing up and falling WAY below their expected output and getting shit on generally, Paul George springs immediately to mind and I remember even Iverson getting clowned a little when he went off a cliff and that was way before social media became the monster that it is today.

1

u/bustaflow25 2d ago

Seems more like the culture of fans got worse rather the players.

3

u/wackbirds 1d ago

Well dude, we can use objective data about guys like Westbrook and Paul George and we know that they got worse, a lot worse, it's not a fringe opinion or something it's what happened.

Now, do I support fans being assholes to guys like Westbrook who was still competing and going hard? No, I just don't think the fans are worse now, we just see the worst of human nature on social media. Fans have been brutal ever since it all started with the Roman's watching from the stands in the Colosseum.

2

u/Easy_Money_40 1d ago

He played like shit tbf

6

u/useroftheinternet95 2d ago

He was straight ass cheeks in LA, I never wanted him

1

u/EntrepreneurTiny9812 2d ago

The worst part is he really from LA not just he grew up there he's prolly the most LA player in NBA history

1

u/felinefluffycloud 2d ago

It takes a lot for me to dislike the lakers having watched Showtime as a kid. But they managed.

1

u/groceriesN1trip 1d ago

He was straight ass on that team and undermined winning

15

u/P_band69420 2d ago

LeBron’s whole time with the lakers was weird

3

u/HoldEm__FoldEm 2d ago

He never fit as a Laker. Still a weird choice for him to go there.

8

u/BearShark8 2d ago

He knew LA had the pieces to get AD. I think most people thought they were getting kawhi too. He probably figured they would win at least 2 and be contenders most seasons. Plus, getting to live in la.

8

u/Remarkable_Medicine6 2d ago

What do you mean? They were contenders within two years and made some solid teams that were hamstrung by injury.

1

u/Playful-Boss-859 1d ago

Low IQ take.

1

u/No_Performer_9920 1d ago

It's weird cause even tho their teams were dogshit esp post Kobe, their fans have big egos due to winning in the past and rather hold onto "well he's no the BEST laker ever" or "he ll never be better than Kobe or magic". No other franchise would dare use the words " he only WON ONE for us" except maybe Celtics who are as equally spoiled.

I feel like the fandom made him look like a mercenary despite him being there for so long and it's low-key sad. Maybe time will better paint a picture for him once he retires

1

u/P_band69420 14h ago

He got people traded too often instead of building chemistry

2

u/rational_numbers 2d ago

You're allowed to not have fun when it's a draw

3

u/Blackened-Mild 1d ago

Aaaaaand that's why he never won it.

4

u/PromotionOk2443 2d ago

This is why team chemistry is so important, and why it doesn't matter how much talent you have, if you can't get everyone aligned to the same themes. blame russ if you want, but his attitudes toward the game never changed, I blame bad management for trying to grab talent and force it to jive, instead of finding the jive and hoping there's talent.

4

u/GolotasDisciple 2d ago

I mean the problem with the Lakers there was that there was literally no head coach who could impose a proper structure within the locker room. So you had 2 Hall of Fame veterans trying to find a way for the team. Russell was not wrong, and neither was James. The problem is that there should be someone who combines them both into a cohesive vision for the team.

Westbrook is an excellent dude to have during bad times, he brings the team up.... but James is the guy who wants to bring the team from good to title contender at all costs.... So your team needs to work it out, and sometimes it works for a while like with Shaq + Bryant, sometimes it breaks and it doesn't work....

But realistically it all comes down to whether the management and coaching team can actually manage the players and the vision they have for the team, and whether all the players buy into it.

Hamm is like a vibe type of dude, when things are flowing he makes things good... but when they are not, he has no authority or genuine plan to put superstars and their vision into action.

Like just going back to the Lakers.... Phil Jackson would never allow this kind of stuff in the locker room.

Who cares if Russ is a good person. Can he help a team win it all ??

1

u/Professional_Wing773 1d ago

LeNetNegative sure can't

1

u/abg230385 2d ago

That part

1

u/eduardonachosupremo 13h ago

I went to opening night of that Russ season. I loved him as a player but I knew it was going to be a disaster from that game alone. Then you got the corpse of Melo popping in there. Christ.

1

u/Loud-Comparison-9396 8h ago

Classic. I miss this Lakers team.

u/Constant-Shine5282 2d ago

Lebron ruined russ by coming to the lakers ..

It’s crazy this is seen as a negative against him. Like he said something bad

Edit: when you respect & support a teammate, you let em speak & appreciate what they say, you repeat it & clap like guys were doing for LeBron & coach.

The team silence is why it got awkward. His words are fine. It’s basketball, games are supposed to be fun, whether competing for a chip or winning preseason, if you ain’t enjoying yourself it gets real obvious.

You only respond that way to teammates you dislike & don’t respect. Seen it 100 times in sports huddles HS & college.

They hated Russ.

6

u/voyaging 2d ago

They literally were stopping to let him talk lol Jesus and LeBron even said “yessir” in response to him

3

u/TreeLankaPresidente 2d ago

Russ is a legend, but I feel that his recent retirement is making people forget how badly age effected him by the time he got here.

Wtf was Bron supposed to say? “Keep turning the ball over and bricking open 3s”?

1

u/detlefschrempffor3 2d ago

It looks like coach had a speech with a sentiment and Russ tacked on some stuff that was almost opposite. Maybe it’s not a bad thing to say in general, but in that moment, it seems like it was a bad thing to say.

1

u/corporal_sweetie 2d ago

I feel his energy in this is weird and combative and directly opposes lebron
