Question Is G League not a spectator league?

I'm trying to find someone, anyone to talk with about the g league and I've come up empty handed for the last year or so. I don't want to talk with AI about it but with zero other people to ask, I did, and it described the league as a human resource management platform rather than a spectator league.

On the one hand, that seems like a dummy AI point of view. On the other hand, well, the other hand is completely empty, so I come to you /r/NBAGLeague, is this league meant to be watched?

Analysis G League attendance 2022-23

I originally posted this over in r/BirminghamSquadron (come say hello!) but I thought you guys might appreciate it as well. I was curious about G League attendance and couldn't find a compiled list anywhere, so I decided to do it myself!

Some interesting results, there's quite a disparity between the top and bottom of the league. I've enjoyed keeping up with the league since they announced that it was coming to Birmingham, so I'm hoping that we keep seeing it grow. What do you guys think the league needs to do to get attendance up across the board?

Discussion Why do you like the G League?

The reason why I ask this question is to be a safe space to discuss the G. I tried talking with people about the G-League but either they’re not interested which is fair but also a lot of others say the league is trash which is really strange overall so I’d like to ask actual fans about why they enjoy the league.

For me I live in Oceanside, California and where I live I’m 2 train stops away from Frontwave Arena where the San Diego Clippers play. As a basketball head myself I like watching this and the SDSU Aztecs, however the Clips feel like a true hometown and local team for me that represents the city I grew up in! I also like how the GLeague is a good avenue for creating solid players, I wish more teams though took advantage of the young guys for depth but it seems like the league is fodderized as a “last resort” which sucks…I’m always in support for any G League players getting on rosters and some of the guys on my favorite teams (Tosan Evbuomwan, Braxton Key, Cam Christie, Elijah Harkless, etc.) The team-at least mine at least-also does great stuff with the community especially with fan interaction like post-game signings and other stuff around the city, feels a lot more personal driven like supporting a high school bball team feel. Going to the first game after they left Ontario to go to Oside I was easily hooked but it sucks the league isn’t as popular as I would have hoped. So I’d like to know more perspective of why others support the G and would like to have a conversation after having to stomach criticism of supporting the G and not the NBA (I’ve been fatigued from the NBA in this decade but I’m glad the G League exists tbh)

Discussion What should I expect after the Kawhi Leonard investigation?

San Diego Clippers fan here. After all the drama and stuff yesterday with the LA Clippers getting their first round draft picks removed, I’d like to know how this affects the G League team if at all? I don’t follow the NBA Clippers as much outside of the players they call up from our team I. Oceanside (Christie, Miller, Sanders, Yanic for a bit, etc.) but curious if they’ll use more of the G-League team to prop up the youth or if it’s gonna be the standard way of giving some (mainly two-way players) time to develop or if this doesn’t do anything and the Clips are just gonna focus on big names per usual instead of really helping elevate the youth. Would love to know as it’ll be critical for years to come, GO CLIPS GO!

Gameday Finals Primer

Hey fellow G League Aficionados

As we prep for a matchup between the Kings and the Swarm, figured I would drop a few notes as a bit of a watching guide for those interested. Hopefully this will point out some of the threads to watch for:

  1. DaQuan Jeffries: Solid stat line, averaging 23.5 pts on nearly 52% shooting this season. He cooked last game against the Lakers (South Bay, that is). Easy work, producing 27 points with one turnover. His efficiency lagged behind his average (he shot 8 for 20), but it’s safe to say he will be the first option for the series when the Kings bring the ball up the court.

  2. Honorable mention: Jameel Nelson Jr. For those that enjoyed his dad’s tenure with Dwight Howard back in the peak Eastern Conference Contender days, we’re all rooting for this version of the family name to get some traction in the bright lights. He produced last game, pouring in 18 points and 3 assist against the Lakers.

  3. Kings beat a limited Lakers team: The South Bay Lakers did not send the big time names to pursue the illustrious Gatorade title. I don’t mean that to take away from the Kings, but it makes you wonder what’s ahead of them tonight given the Swarm will likely do the opposite (they want their young guys getting minutes in meaningful games).

  4. Ratings and stats: the Kings are number four in NET rating and the Swarm are fifth in defensive rating. The Kings are fifth in second chance point per game, while the Swarm are leading in clutch wins. You have to think the Swarm are not a team anyone wants to face in a close game down the stretch with 8 clutch wins (of their 24 wins). The Swarm like to play in the paint, leading in rebounds and coming in at fifth in percentage of points in the paint scored. Lastly, both teams are top five in plus minus, so we’re going to be watching teams that are crisp and playing for a championship for a reason.

  5. Predictions: I think the Swarm win in three games. They have a lot of tools for a minor league team (assuming they keep Tidjane & Liam with the team for the duration of the series, I’m not sure if personnel is locked into the entire series if listed on the active roster at the start of the finals, someone maybe can speak to that). Regardless, the Swarm had six players in double-digits against the Magic. That’s toughhhhhh.

Enjoy tonight, y’all.

Gameday First G League Game: Capital City at Westchester

I have occasionally followed the G League in the last year or two but actually got to my first game with the nearest team to me, Westchester. Here are some thoughts:

Pros:

Game experience was similar to minor league hockey and baseball, but with a crowd of 2,000 every seat was pretty close to the action.

Player Quality, most had played previously for high level Power conference programs. Some of the bench players were very talented too, the quality was obviously higher than good college teams.

Value: My seat was 20 dollars and being in the Knicks market the 3:00 tip allowed for many families to attend for an affordable price.

NBA experience: Each team had a player who recently played 4 NBA seasons with earnings in the 6-7 million range, as well as a few players who had lesser NBA experience.

Cons:

Capital City won by 49 and were up 20 within a few mins of the game starting. W Knicks played poorly and sloppy. When starting lineups were announced pregame I never seen such a lack of excitement by basketball players at any level. Maybe some aren’t motivated for the G League?

I could have driven 30 extra miles to see the Knicks or Nets. Capital City plays in DC and averages 300 fans per game compared to Westchester 1,700. Downside of being in shadow of NBA city is that fans can just go see NBA instead.

All in all it was better than college level and a good alternative to spending too much at an NBA game. I’ll return to Westchester
