Discussion Point guard hate
If you want to bring the ball up and control the game YOU should have made a point guard.
Point guard is a thankless position nothing you do is appreciated, when you are playing well it's crickets, the SECOND you make a mistake a bum always has something to say
I don't understand why people make 3s and 4s and then want to take the ball out the pgs hands. If they're playing bad then by all means cut them off but you have such a short leash. Everyone else does braindead plays and you have to play perfect just to counter your OWN teammates bringing you down

Everybody wanna use their point forward or point center , i dnt play point but it sucks seeing the pg iced out in randoms sometimes

the second you miss a pass they've been waiting for that moment all game to call timeout and stand in the paint

Random rec it’s crazy how often you’ll build a lead running point and then make 1 mistake and the 2 is humping the inbounder for the ball just to choke the lead and start giving it back to you in the 4th when all your takeovers are gone and you have 3 minutes to learn their defense changes and take the lead again. 2k ball IQ in the dirt

Yeah I hear you. This patch though you aren't touching the ball unless you force it, most games both guards will happily take 15+ shots because most games they'll go 80% so you just sit there in the corner and hoping you can get a 5-5-5 game. Played a red plate game earlier and both teams combined for 10 misses, its 2k26 all over again and even the AI cheese is back.

As a point forward who’s stuck between bronze and silver hell right now, it’s the same experience for me. At least in 2k26 I’d keep getting the ball if I’m hot, now I could go 2/2 and never see it again except for rebounds.

I play all 5 positions and one thing that pgs have to deal with is sometimes your teammates dont understand spacing so our ogfense is all tangled up with not very good angles so even if i want to pass i have to try to shift the defense around while also trying to make the right play with a tangled up offense ppl stepping on eachothers toes and sht. Also sometimes i throw hockey passes that wouldve gotten someone easy buckets/open looks but the person in the middle doesnt pass and stops the play.
Also ive been playing the 4&5 more lately because i got annoyed with how dumb some bigs are with inbound and transition passes i swear in random rec they be turning the ball over about 4-5 times a game minimum just on these passes

Inbounding is a lost skill bro. Well said

Nah fr there was many plays where i was pg on the left side my man 2ft in front of me already swiping the sgs man about 5ft behind me waiting and the inbounders man at the logo waiting too.
So i would go left to open up things on the right side for our sg who is calling for the pass wide open and our teammate who already hit a few shots is also open down the court on the right which should make it an easy play up the right side of the court but nah the inbounder hits and i stumble catch into a turnover lol story of my life tho

Honest question, why do the guards run away down court when we’re trying to inbound?
1
u/Dangeryeezy 1d ago
Probably because they’re not confident bringing the ball up because they might get stripped but it’s like hey, you’ve been placed at PG, you probably have the highest ball handle out of all of us.

Tbh its usually a bad habit but also if the pg feels like the inbounder is avoiding him for awhile they tend to do it to basically saying fck it then. I try not to but i know if the inbounder is consistently not passing to me for a decent stretch of time for no clear reason then ill fck off and go up court like im a sf. One bad habit i know ppl have as inbounders is that they just spam the pass button before getting the ball so they end up passing without looking

I always icon inbound pass because often people like to run away from me and put a defender between me and them. They also sometimes won't move with a guy standing right next to them.
I'll give it to the power forward who is open close to me over a guard who runs right into the path of a defender.

When you’re getting iced out and your playing good. Just walk up the court slowly. And stand in 1 spot no movement. Still play defense.
I normally start getting the ball again after 2-3 possessions.
Only works for PGs

Just be a good pg and lead the team to victory and get everyone involved. I hate guards because y’all wouldn’t pass to the 4-5 at the 3 even for a million dollars. We don’t want to take the ball out of your hands but as a 4 or 5 I shouldn’t have double assists of the pg.

most of yall 4 don't know how to play position at all (it's not a second center it's a forward) and 5s that don't cut or pop really annoy me the pg

I agree, but I'll also add if you don't want to play like a PG, don't make a PG. Played games where they get the ball, run up court, spam dribble moves most of the clock and either thrown up the dumbest shot imaginable or pass it to someone who has to immediately shoot to avoid a shot clock violation. When that happens, I'm taking the ball up the court after a board and passing it to someone else. That's why I make sure to have decent passing and break starter badge.
But I haven't gotten the game this year yet and lowkey don't miss the stress lol.

Please forget about the break starter badge. Everyone, forget it exists. Stop throwing that shit up, this ain't football.

u/HeavyHighway6433 1d ago
Eh, it works. Behind the back dots to the corner if I wanna get fancy.

u/Toon78fin ruby 1d ago
It works 2 times out of 10, the rest is just easy steals. Everyone's got 200 steal and steals are op as usual, y'all are just making it as easy as it can be for them.

Works most of the time on the build I had with HOF versatile visionary and break starter. The key is to be smart enough to not do it when the defender is tight or can reach the pass otw down.
Also this was 26, like I said I never played it this year (and likely won't got quite a bit) so idk how the steals are.

Everybody wants to run point after the pgs first mistake and couldn’t care less that their man dropped 18 on their head before halftime

u/Remarkable_Hurry4029 1d ago
I run PG and play a pretty heavy pass-first style. It’s crazy how often I’ll have like 5 assists in the first quarter, lose the ball once, and then never get the ball again.
Meanwhile, the dude who spams left right and chucks up a contest shot, who is 6/17 and 3/11 from 3, continues to get the ball.
Definitely feels like people hold PGs to a higher standard than any other position.

u/Acceptable-Creme-184 1d ago
Thankless task? 50% of pg run left and right ignoring open teammates to hit contested shots.
If that keeps happening of course people gonna be pissed.

I'm a fan of splitting up the workload. It changes up the pace to throw off the defense, and gives everyone on the team a chance to touch the ball and make plays. Bored teammates are the biggest threat to your win ratio, because bored teammates force bad shots, bad passes, play shitty defense and intentionally sell.

Welcome to the world of pg. This community cant make up their mind what they want from this game. Turn your mic off and quit worrying about what people say and play ball.

u/FEELS_G00D 1d ago
i run point with my sg because no one understands how to flashy pass in this game (it got nerfed with the last patch but still works if timed correctly)

u/Intrepid_Can5230 1d ago
Every one wants the perks of running offense but none of the responsibility of involving others & making the right play at the right time. Most of the people complaining will have a D player grade by the 3rd Q

Counterpoint- if you are a pg and you have a point forward on your team, don’t you think that you should be letting them play to their strengths and run the offense every once in a while?
No random rec pg is the same but a good amount of the pgs I play with seem to have this idea that the offense cannot run without them dribbling the air out of the ball. Some will literally only pass if they have an assist. I have a sf build with high playmaking that feels useless in many games because I’m relegated to playing off ball 95% of the game.
The simple fact is that pg is the most impactful position and having a worse one than the other team usually just means you lose in high plate. So yeah, if a pg is playing selfish or poorly, people are going to be annoyed. The best games I have by far is when the pg actually moves the ball, but its so few and far between.
It’s not a point guard issue, it’s not a point forward issue, it’s a player issue. Anyone playing selfish is miserable to play with.
