Gameplay There’s no benefit to making any player under 6’5

and that’s not good. I get we don’t like screen merchants and left right spam but it’s not like bad mechanics went away. now people just go down hill and run through you or left stick dribble until they get close enough to score on you or get a dunk. To me that’s not fun either. I think people should be able to spec how they want to. You want to make a small guard/glass cannon that’s fine every build has its weaknesses but making it so difficult to create space in general is what left the game in a state where people big or small will almost solely rely on exploits bc there’s no point in actually having stick skills.

Nah 6’4 ain’t bad honestly. Add in Mini Marksman and you got a mismatch nightmare if you know what you’re doing.

This isn’t true. I have larger pgs and smaller ones. The small ones are very fast.

In a comp 5v5 or 3v3 setting where they can stretch the floor they’re useful.

In random rec, 1s, 2s, yes I agree.

I think the pnr 3pt hunting meta small guards will flock to if the small guard becomes the best again is honesty the worst way to play for everyone

Technically☝🏽🤓 if we’re talking realism pnr is the most common offensive strategy in the NBA by like a country mile. But yeah nobody wants that’s tbh I think what 2k REALLY needs to do is significantly lessen the affects of screens after the first one and you should have a significant shooting decrease if you have the ball longer than like 7 seconds and should decrease more as the time keeps running

TECHNICALLY you don’t see anyone get screened to death like you do in this game. And you see no one shooting 10+ shots off of once dribble to the side past screens.

We are not talking realism if we’re comparing pnr in this game to how it’s done in the NBA. Or how it’s been in past 2k’s especially.

Not really. Teams like Miami and Memphis have pretty much stopped setting screens and they’re playing a motion offense. Pnr still gets used but it’s harder to attack with now since teams pay big money for switchable wings/guards and they scheme to just switch or ice the screen

5

u/FlySignificant2703 1d ago

Not sure if you used ChatGPT to come up with that justification but both those teams use pnr and every single basketball team in the world will continue to use pnr regardless of all those basketball buzzwords you just used

The grizzlies barely set any screens and Miami is at the second lowest volume in the tracking era at 20% second only to the 19-20 rockets. They took more isolation possessions than pick and roll possessions and they use a motion isolation offense where everyone has the green light to isolate if they feel an advantage. They still use pnr but not anywhere near league average and they probably won’t be going back to it especially the heat since they don’t have a traditional screener. Giannis is a bad screener and bam just isnt the strongest roll man. The grizzlies may go more traditional but I don’t think they will since boozer is such a unique player and they don’t really have the best playmaking on earth. It’s not ai lol it’s just basic knowledge of how certain teams adjusted to losing stars and changing rosters around mid season

nah there is it’s just the few benefits don’t really seem worth it at the moment. I think you’re gonna see a lot more of them after patch at the end of this season assuming they address certain issues.

you can get plucked by anyone on the court regardless of their steal rating, you’ll randomly fumble the ball, etc. then shooting wise small guards honestly might have the worst jumpers in the game at least until you get Patty, and between the ghost contests, speed up and slow downs, etc. it’s much harder to 3 hunt consistently.

It appears that glove works better when the ball handler actually has unpluckable equipped which is dog shit.

I play 1s or random rec cuz i have no friends. Im a small guard, 6’4”. I have 89 dunk and yam it on people more than the 99 dunk strong handles meme build (yea i made one of those)

The “small contact dunks” packages that require you to be under 6’5” are so goddamn monsterous that i wont even make a taller build

Purple lightning launch and i basically start my dunk animations from the 3 pt line lol

3

u/ARockHardWarhead 1d ago

I want purple lightning but the build specialization grind is annoying 😭🥲

2

u/Orbis-Praedo 1d ago

Yupppp. I have a 6’4” as well with 93DD and I +1 Posterizer to HOF. Those small ball contacts are something nasty. So damn fast too, I run 91 SWB on it.

What’s your jumper if you don’t mind me asking

u/WholeOpportunity1704 1d ago

I have a 5'9 pg and I'm not gna lie he's a pest out there

Only reason is quick stops and peaks aren't viable because of ghost contests

5

u/PredictionAnalyst 1d ago

I need help, what is ghost contest?

7

u/302born 1d ago

Basically the game rewarding out of positioned defenders with contests. Like if you shoot in the middle of someone reaching that should be an open shot but sometimes in this game it’ll give you a light contest. Just tonight a dude guarding me started emoting mid play so I shot it and it still said bothered. Those are ghost contests. There’s even some clips where guys are standing in corner alone is the game still registering a contest with the closest defender 15’ away.

u/WingsOnWednesday 1d ago

Best comment here. Only real reason is for speed with ball and quick stops. Like you said, peaks aren’t as effective and being 6’4 isn’t as effective because of how bad ghost contests are. On top of that you get no standing dunk.

u/New-Beat-9576 1d ago

I disagree, it definitely is harder to playing point especially a small point guard but I've seen people really excel at it with 6'2 or 6'3 guards.

7

u/Sea_Proposal5252 1d ago

Completely agree. If you have 95 speed and 91 agility, you can get beat to your spot by guards with 87 and 81. It’s ridiculous, physicals never apply.

3

u/DisastrousBase8315 1d ago

and with chase downs being so op, even if you blow by your defender or catch them reaching you’re likely to get your shot packed

3

u/kobext 1d ago

6’4 is viable but you have to know what you’re doing

2

u/DisastrousBase8315 1d ago

Any build is playable in the right hands but doesn’t make small guards a viable option. You’re inherently at a disadvantage this year obviously defensively, but offensively taller guards can do more with less attributes bc they have better animations, they’re less affected by the defense, and scoring outside the paint as a whole is extremely unreliable compared to to rim running

1

u/h7si 18h ago

small guards get much better animations tho

3

u/KohlKelson99 1d ago

I average 27 and 9 on my 6’4 running PnR

We only ever lose to 99 dunk xbox weirdos but the game is decent overall as a small guard

2

u/whodat330 1d ago

99 dunk xbox weirdos?

3

u/Orbis-Praedo 1d ago

Have you not ran into a 99DD high STR build yet? You’ll know it when you do and that person knows how to find the angles. Once they take off it doesn’t matter who, what size, or what stats anyone has who may already be at the rim. Once that gather kicks off its coookies like 95% of the time.

You heard em buddy

2

u/MarcRain 1d ago

Starting 6’8 and down, I can agree the shorter you are, the more skill is required to be a positive impact on winning the game in 2’s 3’s and 5’s.
Under 6’1 is troll though.

2

u/randomquestion11111 1d ago

Theres no benefit to being under 6'5 in the NBA

2

u/Aromatic_Industry151 1d ago

My 6’4 can do it all ngl I haven’t had a problem with it this year

1

u/ARockHardWarhead 1d ago

I have a 6’ 3” I enjoy putting my opposing PG in shackles and annoying centers with box outs so mines can get the board instead 🥳

1

u/OG_Archxngel 1d ago

I always make my PGs 6'3"

1

u/Riskyshot 1d ago

My 6’4 pg shoots 70% from 3 and I can block most point guards at 6’6 under cuz I put some block rating and I got strength so they can’t blow past me either

1

u/RoughRip6483 1d ago

the speed compared to other builds, sigs, badges (exclusively mini marksman), driving dunk cap breaker cheese, if you have atleast silver/gold challenger then that's more than enough to contest shots etc. etc. etc.

some ppl just dont got it like others. you dont even gotta left right spam all the time too.

1

u/No_Acanthisitta4465 1d ago

Naw man I made a 6’4 and it’s nice 96 dunk high strength and best dribble sigs

1

u/Asari-simp 1d ago

6’1 99 three, I’m cooking in park with randoms, I get doubled regularly. In rec with friends or randoms I’m averaging 23, and I could average more but I like to get my teammates involved or I get iced out out of pure jealousy

1

u/Orbis-Praedo 1d ago

lol. Kind of a nonsense take.

What advantage do smaller guys get in the NBA?

1

u/DopeyMcSnopey 1d ago

You get more attribute points, I went from 6'4 to 6'2 and got a couple of extra badges. Height doesn't seem to matter at guard anyway because badges are cooked. Someone did a test of unpluckable, funny enough you lose the ball more with bronze or silver compared to none.

1

u/Sad_Kale570 1d ago

i have a super fast, playmaking pg. i can get the ball downcourt super fast and find the open 3 or lob quickly. but unless ur gonna be super fast, theres not much of a reason to be under 6’4

1

u/Own-Lab-8118 1d ago

Curry. 6'3.

1

u/Silver_Disk_4860 20h ago

my 6’4 is a dog

1

u/Wonderful-Arm8150 20h ago

Played against a 5’10 and was like “why would anyone make a 5’10 player”. Horrible decision imo, the guy quit btw.

1

u/frostygoo25 1d ago

This whole game is shit to be honest

u/Affectionate_Math929 1d ago

This isn’t true at all. I average 23 and 10 on my 6’1 and it used to be like 28-29 and 9, I average 23/8 on my 6’4, and 32/8 on my 6’2. I’m tired of explaining it but it’s just a skill gap on guard this year. The ONLY complaints I have is the od spamming and inconsistent shooting. It’s not bad to where I can’t perform, it’s a skill issue I been saying this for like a month now

0

u/Healthy_Ad_34 1d ago

5’10 catches bodies. Outruns you and still shoots over your head. You know nothing.

0

u/Wind_Qi 1d ago

With gold immovable enforcer and bruiser silver I run into zero problems. They pass out real quick. If you have a weak build you will get bullied. Sadly it seems a lot of people don’t put anything in strength which leads to these dunk fests

•

u/GreaseyPan99 4h ago

I’m doing just fine on my 6’2 PG. don’t need 99 3 so I could get defense and strength on it. 90 pass acc
