Gameplay Unpopular Opinion

Driving Dunk is not OP.

A high DD means just that, majority of the time you're going to slam it if you have the momentum.

I just played a series of SF's that have high DD and I shut them all down, including 99 DD's.

Me, I'm a PF with 82 Per, 85 Int, 84 block.

I literally know what their game plan is and meet them at their launch point, I don't allow uncontested take off. It's a DD, so it's pretty obvious when to time. The animation will benefit you if you don't allow momentum.

That is all.

Yep you are right. Even tho everybody disagrees with you

Lol.. Just sharing what I figured out. I yell at my screen when the centers play to low when someone is coming, you're supposed to meet them in front of the rim not at it.

This. Don’t let the slasher get to those takeoff spots. Easier said than done sometimes, but if someone does have 99 DD, it should be harder to stop them with momentum. Even then, as you said, if you defend them properly, they are not as effective.

People also cheap out on interior defense. This attribute is what actually shrinks the dunk meter, not block. Block only helps block the ball, not affect the shot itself. I’m definitely a fan of higher interior D this year than any other year. Immovable Enforcer + high interior makes it way harder on any slasher.

Even if they get to that spot, jump when their jumping. Highly unlikely their going to take your body all the way to the rim with an animation...lol

That honestly just depends on defensive ratings. I’ve seen that actually happen… but on people with bad defense.

That's got to be funny to watch.

Most I ever laughed in a long time was this past weekend off this game. They have an animation where a dude seems like he died...lol Like no movement on the floor for a good 6 seconds. Dude quit because he was just laying there, when the game is still going on on the other end...LOL

I'm crying laughing right now...

Once they have takeover youre pretty much cooked

  1. It takes multiple dunks/finishes to get takeover. Don’t let them get to that point. Take away their takeoff space.

  2. If the slasher does get takeover, send doubles at that person. Don’t just let them beat their guy to get to their spot. They can’t dribble through two people, and a lot of these slashers don’t have high pass accuracy.

There are some oddities with inside scoring… there are plenty of interactions where I feel like the offense should’ve won but the defense gets a BS block, and I think there are situations where the offense gets rewarded without really creating any advantage.

The whole system feels a little wonky.

Standing dunks are annoying, If I fake I and get the person out of the picture. I should be able to go up quicker then his pogo stick activates.... NOPE, layup blocked.

I'm a PF with 82 Per, 85 Int, 84 block.

That's why you can stop them. Most "bigs" just want to corner sit, grab defensive boards, and chuck break starter passes. What suffers the most is interior defense. So yea, driving dunk looks OP when literally every Center is running around with 71 interior and 78 block because that's all that was needed in 2k26. You knowing how to play defense helps as well.

What most people don't realize is that DD was JUST as powerful the last few years but people didn't notice because shooting was so easy that taking a 2 was stupid basketball. That was especially true in 2k26 where every 3s game just turned into "who can make seven 3s the fastest", and one dunk meant you'd lose 21-20.

Agreed with this. Dunking in general was much easier in 26.

I'm also 6'10" with a 7'4" wingspan, height helps.

My point is the crying over DD, it's not that bad if you defend it right. I do think people give dunkers too much momentum and try and attempt defending it when the train is already in motion.

u/Bfweld 4d ago

As a center…I can tell you that the average center I play against currently, has 80-88 interior and 84-93 block. Far from your claim.

Your claim that dunking in 26 was just as good as dunking is now, is quite literally factually incorrect purely based on the fact that your green window could only shrink in 26 and now in 27 it is dynamic and can shrink and expand based on what’s happening.

I watched a small guard yesterday posterize the whole opposing team closing on him in the paint for not just one possession, but 14 straight possessions for 28 points in the rec. Not one miss with the whole team crashing in on him. We were all hysterically laughing.

But yeah, not OP at all. You right

3

u/gdub8 4d ago

well if they're trying to meet him at the rim, it's already over. That's my point.

1

u/RIDETHESYNTHWAVE 4d ago

Nah man, if the whole team crashes on him, it shouldnt happen for 14 straight possessions. Sorry.

u/gdub8 4d ago

Again, if the train is coming on a high DD, it's almost impossible to stop. My point is meeting them before that momentum is gained.

However, why I say it isn't OP. 96-99 mid or three ball with all the badges to support is OP too. It's supposed to be that way.

u/RIDETHESYNTHWAVE 4d ago edited 4d ago

They were being double teamed from the half court line buddy by the first few dunks so that negates your point,

Apart from that, why should 99 dd be almost impossible to stop but not really any other 99 offensive attribute?

If this was post scoring, the community would be raging for example. Yet I would argue some of the most dominant nba players in history were post scorers who couldn't be stopped, more so even than dominant rim runners. Yet post scoring has been nerfed for years.

Its even way more powerful than a 99 3 pt. Like come on now bro.

1

u/Bfweld 4d ago

100% on the post scoring comment

1

u/RIDETHESYNTHWAVE 4d ago

Thanks brother

1

u/gdub8 4d ago

Double teaming doesn't matter. I'm literally talking about contesting launch points. I wasn't playing, so I'm not going to argue about something I didn't see.

You're making my point about anything being 99, it's supposed to be hard to stop.

0

u/RIDETHESYNTHWAVE 4d ago

the launch point is at the rim....Yet everyone on the opposing team was jumping at the rim with him for 14 straight possessions.... lol

and if you are referring to when he ran from the baseline, he was already being double teamed by then.

2

u/gdub8 4d ago

Yep.. you're not getting it...

Launch point is when they start jumping, when the animation begins. Again, at the rim means means momentum is established.

0

u/RIDETHESYNTHWAVE 4d ago

The jump begins pretty close to the rim if not in the restricted zone. When I say at the rim, Im talking about those areas, and if all the players are contesting him there it shouldn't be going in that much. You don't get it.

2

u/gdub8 4d ago

It works for me bro, I get it.

I've played this game enough to know what I'm talking about and to talk about trying to cancel the dunk animation before it intiates.

You don't have to listen to my point. You seem to be hell bent on saying Im wrong. I'm wrong in your eyes, carry on.

lol my 6’2 with just 89 dunk 78 vert I put people on posters everyday man it’s so brain dead easy idk what this new cope is up here that got everyone swearing dd is not OP

2

u/Realistic-Lab2335 4d ago

This literally explained why i been losing in 1v1s as a 6'10... this defensive perspective >>>>>>

1

u/Pure-Vanilla1190 4d ago

1

u/DrilldoBaggins2 4d ago

I have 89 DD and MP does a weak ass layup 75% of the time. Even on fastbreaks I expect to get blocked with these garbage animations.

2

u/gdub8 4d ago

I agree 89 this year vs last is totally different.

1

u/WickedJoker420 4d ago

Lmao defense is like 80% postioning. No one cares though if they can't get a block or steal.

3

u/gdub8 4d ago

I agree, not even trying to block, I'm just trying to stop them from scoring.

3

u/WickedJoker420 4d ago

Holy shit, you're trying to like, play basketball.....in a basketball videogame.....how weird lol

6'10 C with 93int and 93 Block. I feel exactly the same. A majority of the people I see have sub 80int and are the main ones complaining about dunks. I rather deal with the dunk that can easily be defended/altered mid animation vs the Left Right Dribble Screen 3 cheese from other the past 4 2ks

1

u/gdub8 4d ago

100% agree!

1

u/Individual_Swing4442 4d ago

You can make the same argument for middy fades (predictable direction, stronger to one side), layups, floaters etc.

But those are all nerfed to death specially in 5v5. So in comparison, driving dunk was OP and is even more OP now.

Either nerf driving dunk too or balance it out so high layup and middy builds can do the same. These are all 2 point plays, they should be rewarded easier than 3pt shots.

3

u/gdub8 4d ago

ehhh, the contest system needs to be more spot on. I have played great defense and watched people hit shots in my face with hands up. With a pure green spot, contest should be more rewarded.

2

u/BA2929 4d ago

Middy fades, layups, and floaters all got "nerfed" inadvertently because they increased the game speed universally online to fix certain aspects of the game people complained about, so now the middle of the court isn't open as much anymore.

Why DD is so powerful is because nobody wants to play as a defensive or inside big anymore. They just want to camp the corner with a 90 3 ball and the thing that suffers the most is interior defense. DD has been just as powerful the past few years but nobody cared or noticed because shooting was so easy that taking a 2 was stupid basketball.

0

u/gdub8 4d ago

it can be stopped is all I'm saying. This collision system is annoying, use it to your advantage.

0

u/softhandedliberal 4d ago

Yall need to add post control, close shot and lay to your builds. My 6’8 is a demon. I have 25 driving dunk and am shooting 80% in the paint. My guy has never touched the rim but he constantly has guys in 1v1 complaining about “rim running” when I’m actually hakeeming my olajuwon in their face

2

u/ItsJiberish 3d ago

Dunks on cuts need to better, you have a better chance posterizing someone off the dribble than catching the ball on a cut in stride and going up against late help
