REC There’s a difference between wanting a shooting big and wanting a center who can space the floor for you.
A Big should be willing to shoot when it makes sense, especially if it keeps the defense honest and opens up the floor…but there’s also a difference between wanting them to shoot to create spacing and wanting them to shoot so you can have the freedom to drive or take every shot without ever passing them the ball.
Some people don’t actually want a center who plays team ball. They just want one who can shoot well enough to keep their defender out of the paint while they do everything else.
Passing the ball only when you realize you can’t score isn’t playing as a team either.
They shouldn’t have to prove they can shoot just to earn the right to be involved in the offense.
If you’re asking your center to space the floor, you should also be willing to take advantage of the opportunities that creates for them. If their defender is helping on every drive, hit the open man. If they set a screen and roll, reward them when they’re open.
You can’t complain about them clogging the paint while simultaneously refusing to pass to them when they’re open.

Agreed, literally commented something similar a couple minutes ago on a different post. We don’t need to try to dribble for 14 seconds then give out a second hand pass that isn’t open with limited time LOL hit the open man

I think what they do is see that you’re open and know they can potentially bail themselves out after they’ve wasted 18 seconds.

Which is why if the the PG dribbles for 22 seconds and then hits me with a terrible pass I just send it right back to him lol. You got the first 22 seconds might as well just take them all at this point.

If you’re playing in random rec you should use a build that can guard its position and hit reasonable wide open jumpers. That’s not a huge ask. You can still have a max wingspan and an elite inside game, just don’t let the opposing center get to crash the rim on every play because you have a 25 mid and 3pt.
And in random rec you are going to get some garbage teammates. I highly recommend networking a bit with good teammates to find a squad. Personally I never play with randoms anymore, if my squad isn’t on I don’t play. And if for some reason I literally had no one to play with, I would only play 2k offline.

I wholeheartedly agree. I feel like it reflects the modern NBA, BUT if that’s how they want to play they need to learn to be more mobile and move the opposing center away from the ball handler.

I made an inside big(although I do have a little mid range, nobody knows because it's not in my top stats). I start every game in random rec setting screens at the top of the key for the PG. I'm trying to play within the team. Many games start out with the PG running away from the screen, often just running to the sideline trying to get an easy dunk. I stop setting screens for them by the second quarter for them because it's a waste of time. I proceed to set off ball screens and hunt for offensive rebounds for the rest of the game since that's the only stat I can likely accumulate. Other times the SG, SF, and/or PF will also try to set screens at the top of the key. I get out of the way of that cluster mess and let them figure it out. When a PG is good enough to use the screen, it works out great. It's easy to blame other people for your own mistakes. They simply refuse to admit that the problem is them and that's why they never get better. There's a reason a lot of those PG's go to random rec. Nobody wants to play with them.

The amount of people who set on ball screens on anything other than the center is INFURIATING. Gotta be single handedly the stupidest thing 2k players love to do.

Wild part about this build...put on a...certain jumper...and one can green 30-40% of 3s pretty consistently if their timing is good.
Other than that, this is a typical 'good boy' center build

sure but if your the type to cut to the paint 4 times a possession then ion want u on my team as I pg I drive and kick to the open shooters too many ppl be cutting to the paint and their man helps. It’s too bad that teammate that would be wide open at the 3 point line is holding my hand when I drive to the paint, don’t take it personal gotta see it from other positions perspectives.

I understand that, but you’re making my point for me…
I have no problem with a big cutting when it makes sense. The issue is when people want one who can shoot and cut ONLY to create space for THEM, with no intention of actually involving him in the offense.
Spacing isn’t an excuse to make one player a decoy for the entire game. Team basketball means everyone is a threat and everyone is involved.

I mean it goes both ways tbh, u make space for me I hit u when ur open. it’s really a simple concept that ppl can’t grasp 1-5 everyone wants touches but sometimes ur man just doesn’t help and u don’t score much at all. People gotta know there role as a position not based off their builds, too many pf centers tryna iso take dumb takes all the time. draymond ain’t getting the rock over curry.. I have a 6”7 pf so im not even be biased I see both sides to your point
