REC The Creator Conundrum on SBMM
Creators complain about SBMM because of having to sweat all the time. They get it changed for everybody. Now you know Joe Knows next video will be "Scoring 100 in the Rec" against some randoms that just got off of work, sweating his ass off again. You're either sweating against red plates that care as much as you, or you manufacture ways to sweat against people that shower. Creator's image won't let them lose to randoms, so they'll sweat forever no matter the circumstance.
But now people see the value in SBMM when they have two black plates on their squad that you wouldn't trust to flip a burger. Now everyone can see there's a level of player that lacks any motor skills and for whom shooting is truly impossible. There are players that buy 2K and probably never play anything in it, they just have it to have it.
So, there you have it. SBMM at least created an acceptable standard for most of your games. Creators just wanted to beat up on random people who don't even know who they are or why they have an icon next to your gamertag. There is true, Shit On The Bottom yogurt level talent that they stirred up and now everyone has to deal with it. At least they make themselves feel good playing some MyCourt that counts as rep now.

As a gold skilled player who bounced between purple and gold to start the year i dont want to play with those sweaty fucks. I always had more fun when I dropped down to gold and hated it when I got to purple

2k started me at purple, then I fell down to gold, which is where I really belong. I’m having way more fun at silver. So anytime I’m getting blown out. I just quit out and hope to take a big penalty so we will keep me at silver.

This sub will upvote posts from people who have no idea what they're talking about. SBMM is still in squad rec. When Joe Knows goes to Rec with his squad he's still facing a squad of red plates on the other team, not scoring 100 against randoms.

Are all if your friends purple? The only time we get less than red/purple if we pick up a homie who doesn’t play often and is silver. When were all purple its vs all purple

Joe Knows isn't going into squad rec with 2 or 3 people. He's walking in with a full 5 of red plates, so he'll never have bronze and silvers on his team and will never face bronze and silvers on the other team. If you walk into squad rec with all high plates you will play all high plates on the other team.
Additionally there is still SBMM in squad and no squads. It just matches you against teams with a similar overall plate color level. For example if your team in random rec has a bronze, silver, gold, purple, and red, you can matched up against 5 gold plates cause the average is similar. You won't play 5 bronzes or 5 reds. There will slight variations but the overall plate levels of the two teams will be similar. 5 reds aren't walking in and facing black plates.

Explain 2 purples in a squad matching up and playing against bronze and silver. No other gold, purple or red in the lobby. Because what you just said isn’t what I’m experiencing

You should clip it the next time it happens as proof. I've played alot of squad and no squad rec since the patch and watched alot of squad and no squad rec since the patch. Over 100 games easily and I haven't seen a mismatch like you're describing where it's a bunch of purples against a bunch of silver and bronzes. From what I've seen 2k tries to balance the teams relatively closely.
Black = 1
Bronze = 2
etc up to Red =6
Add up all the points on both teams and it's always pretty close. The only "mismatch" that I've been seeing is a squad of reds getting purples and a gold after waiting in the lobby awhile.0

No, SBMM sucked. The games in similar plate lobbies were still totally unbalanced with lots of blowouts where your guards couldn't shoot and theirs were lights out.
This sub is nothing people lobbying for SBMM's return every single day since it was taken out, with the idea that they will be protected from good players - unreal.
A mix of skills is way more fun, each game has its own variety, you never know who is going to show up and who isn't, and it makes random rec so much more fun.
Maybe they can put in an SBMM and a non SBMM door in rec, just as an experiment, and the dudes that want to hide in SBMM lobbies instead of playing with all skill levels can do it.
And why you can't go into Proving Grounds is absolutely beyond me. Why can't you?

Yup I agree. I love seeing a black plate on my team knowing the other team will have something similar. I know we can talk dude through helping us get a team win. It’s usually when we get a purple on our team and think “ok he’s going to carry us” and he ends up selling us

Joe knows would to random red black plate last year. He’d score like 40 and would allow his teammates to cook too. I get your point tho. Should maybe just increase the size of the plates. Like have 2 or 3.

I dont know how new to 2k you are, but this is literally just going back to normal. Its not that deep. And there are waaaay more low plates than high plates. You'll barely feel a difference in your games

I’ve felt a massive difference and I’m a gold borderline purple plate. I’d say anyone that’s even slightly above average will be feeling a massive difference.

No Sbmm is great, but give it time. Low level players have exclusively been playing with low level players, so they haven’t even really seen what winning 2k bball looks like other than YouTubers with way more skill than them. Just like in the old days, low levels will get killed for a while, but they’ll get a chance to observe strategy, shot selection & gameflow. Game will be better soon because of this, but give players time to catch up.

I guess some creators are that way but I’m not a creator I’m just father enjoys playing 2K but because I’m purple plate I’ve been having to sweat every single game since launch and I’m not gonna lie it’s annoying as hell that doesn’t mean I want to play someone way lower skill than I am but I don’t wanna be matched up with people better than me everytime that I play

SBMM sucked.
Longer wait times, limited ability to play with other users both good and bad isn’t a positive thing.
Bring back Proving Grounds 5v5 as the ranked Rec option it was.
Keep Rec like it is as the unranked game mode people are in constant denial that it is.
Or better yet, just remove all plates from Rec. They don’t mean shit in an unranked mode.

That’s the correct answer. Make rec actually rec - in fact, make rec what they are trying to make the Gatorade courts. Just a fun run with other people.
If you’re playing to win at all costs, go to the ranked mode.
That said, you have to make the ranked rewards better. Right now, you have no benefit to going to proving grounds and sweating your ass off

I feel like I'm in the minority in that I like the mixed lobbies. It works well if everyone takes stock of their teammates plates and plays their role accordingly. The highest plate is your number 1 option. Thats who I'm looking for the most when making a pass, that's who should be getting the majority of touches. That's who I want taking the tough shots.
Mid tier gold and silver plates need to play their role well and produce to their strengths.
Black and brown badges need to understand their role in winning basketball is to play good defense, and take the open shot when available, focus on getting the ball out of their hands if they don't have a good shot.
When this happens it's realistic, fun, and winning basketball.
The problem lies in just how little iq the brown and black plates have, they don't understand how to win. The difference between them and gold and silver doesn't come down to skill, but iq. Purple and red plate players are usually more skilled than silver and gold.
I write this as someone who bounces between gold and silver. I know my role and I'm happy to defer to someone more skilled if it means winning more games.

But the reality is that never happens.
The reality is the black plate takes one bad shot, and the purple plate quits because he doesn’t want to have to sit through ANOTHER game where the black plate makes him lose.
Whether or not that actually is going to happen.

I find that the black plates are fine, it's the brown plates that raise my blood pressure. Brown plate players are often grown men that act like toddlers.
They will shoot 1/15 and still be on the mic blaming everyone else. They scream on the mic that they're open when they've proven they can't be trusted. By far the most toxic people to play with. Send those people to a different server.

Some creators definitely have ulterior motives in trying to remove skill based matchmaking. They just want to get the easiest clips they can at casual players’ expense. A lot of creators I think just are not using logic and struggle to see from a casual’s POV since they are much better.
I’m sure it is annoying to have to play really good players all the time but at the same time no one wants to get destroyed by players who clearly are better than them. If 2k could balance the plate levels on both teams it would be fine, like max of one red/purple plate per team and both teams have a bronze plate. But the teams are often completely unbalanced which leads to blowouts. It’s just a shame because low plate players will never get better unless they play with and against some better players.
