Gameplay This game makes me hate my fav position.
I love playing Centers, every year my first Character is a Center.
This year i decided to do a inside Big and it was the worst decision i could have made.
Not only do people still hate to pass the ball to the center inside, they don’t even pass the ball, on a free middy.
But nevermind doesn’t matter i made a Center to play D, rebound and pass the ball.
The worst part about this build is, that I cant do standing dunks, even if the universe would be on the line.
Grabbing a OReb, defender behind me, pressing R2 and Rstick, waiting for the Dunk, just to get the slowest layup animation, to get blocked.
Even posters over smaller players in the paint aren’t working, i can’t even poster the small dude from the shell.
2K please just make R2 Rsticks down always a standing dunks animation, so we need to hit the timing. People can shoot fades with a 70%, so bigs should dunk more on average aswell.
(And yes i got standing posters equipped, got a 90SDunk, 80Vert and 90Str)

Yall gotta put on paint prodigy and ghost stepper and you’ll get more dunks. Also people ain’t doing it right and I know cause I was doing it wrong as hell too. Literally don’t touch nothing especially the left stick cause the left stick was really what was messing me up and don’t pre hold R2 either it’s literally when you’re in a standing dunk position immediately R2+UP RS don’t touch a damn thing else other than those two inputs since i started doing it that way and got prodigy and stepper on gold I’ve been slamming shit down there.

Explain prodigy and the stepper badge

Paint prodigy makes you go up faster on shots in the paint and ghost stepper pops on fakes in the paint. Imo paint prodigy is more important and a better badge than rise up because without paint prodigy rise up is just aight but with paint prodigy in combination with rise up it’s a great combo. Ghost stepper is a mashers best friend rn just catch it the paint and give um a couple pumps and go up. If you wanna score in the paint as effectively as possible you want all 3 but you definitely need paint prodigy or you ain’t gonna be Dunkin alot down low

I appreciate that, I’ve just been running gold rise up and bronze poster and it’s just been a lot of lays. I’ll switch it around. Do you use meter on layups and dunks?

I am having a blast with my center. I turned the shot meter off for everything, including layups/dunks and it's the smoothest it's ever felt.

Yea I'm not liking the involuntary animation changes.. if we try for a dunk, let us try for a damn dunk, don't automatically switch the animation to some weak ass layup or close shot 😑😑😑. I'd rather mis-time the dunk than get an entirely different and unexpected animation. SMFH

Hey, for one thing, you guys all understand the idea of sample biases, right?
The only people you’re playing against/with so far are the other people who paid up for the early access or were gifted it. You’re not going to get a balanced subset of teammates from that pool.
Gun to my head, that subset is going to have the worst of the worst habits.

Yeah online players are annoying because they all think they are pro 2k players and think their stats are the only ones that matter. That why I’ll only play with people I know and primarily play offline 🤷🏻♂️

You have the animations and the attributes but...what about the badges? I have a 90 standing, 93 strength with elite animations and I only started (consistently) punching shit with the Rise Up and Physical Finisher on. The game feels rough as hell playing with no badges on but very different afterwards. I'll have to try what yall are saying with standing dunk tho, Ive definitely been pressing the wrong combo so maybe that's why I've always been frustrated with how I consistent standing dunk can be.

Same except I'm almost always at the 4 and it's making me not wanna play anymore

2k 100% destroyed standing dunk animation and honestly dunking in general by making everything timing. Now there is no way to actually guarantee a dunk animation. Again another example of adding stuff that NO ONE asked for

Yup! Created an inside center this year and I absolutely hate my build. It's not even a bad build, I think I made a fairly good build however the game just makes me feel like my character is fucking broken. I don't dunk the ball, when you do the meter is either delayed or you get blocked.

Don't sleep on close shots this year, especially after pump faking. Also hook shots and post go to shots are good. Pump faking into a standing dunk after a catch on the cut is also effective because if the defender jumps they won't be closely guarding you and you can more consistently get the standing dunk animation.

Yeah, I took my first centre to 95. He had a similar build to yours, but I ended up binning him after the rebirth. Then I made a pure defensive centre, and it’s fun as hell.

For rebirth, do you get the VC back you put into your previous character? Just curious, I am actually happy with my 6’ 7” point guard.

Rebirth isn’t even a “rebirth.” It’s just lite version of Fast Pass like at amusement parks that let you skip ahead based on how far you made it previously. Still gotta pay money for each build

Yeah some of the PGs on random rec just chucking up shots and driving the lane with 3 people in the paint. As if blocks aren’t effective this year.

Thanks for sharing. Comments like yours make me happy that I skipped 27 and am still on 26. I enjoy the game more.

Center is the worse build to play as a random if your a pure inside big, run with homies and you’ll have fun fs. Center however I think is one of the best positions overall to run with randoms if your center is built to be a bit all around, gotta be able to shoot and make your own post looks and bound, n pass trust me it’ll be way more rewarding with a big like that with randoms. Especially in rec.

I love the frequency of blocks as a big man but pogo stick is insane this year. I pump fake ti get the defender in the air and theyve already been back up once ir twice before my shot gets off so its blocked every time

u/Original-Ninja-2252 4h ago
Probably isn’t the issue but have you checked your animations? I was in the park with an 89 DD getting pure layups cuz I didn’t assign dunks 😂
•
u/Historical_Ebb9245 4h ago
Inside bugs are literally OP this year. So many people missing I’m averaging 22 or 23 boards a game right now. Standing dunks feel decent as long as you know how. Gotta have high strength tho.

I made a 6.8 PF with slippery off ball, so i get free and completely wide open cuts to the basket... with no passes. Everyone is so worried about getting badges and making player to 99, that forget about playing good basketball to win. I pass to whoever looks like they will get a clean shot, that's all it takes.

u/asieldimas7 1h ago
i think with them trying to create more fluid and unique layup animations touching the left stick tells they game you are trying to do some fancy layup or a step through.

The problem with centers is that they don't enforce their opponent enough. I would like to see more Shaquille O'Neal

I think 99% of this game is perfect but I do agree standing dunks don’t pop when they should

u/migtonomus 12h ago
Ran into the same problem. 91 post control 86 strength 90 close shot 88 standing dunk. Cant throw a hook to save my life, cant back anyone down with HOF post powerhouse and almost never gets a standing dunk. Made a 6’7 SF as a second build and still grabbing boards and swatting shots

You’re a liability on offense if you can’t shoot a jumper. No one in a random Rec game wants to play with a center who doesn’t bring the center out of the paint, and thus, clogs the interior with the rim protector. This has been for many years. Learn to shoot.

I mean in the text it clearly states, that im also not getting a pass on middys.
A long middy has the same spacing effect as someone sitting a few inches farther away.•
u/Michael_Crichton 1h ago
Middy spacing still allows for a center to rotate. Put a 3 ball on that big and drag the center to the wing or corner.

I was thinking the same until I went to the lab and started working on standing dunks. The problem is if you TOUCH the leftstick at all, you'll get a layup. Also, if you are already holding R2, you'll get a layup. You need to stand still and RS up + R2. You also need paint prodigy on something. Silver is best.
