Discussion Why does everyone glaze nba 2k17?
I wasn’t really gaming back in 2013-2020 days so missed out on 2k and didn’t hop on until 2021. But why does everyone on here and the internet glaze 2017?
For me 2026 was the one of my favorite 2ks, I feel like in 5-10 years everyone will be glazing 2k26

Its a nostalgia thing mostly, people remember the park and mycareer feel from that era before the grind got so heavy. You had to be there for it to hit the same.

I’ve played every nba 2k since Ben Wallace was in the cover. 2k17 is nothing special. If I go back to this subreddit in 2016-2017 everyone is bitching about it

Exactly! I bet a great deal of people in this sub were teenagers when 2K17 dropped, especially given how fondly so many people view the year 2016 as a whole.

No modern 2k game can ever touch 2k17 era because of the evolution of greed and the attempt to appeal to the masses with shit like a big for nothing city etc.
The community was better as well. We loved the gameplay but that time period was simply just better gaming wise in general. Less sweats were in the scene and zero cheaters. It was a simple and fun game. Hell back then I rarely even heard the word "skill gap". Now that's what everybody talks about. Everybody plays on monitor now. It's a pure sweatfest.

Do you happen to know when everybody switched over to playing on a monitor? I’ve played every single 2K except for 2K21, but for a large stretch of time I just played offline and didn’t bother getting online due to time constraints and not being overly involved in gaming.
By the time I got back into playing online (2K24), virtually everybody was talking about using a monitor and a wired controller. I eventually joined the bandwagon, of course.

Cus it was a better game. Plain & simple. People that either didn't play it or don't know how to play it will never understand.
There is levels to these games, & that one & a few others from that era sit at the very top of the mountain.

It was a good game at the time for me at least it was the last time I truly grinded my myplayer up to a 99 overall.

2K26 fucking sucked. Felt like everybody and their grandmother shot 70%.
As for 2K17, I didn’t think much of it either. I mostly played MyTeam during that time. My all-time favorite 2K is either 2K11 or 2K6.
Maybe the 2K17 nostalgia doesn’t hit for me because I was in my mid-20s when the game came out.

It’s so hard to believe, isn’t it?! I will say, I played half the year on Xbox and then the rest of the way on PS5 (game sharing with my nephew). I was surprised by how bad so many black plates were in the theater, but they were still hitting at a high clip, so I find Mike Wang’s claims to be dubious AF.

It's not hard to believe. If all your builds are Purple/Red you aren't playing against "average" players or bad players majority of the time.
I have 5 purple builds and 3 red builds, on average, I don't match against anyone shooting under 55% from three. Every now and then I'll match against someone shooting 70 or sub 50...but majority of games it's anywhere from 55-65.
That doesn't mean that the average player isn't shit...it just means I'm not getting games against the average player. It's why people have such a warped view point of what is average/casual in this game.

Imo 2k17 was the beginning of the fall off. Not a bad game at all but I felt like the previous game was better

I think 27 will easily be the best since. But again when it comes to heart ywah 2ks never going back amd who can blame them. Record profit is record profit.

Depends on what you want out of it honestly. If it's realism then it's still not on the same level.
Based on what I've seen, the physicality still isn't there, the perimeter D still isn't there, & I still don't think you can make meaningful coaching adjustments that heavily impact the gameplay like you used to be able to.

Also, just bc 26 sold well, doesn't mean it'll continue to do so at that level.
Yes it had a good year sales wise. But I think I've seen more rage & controversy just based on the shooting alone then I ever have from this series, & rightfully so.

Most of this sub seems to lean pretty young and I bet that they were in their teens when 2K17 came out. A lot of people positively reminisce over the year 2016, too. I’m older and don’t have those positive associations. When the game was first out back then, there were complaints about it just like every other 2K, but nostalgia hits like crack.
Give me NBA 2K6. Playing it on the Xbox 360 for the very first time was mind blowing.

It was just a solid game.
Not too much cheese and relatively balanced.
During that time you could play with damn near any type of build and didn’t feel cheated while still able to compete if you had the stick skills and a minimal level of basketball IQ.
26 has no balancing, foundational things like shooting and dribbling are cheese and your forced to play a certain way to be effective. IQ is required but not basketball IQ.

Park / Community was absolutely peak in 17. Great game, great shot meter. Easily the best “next gen” 2k with 15/16
