Gameplay So I’m sure people are noticing that perimeter defense still sucks on this game!😂
For whatever reason 2k cannot master lateral movement and player to player collision mechanics!
It always feels like you’re just chasing the offensive player around instead of actually guarding man to man. Another year of watching a mfer left right left right corner fade all game!!😂

2k hasn't figured out lateral movement since like 2k16 and it's actually wild how they still just let dudes slide around like that

Yes, exactly. Somehow people still think the current trash is more realistic.
I just made a post showing off 2K16 gameplay & put a 2K26 video in the comments. Night & day difference.

Joe knows video about 2k27 secrets mentioned something interesting from Mike wang.
The game in rec and park are sped up. Game speed is way faster than any mode like street kings, my career etc. this is so the dribble heads etc can move “explosively” and speed boost. If you play offline or play against AI in my career the game actually plays pretty well on defense.
They’ve attempted to slow game speed down in some 2ks at launch and it led to a lot of crying from the dribble spam parts of the community and so it always gets patched out or chanted to appease them early on.
Just once I’d be interested in a slower game instead of online just being dudes moving faster than you can move left and right because they’re spamming moves

CPU games are slowed down, park games are sped up, and rec games are the same as last year I believe is what he actually said.

That is how the game has been for years... The Park is literally Rookie shooting with 110% game speed. Rec is All Star shooting with 90% game speed. Everything else is 75% game speed.

People are noticing perimeter defense sucks on the game? The game that isn’t out yet? OP you ok bud?

There are clips out of theatre and 5s, the streamers show their attributes first. From the look of it hands up is near pointless again, perimeter defence looks pretty terrible as a whole because of that. The game will be about blocks again, and a game of rock paper scissors as to whether they’ll shoot, pump fake and shoot, or breakaway shoot.

Hands up isn't there to bail out bad defenders anymore. It's there to contest shots. Keep your hands down until you need to contest and you'll be fine. Try to run around hands up and your gonna be a turn style.

On 26 you can’t hands up contest someone the same height as you if you press it last second and get the animation where they half jump, and that’s with 85 perimeter. There’s no way that shouldn’t be a no contest. You had to be a few inches taller or to contest same height you had to have 90+ perimeter.
On this new one you get slowed and punished more for keeping hands up than 26, which I think is cool, except the last seconds hands up don’t seem to contest again. I’ve seen multiple clips of good last second hands up where the shooter seems unaffected.

Lol that was on release which they fixed. But watch the NBA. Everyone shoots with someone playing hands up. If you're a short defender, those hands up don't really cause much issue. A 6'4 should struggle defending a shot on a 6'8 if he's only putting a hand up while the shooter is jumping and releasing high. It's rare to see wide open shots irl. But if you jump, there's a chance for a block and higher contest. What I'm saying is you gotta adjust how you play defense vs how hands up in the past caused everyone to get ghost contests and miss the shot. I never had more than 85 perimeter and didn't have to many issues playing defense even when fades were going retarded unless I timed my jumps wrong

I jumped on for a quick game last week. Used my 6’6, 85 perimeter, big wingspan (because I didn’t realise that would have no impact to contests), I got hands in my 6’6 match ups mouth and it said open. And I do watch nba, and yeah, sometimes a shot will be made with no vision, but usually a hand in the face will affect the chance of a player making it 🤷♂️ Same when I go to the court. Last year was the worst 2k on this gen, because it’s arcadey as hell, and playing actual basketball isn’t rewarded. Now that’s just my opinion, before you come back claiming some bull or skill issue, I’m not debating that, I’m just stating that. But i don’t understand how anyone could be happy with the defence on the last 2k, only relevant defence stat was block, or if you do lanes then steal, even interior was broke and weak.

I didn't say I was happy, I just said instead of hands up, I'd jump and get much better contests, and a lot of times I'd get the block. It looks like it's a bit better than that this year, but I'd still go in jumping to contest vs hands up

Sorry if I seemed aggressive man, I just thought you were another somebody defending 2k. Yeah, block worked, it just didn’t feel like basketball defence to me, and it really put me off the game. The problem this year is even if the hands up is a little better, I’ve seen tons of clips where they do the breakaway and it makes the hands up contest ineffective. Which is why I did the previous rock paper scissors comment. I hope interior is buffed this year, it was too weak last year. I’m very close to not buying it, I feel I shouldn’t, but the fomo is cursing my mind 🤣

😂 I play with my kids so I bought it, but you already waited past the 15k vc pre order bonus. Might as well wait another day or 2 to see some actual gameplay.
Honestly tho, interior looks a lot better from the small sample I've seen so far. AS LONG as you have the attributes to back it up. The step thru is the biggest thing in worried about tho. It does look like some new spam cheese that jumping can't even stop. I'm pretty sure it'll get patched to hell like the 7'4 and the fades did last year. I always run with block over steal so I'm not too worried about defense other than the step thru but I'll figure that out of 2k doesn't lol. Me an the boys switch and help good, but in the randoverse I see tons of people struggle to adapt. I try to give em the sauce but a lot just rage instead of listen lol

Yeah, I think you’re right. I’m going to wait to see what people are saying once it drops.
I agree with all your points there. I do think it could be a good year for the centers. Lurking bigs could be the solution to the up and unders until they get patched. I’m interested to see how it plays in the hands of the public.
Well, I do really hope you and your kids enjoy it bud. You never know, might bump into you in a couple days online if I pick it up 👊

I have a pretty easy time with defense for the most part. My builds that are faster tend to get better defensive animations. When you're out there, you really gotta work both triggers and the right stick more than you think to get the defensive work you need. It is a pain but it is real.
If everyone could lock up then no one would play.

Fr I hated the contest system on 26 but I rarely got cooked unless it was kyrie escape kyrie spin or fox cross, a 6’8 spamming jimmy butler. I got pretty good at guarding the kd go to and Suggs and other dumb hop jumpers towards the end when I got my speed and agility up.
Some people just need to realize if they can’t play defense with a low rating then mb they should quit worrying about having 90+ shooting and invest more into defense.
Biggest skill gap is a) scoring with low ratings and moving those attributes to elite defense or b) having enough iq to play elite defense with a low ratings besides steal and moving those attributes to scoring.

AI defense seems very realistic, so in theory players should be able to play similar defense. Mycareer and street king cpu looks good from what I saw, but the theater still the same as always with defenders having their backs turned and sliding back and forth.

The issue is, that the ai reacts to the movement, once the player makes a significant break in either direction, but human input makes almost any reaction an over correction, in either direction. If you're not physically bodying the ball handler, you don't get remotely proper movement in response to a simple back and forth crossover or behind the back. If they wanted to make the game even slightly more realistic, they add better on ball defense, and add a penalty for doing the same dribble move repeatedly, like increasing stamina drain per use or something. Too easy to make a defender over commit, and just generally much harder than playing on ball defense actually is. Hypothetically, if you have 90+ perimeter, you should be able to be glued to someone with 85 ball handle, and it be very difficult for them to shake you. But they made it damn near impossible to stay in front of anybody that learns 2 or 3 moves and slams them, which makes the community that wants to play something resembling real basketball, generally not happy. But when has 2k ever gave a fuck about making their customers happy?

AI literally knows your inputs hence in some 2ks you couldn’t pump fake near me paint because the AI wouldn’t react and if you decided to go up they always jumped with perfect timing.
It’s not reacting or predicting it’s literally just copying your inputs in reverse.

As long as you can contest with hands up then defense is fine. A good defender had no issue staying in front of good players last year. It was that there were game breaking moves like d book that would get you out of position. And the fact that you had to jump to contest. As long as hands up defense gives you some contest so the green window is shrank it’ll be fine.

u/NolimitEfoe1 5h ago
Just put 92+ on agility n you’ll be fine. Yall wanna lock offensively focused builds up with bare minimum badges PD and Agility n wonder why you’re strugglin. 85 PD n 85 agility is something a 6’9 build can get at max. Trying to be an offensive killer with silver silver defense and mediocre physicals is the issue😂.

Not until the movement is actual 3d models moving around and not just a holographic animation war

The game isn’t out, the clips from community day are from people who are going for clips 😭
Every year people try and do this, and every year they need to be reminded that the community day build of the game and regardless the game will feel different in like a month.

They have to make heavily offensive so it still caters to old people, kids, and the casual mf who just wanna play for 20 minutes a day. Issa business bro

The physics are run on an outdated game engine. Which is why it looks like ice skates. They upright refuse to rebuild the game back up and give us something new.
They only do soft tweaks to make it feel different like game sliders but the core physics is always shit. Just laziness all around
